The leather and microfiber-covered headband along with a smooth curve design and solid aluminium yoke ensure all-around wearing comfort. The perforated microfiber earpads used in this headphone add to the comfort and the open sound of the Focal Clear Mg. Additionally, the honeycomb design aids the open aural sound leading to a natural listening experience. Designed after four years of meticulous research and development, Focal engineers came up with a magnesium dome for the speaker. This magnesium dome paired with an 'M'-shaped dome enhances the lightness, rigidity and damping of the speaker. It also elevates the precision of audio reproduction. This innovation is focused on promoting dynamics and details of the sound backing the neutral and balanced sound signature. The design of the Focal Clear Mg involves three major elements - solid aluminium, genuine leather, microfibre. The unique blend of the honeycomb design with Chestnut and mixed metals finish makes the Focal Clear Mg timeless and elegant.

This was my one of the first costly headphone purchases. At that time I found it to be quite OK type. Though even then it did not blow my mind or anything like that. After comparing it with other costly headphone like Arya, and IEMs like Thieaudio Monarch Mk II, Audio 64 Trio and u12t, Fiio FD7 etc, I find Focal Clear Mg to be anything but clear! I think there are much better IEMs available for less than half the price! Mids are Highs are still clean but bass is boomy, that makes the whole record sound bad. I have a number of pairs of headphones and these are by far the best.Despite being open backed, they isolate some sounds (like other quiet music) quite well, while letting in conversation and there is certainly no lack of bass. The detail is fantastic, but unlike other headphones with good separation and clarity, they are not overly analytical or jading. These are the all-day headphones for the music lover.I'm not brave enough to wear these outside of the working environment, because they look way cooler than I do.

These headphones are sublime to the ears. I originally went into the Southampton store to try another more expensive headphones but I wasn’t that impressed with them, so I was feeling a bit down after travelling all that way. That was until I saw the Focal Clear MG on the shelf. They were not on my list to try but I thought what the hell, seeing as I’m here. Wow! I’m so glad I did & ordered a pair there & then. They sound great straight off the bat and they haven’t even been bedded in yet. Next on my shopping list is the Mojo 2 to accompany my new Focal’s.

I was lucky enough to purchase a set of Clear MG's recently and am still amazed at just how good they are, Sure they are expensive but if you are used to listening to a good hifi then your ears will thank you for these,.They can be used without an amp and still sound pretty good but plugged into a really good headphone amp they are simply astonishing. Using focals Arche amp with them and the pairing is nothing short of breathtaking bringing out details you've probably never heard before. I do however often simply plug them into my iPad in bed at night and the sound is still good enough to listen to. I have owned high end hifi for years and the only time I've heard better headphones was at a show demonstrating the Orpheous headphones at a wallet breaking 30k. Are Focals own Utopia headphones better well yes but then they are also over 4k and these are about 90% there. You may even be able to keep your kidneys and still own them, If you are in the market for a really good headphone these should definitely be on your list to audition.
I left a review on the Clear's a few weeks back. I had concluded my review with "Only way I get would rid of my Clears is....if I get the Clear MG's"Well I hate to say it but I ended up going that route. Justin (thank you!) at Headamp was able to get me in the first batch of MG's so I absolutely had to swap them for the MG's.What they say is correct, the MG's are slightly bit warmer than the Clears but that also allows me to listen to it for longer sessions. At times, after a few hours of listening, the highs of the (original) Clears sometimes could get slightly exhausting. The new MG's have gotten rid of that flaw. The new MG's have gotten rid of that flaw. This could be a pro and con to some as I know having a "warmer" flavor is an aquired taste. The measurements between the Original and MG are almost 99% identical but it's hard to really describe when I say the first thing you notice is that the sound feels fuller/denser.All in all, I have no regret in upgrading to the MG's. I wish they would get rid of the microfiber headband as it's prone to wear but I can't lie, the overall design language of the Clear's in general is absolutely exquisite.Compared to the Ananda's, the Clear's still don't have the same amount of depth and soundstage but in return, you're trading those for a more intimate CLEAR (I know, such an overused pun) and flatter FR. At the end of the day the MG's are are more evolutionary rather than revolutionary. If I had the originals for many years, I would not be rushing out the door to upgrade. Luckily I was in a situation where I could easily swap them for the MG's for a bit more money so that was a no brainer situation. If you absolutely LOVE the original Clear's sound then you might be prone to disappointment. Go into the purchase like a blank canvas with no expections and that's when you'll truly appreciate the new MG's. For now my itch has been satisfied. I just have to make sure I stay off this website or else my wandering eyes will look to what headphone to buy next.
I wanted headphone I could listen to for long periods of time that was not too harsh, warm and fun to listen to, nothing too analytical. These fit the bill very well.I had a list of headphones I had in mind. I spent time in the shop listening too them and was left in no doubt the Focal MG were the ones for me. I also have to admit I now have five pairs of headphone B&W, Sennheiser's and Beyerdynamic and perhaps talking therapy/counselling may be the way forward. Most enjoyable and money well spent.Guys in the Manchester shop most helpful.
Beautiful looking, feeling, and sounding headphones! I can see why people consider it a little brother to the Utopia. I wouldn't put them in the same league but, similar to the Utopia (2016) every time I put on the Clears I find myself forgetting that I have them on, which reflects on well comfort, enjoyment, and general unobtrusiveness. Maybe the best compliment I can pay the Clears is that when I'm listening to them I don't feel the need to switch the Utopia.Experience buying from headamp was excellent! I'm local so I appreciated getting to meet some of the team when I dropped by to pick them up. Thanks!
I purchased the Focal Clear MG Headphones from Addicted to Audio in Kew. After doing my own research on the Focal Clear MG and reading plenty of reviews online with the headphones in question, I decided to take the next step. With my collection of different music tracks I use for evaluation; I was ready to put the Clear MG's through its paces and give me the final verdict! I went through a few of my music tracks to evaluate each area of performance, and my conclusion was - sublime performance across the board with high accuracy and neutral tonal balance! Now that I have had these for short while my findings are as follows.Sub Bass:The low-end Bass performance is very solid, the lows just seem to have endless depth but is very well defined in this region. The Clear MG's Sub Bass performance has superior weight and impact but is not over done. I find that it certainly can provide well defined Bass that is textured with a tremendous level of authority to give my music tracks the proper rendering in the Bass department.Mid-Bass:I would describe the Mid-Bass performance as being very well layered but extremely neutral within this region. The Mid-Bass is where I tend to be quite critical when evaluating on any audio system. Once I had ran the Clear MG through its paces it was evident that the Mid-Bass had been done right from the get-go! I can only describe the sound in this category as being very neutral and precise, but also giving me such a well-presented sound that was very precise from note to note and never sounding muddy. It has particularly good attack and never bleeds into the Sub Bass as to get lost in the lower regions, with the upper region, it seamlessly transitions to the upper Mid-Bass with such a smooth ascendancy and the sheer composure whilst doing so is something to note.Mid-range:I spent a lot of time evaluating this region because it was just so good to listen to! The Mid-range was phenomenal, I found that it had great detail and portrays the vocal region with extreme precision & accuracy. I never found the Mid-range to sound harsh or overdone, instead what I got was an exceptionally smooth and well-defined sound. I cannot speak highly enough of the exceptional performance in this region, I went through a fair amount of music trying to find a flaw but instead what I got was superb accuracy and stability through the Mid-range.Highs:I found that the top end of the Clear MG's had the correct amount of extension which worked well from the Mid-range to the high end. The sound is very linear and extends into the upper limits of the High range with absolute precision, it never sounds sibilant or fatiguing but rather noticeably clear and extended, the top end is quite easy to listen to and it always sounds spot on.Dynamics:The Focal Clear MG's Dynamic capabilities are very impressive, they can also stop & start on a dime with absolute ease! They are truly that good. They seriously have the WOW factor with whatever you play through them, I am overly impressed with the musicality of the Clear MG’s and the resolve that they have. Even under some good volume (when the mood takes me), they remain very composed and gives me everything they did before – just with extra bite!Sound Stage:Staging ability was particularly good and is realistic. It was not the biggest or widest that I have heard but was still very well defined. It seemed to tie in the proper dimensions for height, width & depth for proper cohesion for a realistic stage. I would describe the Clear MG's as having an intimate sound stage that gives you everything, and with the rest of its abilities makes for a captivating experience every time that I put them on. These are a remarkable set of headphones on all facets of performance - Highly Recommended!
I'll start by saying that I don't write a lot of product reviews simply because audiophiles are a rare breed. For example, the "right" headphone for me might be "just OK" to someone else's ears. After reading review after review and owning dozens of pairs of headphones, I'm resigned to the fact that perception and taste varies a great deal. Nevertheless, after ordering the Clear MG's and spending some time with them, I was compelled to sit down and share a bit.First and foremost, we (as audiophiles), have a variety of choices when it comes to where to "buy" gear. That said, there aren't many retailers that offer a "buyer's experience" that matches the level (or price point) of the gear. Particularly in the online space. Not so with Headamp.com. I have found the products offered though this site to be very carefully curated and after asking some questions via the website chat feature, I could easily see that Justin and is staff at HeadAmp have an intimate knowledge of their bespoke offerings and it really helped guide me to my purchase decision. This is important. In the age of Amazon and big box stores, it's important to recognize businesses that do it right! Businesses that share the passion for music and listening to music. My experience shopping with HeadAmp was first rate because they check all of those boxes. Now onto the Clear MG's. They are crafted and presented to the highest standards. A beautiful set of cans. Comfortable... even over long periods of time with very little "clamping". I'm even able to wear them with my "readers" making it possible to wear them while I work... which can be uncomfortable with some headphones. Everything about the Clear has been carefully considered. From the alloy and leather used in the build, to the quality of the luxury case and it's matching dye lot. But there are plenty of headphones out there that are uniquely designed, well made... and just don't sound very good. So lets set the exceptional craftsmanship aside for a moment.I played a number of albums right out of the gate. First, I pulled up Bobo Stenson's Cantando on my A&K SE180 using the SEM2 DAC. As audiophiles, we often talk about frequency attenuation, and sound stage, and notches here, and roll-offs there. I'm guilty of the same. But music is an emotional experience... or at least it should be. Listening to the acoustic base and the brush work on this track through the Focal Clear MG's just brought a smile to my face. I was immediately hooked by the detail and separation I heard just seconds into the first track. From there, I just spent hours revisiting albums and rediscovering them in a new way through the Clear MG's.I find them to be very transparent, but not without a degree of excitement and panache. That probably means different things to different people. "Transparency" can sometimes be suggestive of a "dull" listening experience. Quite the contrary. If, however, your brand of excitement is driven by an artificial attenuation of the low end, I would look elsewhere. The excitement here comes instead from the pristine separation of the instruments and the detail they present. There is nothing artificial here. From the materials right down the sound signature, they are exceptional.
I picked these up from Addicted to Audio (A2A) in late June and have not looked back - they are thoroughly magnficent. I found the service at A2A to be nothing short of exemplary, they allowed me to come in with my own portable sources and other headphones to cross test against, and I spent literally a good 2-3 hours or so doing comparisons, listening to a variety of tracks and going back and forth between headphones and sources. Perhaps unlikely competitors but my shortlist was down to these, the Beyerdynamic T1 series 3 and the Klipsch HP-3 headphones. All very impressive in their own rights, but for me, the Clear MGs seemed to be a comfortable step ahead.I lack the comprehensive audiophile vernacular to articulate in a manner that does these headphones justice, ... MoreI picked these up from Addicted to Audio (A2A) in late June and have not looked back - they are thoroughly magnficent. All very impressive in their own rights, but for me, the Clear MGs seemed to be a comfortable step ahead.I lack the comprehensive audiophile vernacular to articulate in a manner that does these headphones justice, but to employ banal terminology, they sound so dynamic, energetic, sharp, clear and with a surprisingly open soundstage, and a more solid bass than I was expecting from an open back with 40mm drivers. My taste in music is somewhat broad and eclectic, spanning for example Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative, Gary Numan, to Radiohead, Massive Attack, DJ Shadow, UNKLE, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Boards of Canada, Sting, etc etc and these seem to be able to manage whatever I throw at them with aplomb. With at least lossless FLAC and sometimes high resolution source material (either MQA through Tidal, HD Lossless on Apple Music, or 24-bit FLAC tracks purchased online) there is both a fidelity and energy to the sound that I haven't come across yet elsewhere. It motivated me to upgrade from my Dragonfly Red and Oppo HA2-SE to an iFi IDSD Diablo and the two are working very nicely in unison.Add to this that the build and finish is sublime, these are almost half a kilo and yet so comfortable you can wear them for hours on end, there isn't really anything that comes to mind that I could sensible fault them on. They aren't cheap, but they are less than half the price of the flagship Utopia and do a fantastic job across the board.
