Work collaboratively with two to four players to locate the treasure. View larger. The Legend of the Archeans This game is centered on the legend of the Archean empire, a civilization that possessed the ability to control the Earth's core elements--fire, wind, water, and earth--through four sacred treasures. These treasures stayed hidden from enemies for years on the Forbidden Island, which was designed to sink if intruders ever attempted to capture them. Set the appropriate water level for your gaming skill, and let the adventures begin! Capture the Four Sacred Treasures Before the Island Sinks! Your team of adventurers must work together to keep the Forbidden Island from sinking as you seek the four treasures hidden within. The mission is carried out using different combinations of Flood, Treasure, and Adventurer Cards on the 24 tiles that make up the Forbidden Island. Once you've captured each treasure using the appropriate cards, you must make it to Fools' Landing and escape by helicopter in order to win. If the island sinks before you complete your tasks, the mission ends in defeat. Use Collaborative Play to Succeed Each player is dealt an Adventure Card and given a corresponding pawn before the game starts, designating him or her with a certain set of strengths. This game is designed so that instead of competing with other players, you work to find the treasures and find out how to best use each Adventurer's strengths through collaborative play. This stimulates problem-solving and strategy skills. What's in the Box Water level marker, water meter, 58 playing cards, 24 island tiles, 6 pawns, 4 treasure figurines, rules of play, Gamewright catalog, and comment card.

I absolutely fell in love with this game after playing it at a board game restaurant in Chicago! (I've also bought the other game, Forbidden Desert!) I love introducing this game to different groups of friends to test teamwork, communication, and strategy. It's such a fun time seeing how people think in order to get to the end goal! Would definitely recommend if you're looking for an extremely fun strategy-based game!

are your a fan of the forbidden series of games? if so, then definitely get this one. if you're not familiar with it, then listen up. this game is about 30 min and takes very little time to set up. the story line is a bit lacking, but then again it's meant to be quick and easy. how is the gameplay? well that is where this game shines. cooperative games are always fun, and this one is no exception. you battle your way through sinking landscapes to gather pieces of a treasure. it's easy to teach kids that are familiar with board games already, and it's fun for adults too

A good cooperative game

My 9-year-old has always preferred cooperative games but has outgrown a few we had so I was looking for a replacement. This game was easily for him to understand with my help, and both of us enjoy playing it. There are several levels from which you can start the game (for beginners, regular, experts etc) so you can amp it up as you become better at it. Also, there are several character cards with different skills, and you get a different set each time you play, which adds some variety. I suspect the game strategy might change depending on the number of players, too (we’ve only ever played it with two of us so far).

Fantastic gateway game

Bought a copy of this for both our 7 and 10 year old to play. I had a solo playthrough first to learn the rules before teaching it to them and I've gotta say, it's fantastic!!! Easy to learn, quick to play and the tension really ramps up as the game goes on. In case you don't know, this is a co-op game (playing against the game not each other) that can be played with 1 to 4 players. Yes, thats right, 1 player can play this alone, which is exactly what our boys have been doing once they learned the rules. Just pick two characters and get stuck in. And they've both been loving it.... So much so, I've had to buy a second copy to stop them arguing over it. Really can't recommend this game enough, it is so much fun and the replay value is crazy high. Nuff said

Forbidden Island is a cooperative game that the 2 to 4 players have to work together to capture the four treasures in a sinking island. The players are called the "adventurers" and each of them has unique ability. The role of each player is determined by a random draw of an adventure card out of the six adventurer cards. The island is made up of 24 double-sided tiles: one is the normal side and the other side is "flooded" side. The tiles are placed randomly in a diamond shape (2, 4, 6, 6, 4, 2). Each tile has a matching flood card to form a Flood Deck. For each flood card drawn, flip the matching island tile over its "flooded" side. The players may shore up the flooded island tile to its normal side. Such a great game. Cooperative so you all play against the game and win or lose as a team. This is great for those families who have someone who doesn't lose well! Work together to collect 4 sacred items from the island as the deck of cards gradually cause the island to sink around you making moving difficult. Each character has special abilities so you have to work together, playing yo each characters individual strengths. Lots of replay ability and if you get too Hood, there are ways to ramp up the difficulty. A great introduction to cooperative games and an absolutely brilliant game.

I bought Forbidden Island as add-on game before checking out alongside 7 other games last year, and it simply did not live up to its expectations. Now, that's not saying that the game is bad, it simply wasn't a hit for my gaming groups. The main objective in Forbidden Island is attempting to figure out ways to grab the treasures in the game through unique abilities each player controls before the "Water Rises" and the island sinks. It allows little to no competition given it's a co-operative game, and assuming that one person has mastered and learned the game properly, they can simply play for everyone else and guide them through the entire gameplay. This deviates the entire gaming experience, and makes it less fun. To conclude this review, if you're not that into co-op games, and are perhaps into more competitive games, stick to "elimination", and different light, filler-y, yet fun games for the same price. (Love Letter, Coup, Jaipur, Clue come to mind!)

Another great coop game and a must have in your repertoire for both a quick and simple 2-player or an interesting group game.If you've played it's sequel desert or similar coop games like pandemic you'll love this and get the groove quickly. The roles are simple and varied, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. However, I must say I underestimated how brutal the pace can be in this one. I've never lost in all the pandemic games I've played but this one killed us first time. There are so very many ways to lose and a lot of fire-fighting (well drowning) to be done.Really nice artwork on each tile and your board is always different so replayability is high. Fun, attractive and easily portable!

Love this game! It is packed in a sturdy metal container. The cards feel durable and the artwork is wonderful. My wife and I have played it many times since receiving it a week ago and it is sure to become one of our favorites. It is tough to win, though we modified the rules slightly to make it feel like we can get a partial win by escaping with as many treasures as we can get before the island sinks. We've managed 3 out of 4 treasures so far, but not all 4 - and that is on "novice" level. Frustrating - but still fun!

Our family has really enjoyed this game! It took a while to read all of the rules initially, but it’s pretty straightforward. I know it says it’s for older kids, but my 7&6 year old play it together after learning how. I love that it’s a cooperative game and my kids work together at it…totally changes the dynamics of gaming together.
