Was struggling to get my 16months old Malinois with high prey drive above the 80% recall threshold without using an E-collar.I was skeptical at first but figured a $12 investment was worth the try.Wow - Within 2 days of using the whistle we achieved a 100% recall. My only regret was not to buy a second one - this time with a lanyard.

This is a perfect little whistle to stuff in my upper PFD pocket. I bought a small locking carabiner and water-resistant cording, also purchased at REI, to tie to the whistle and carabiner to the zipper handle of the pocket below it, so it is easily accessible if needed. Comes with standard instructions on the meaning of one, two or 3 whistle sounds. It would be nice if those were laminated. But then the product would probably not be as inexpensive.

I have been using the Fox 40 whistle for 29 years. It is my emergency signaling whistle for Back Country camping, canoeing, mountain biking and hiking. It is also a training/ call whistle for my dogs and cats( yes cats can be whistle trained!). I have tried many other manufacturers whistles especially the ones designed to be blown in water and have found that the Fox 40 is still the most consistent and loudest choice. I have never had a problem blowing it in water as it clears itself quite well. I have 7 whistles scattered throughout my packs and house, all hi vis orange. It is probably the best value emergency gear that you can have.

Thought it was about time that I added whistles to our ski jackets. Even at "big" hills it is easy to be isolated at times. Fox40 is tried and true whistle, works if wet, discrete. Just makes sense to have one accessible.
Maybe it's defective? Does not make a clear whistling sound, have to really use a lot of breath force to get a loud sound out of it, which would not be ideal in an emergency. Again, maybe the one I got is defective, for $5 I wasn't expecting too much.
I was replacing one I've had on my keychain for over 20+ years. The plastic part of the whistle where the split ring was attached wore through after many years of dangling off my keys. This was in no way the products fault. The ONLY reason for the three star rating was it didn't have a bite cushion like my other one had. I keep the whistle on my keys for emergency use and I think the cushion would be important to have over prolonged use. I had ti order the correct one from the FOX 40 web site.
Big fan of the Fox 40 Classic! But, there's that cheap plated keeper ring... I install these whistles on all my backpacks and hydration bladders. As such, the suffer constant sweat moisture, body salt, and such, in addition to standard weather exposure. The plated rings soon turn into rusty crusty messes.The fix is to order stainless steel keeper rings off eBay. But seriously, paying a premium price for a top-tier product shouldn't require extra kit gymnastics.
I wanted a whistle to blow for when I felt like starting a party, this worked great! You just stuck it in your mouth and get to work blowing slow or fast, it gets the job done. I did it at the bank and you could hear it echo off the walls. In the grocery store you could easily hear it from the other side of the building! Perhaps it annoys some, but I’m pretty sure it works very well for the o tended purpose. I’m sure it would carry across a lake no problem
Volume and pressure required to use is great. I found this much better and easier to use than those found built into the buckle of backpacks. Would be nice if it came with a lanyard but at least it comes with a metal ring to attach to one.
The whistles are great, just what I expected and arrived in a very timely manner. All totaled, I ordered 300 whistles for the Guam Football (Soccer) Association. These whistled will be given to youth referees when they pass their "Introductory Referee Course" and New Coaches during their Referee Development Program. Love the different colors!!!
