Fujifilm X-E2 (Kit 18-55Mm) Black

This camera is truly fantastic. It has truly revived my enjoyment in photography. To cut to the issues that a person considering purchasing this camera, I have included a list of the benefits and shortcomings of this camera below. Very good!

I've been shooting with the Fujifilm X-E2 for a while now, and I'm absolutely loving it! The image quality is just superb - the colors are rich and vibrant, and the details are incredibly sharp. Plus, the retro design is so cool, I get compliments on it all the time! It's a bit smaller than a DSLR, which makes it perfect for taking with me everywhere I go. The controls are really easy to use too, even if you're new to photography. Honestly, I can't recommend this camera enough!

Let's start with the negative review in which the author states, as fact, the X-E2 is no good for photographing children on the move. This is an opinion, not a fact. Moreover, some of the classic "action shots" predate digital photography by decades. The famous one by Henri Cartier-Bresson of the man leaping over a puddle was shot with an early Leica film camera which didn't even have a rangefinder much less autofocus! In short, action photography requires considerable skill on the part of the photographer. It is unfair to blame your equipment when it's equally likely it's the person behind the camera who needs to improve. 'Nuff said. More positively the X-E2 is capable of capturing color in a way that is superior to anything I've seen coming out of very, very expensive DSLRs. Granted this is my opinion but I can say I studied hundreds of Fuji X series images before buying my X-e2. I've heard folks describe Fuji color rendition as "painterly," "water colors," or "subtle." I've give you a hypothetical. If in a given scene your typical Nikon/Canon renders the yellows in a great sunset shot into 10 discreet shades, the Fuji X-E2 would differentiate between 50 shades of yellow. It's ability to make very, very, very refined distinctions between tones is jaw dropping. And this capacity carries over into the realm of BW where the results it produces, right out of camera, are nearly indistinguishable from film....really good film. High ISO is becoming a relative term as the technology improves nearly daily. I've been shooting indoors at mainly ISO 1600 and I rarely find the need to reduce the noise in camera or in PP because there is hardly anything to reduce. And that's coming from someone who is decidedly suffering from OCD. :) I will give the critics their due on the battery business. Fuji needs to improve battery life for this gem of a camera. Until then, buy a spare, but be sure it's a Fuji battery. Some of the knock off products are the pits. See Amazon reviews on this.point. In summary, this camera will make you "work" a little but that "work" isn't going to make you sweat unless you perspire easily. Another way to put it is that your X-E2 will inspire you to think about what you are doing. And for those "doesn't do action well" critics, you'll just have to think about your shots in advance. Just like the famous Henri Cartier-Bresson did. Now please, go buy yourself an X-E2 with at least the "kit" 18-55mm lens. It's a sacrilege to call that built-like-a-tank, sharp as a razor lens a "kit lens." To borrow from Mark Twain: Kit lenses are like lightning bugs, the Fuji kit lens is the lightning ! I hope you'll enjoy your X-E2.

A compact mirrorless camera with all of the advantages of interchangeable lenses.

This camera has the X trans II sensor which, in combination with Fujis classic film simulations produces excellent quality JPEGs straight from the camera. For Raw shooters, the built in Raw processor can produce JPEG and TIFF files in camera with little,if any post processing required. The silver retro look is enhanced by solid metal dials for shutter speed and exposure compensation, which combined with Fujis XF and M series lenses with aperture rings, make manual shooting effortless. Fitting the XF 27mm pancake lens turns this into a pocket sized compact, ideal for everyday use. This is a good value second hand camera. Make sure you update the firmware to get all of the performance improvements introduced in Version 4.0 and above.

Perfect camera!

I recently purchased my Fuji X-E2, a mirrorless camera from Fujifilm's X-Series lineup, last April. To be honest, I'm not a very good critique, but from an amateur's perspective I'd say this camera produces quality images. I looked up those produced from the newly released X-Pro2 and Leica M9; trust me, you can barely tell which one costs 6x more than the other. Of course, most of those outcomes could have been manipulated, and if you have processed XE-2's images through Lightroom, they would also come out as nice. XE-2 was fun to experiment with. It's a great camera to start with if you are trying to learn photography, at least before switching to one with more complex adjustments. I've read that the AF is not as fast as other X cameras but I haven't had or tried any other Fujifilm X before, so I can't really tell. I haven't had any problems with it. I think it's just a matter of adjusting with it and getting used to it. Mine came in with an 18-55m XF Zoom Lens, which you can switch between manual and auto-focus--I looked it up and it costs about $380-415--and a hand grip--that plays bet. $150-200-- all in the package! I'd finally say, I got more than what I paid for.

Simply my favorite camera of all time

This is hands down my favorite camera for real life. I have about 6 Film bodies, 5 rangefinder film cameras, a Nikon DX7000, and a sony Rx100 ii for comparison, and the xe2 is the camera I take everywhere. I've already started selling the other stuff. I will always have a DLSR with a 50mm 1.4 and 70-200 2.8 for weddings, sports and wildlife that I make money on, but I do very little of that. This camera shines for working like a pro camera and if you set it up right you are almost never in the menus and just spend your time shooting. It excels at everyday life, street shooting, landscape, and just being the best all around camera of absolute great quality. I shoot landscape with an old voigtlander 15mm and couldn't be happier with the results. As an old film guy, half the time I just leave the xe2 in black and white mode and on jpeg fine and I feel like I'm shooting with a leica but with autofocus and less hassle. If you are a big sports photographer, nothing will ever compete with your DLSR for speed and accuracy of focus. This is a camera for taking the best artistic photos without a lot of weight and size, but that just creates the most beautiful images. It feels and shoots more like a rangefinder than a DSLR, which is why leica guys pick one up and still shoot their leica lenses on it. You can even pickup old russian lenses with a leica mount and get some of the best bokeh you could want. With the 18mm lens on it which is a fairly underrated lens in my opinion it fits in your jacket pocket and you will outshine anything I've ever seen in a point and shoot. Fuji gets high remarks for updating their software by the way and most of the issues of slow focus have been or will be taken care of to an acceptable level. If you don't care about lenses so much then get the X100s for the same fun factor and ease of use. The xe2 is also the funnest camera I've ever shot with. I get to focus on my art, not messing around with menus. It is what it is and what it is is great as long as your not trying to make it compete with a $4000 DSLR, but even when I do compare it with the incomparable it still shines for the reasons mentioned above. You can't loose on any fuji lens, but you will have to pick unless you have an unlimited budget. The 18-55 is an awesome lens, especially for a kit lens, but I never use it. If I want a lens that heavy I would rather it be the 56 1.2 which is good enough to shoot pro weddings. I use mine with the cheap but awesome 18mm almost all the time, and pull out the bigger lenses for stuff I want to sell. The extended handgrip that allows for battery and sd card removal is amazing and changes the entire feel of the camera and I very highly recommend it.

The lens is a modern marvel. It feels as smooth and competent as an old Leica or Zeiss. And you can get lots of serious specialty glass for it. Simply put, this is my my walking-around camera. It has the same mega-pixels as my phone, but it produces pro-quality images from a small package. I used to do this for a living, so I appreciate the combination. Things didn't used to be this easy.

Still an excellent camera for stills.

Compared with the XE1 which I have used for years, the single point AF is very fast and accurate, but I would not recommend this camera for its continuous AF. Manual AF is by wire, so not ideal. You might as well get a cheap legacy lens + dumb adapter if you are going to do Manual (i.e. macros, portraits). With smaller lenses it is small and light enough to fit into a Parka pocket. Be sure you get the updated Fuji firmware. It enhances AF speed and a wide range of functions. You can control ISO, SS, and Aperture as well as use a very useful auto setting. If you want to control all the settings and are confident in your capacity to shoot quickly and follow the action yourself, you do not need all the bells and whistles of the later models. It has the same sensor as the X100S.

X-E2, great even in 2022.

Awesome camera, even in 2022. megapixel count is a bit disappointing, but what really matters is the glass you're using and what the camera itself can output. This camera delivers in terms of color and, while at the moment I'm using vintage lenses, the quality is better than even my canon dslr was getting. For one, I get to focus at infiinite. For two, I was using a crop censor in my canon, which while this camera is also a crop sensor, canon crop sensors crop out even more of the frame than Fuji's would. Standard APS-C is 1.5x crop, while canon is 1.6x crop. There's a lot to be said about the XE series of cameras, but the size is such a nice thing! So small, even compared to my last digital camera! Love this camera!
