This is GREAT! I tried nail clippers and it was just too scary. This was a perfect and cheaper alternative (I paid about $20 on Chewy.com - not the $35 listed here.) If we get the dogs groomed it costs $15 each dog, so we saved money as soon as we trimmed both sets of nails. I trained the dogs by turning this on and putting it near their dog bowls and next to their dog bed until they got used to it. Then we go sloooow and steady with each nail with lots of praise. We also use reusable batteries so we don't waste more money that way. I took off one star because the dusty nails gets stuck in the cap. You can take off the cap if you have thumbs of steel and don't worry about breaking your nails as your hands slam against the trash can. But the alternative is whacking ... MoreThis is GREAT! The grinding wheel stopped working the 3rd time I switched it on. It ran for a total of maybe 5 seconds (literally, not an exaggeration in the slightest), and now only the light comes on. I did not even use it for my dogs nails. I will be promptly returning this piece of garbage.

I was planning on purchasing this product, based on it being apparently approved, advertised, and sold through 1800PetMeds. After reading the reviews, which are very fee and not very positive, I have definitely changed my mind. I will continue searching other products and providers for a similar product for my dog. When I saw this available through 1800PetMeds, I definitely expected much better reviews, and a better product. Disappointed & confused. Based on reviews, I would not purchase or recommend this product to anyone.

Really appreciate the added light when working with my dog's dark nails. The added instructions on how to grind a dog's nails is a thoughtful addition. The lack of operating/maintenance instructions is frustrating. There should be some info to help with the tightening of and replacement of the grinding bands so one doesn't have to figure that out alone.

Loud but works

Works even on my Doberman's big really tough black nails. I used to be afraid to do my dogs nails because only big nail clippers would work but there was always the worry I'd nick just a bit too much off but now I can cut off a safe amount and just steadily smooth/grind down any excess after. If you and your dog are patient enough it also works by itself to grind down the nail without clipping first. I like that it comes with a light to help you see the nail better. The cover does do a decent job catching the nail grindings although personally I remove it for better dexterity so I can relatively easily grind from all sides of his nail and either do it outside or sweep up after. It is loud especially on the highest setting but my dog has been well conditioned to ... MoreWorks even on my Doberman's big really tough black nails. The vibration will be the scariest part for dogs not used to it but I think it's worth the training to keep feet and nails in good condition without having to go to the vet or groomer to get it down as short and as smooth with confidence.

It’s ok but it wasn’t what I really wanted. I had a rechargeable one before that is not available anymore. I was desperate so I used it and can’t return it. Hard to get batteries in the enclosure and doesn’t last long enough to do two bigger dogs. Good in a pinch but I’m still shopping.

Not satisfied

I didn’t know you had to put the animals paw inside a little opening. My dog would never let me do that. I thought it was a regular grinder because the details about it never says you have to insert your animals paw into a little hole on the device. She already doesn’t like it when I do her nail care so I try to give her the best experience I possibly can. When I try to hold her and her paw and try to insert her paw into the insert while it’s making this very loud noise would really scare her. As opposed to it being a regular file and I can just do a little at a time in order not to scare her on top of inserting her nail into something

Perfect for scared dogs!
1 August 2019

I usually don't write reviews, but my dog and I both love this so much I really feel like I have to. My dog Heidi's Nails has gotten pretty long, she was even chewing them off to where they were broken. She was so scared of the vet and the Dremel at the vet, it was hard to even get her in there anymore. Whenever I first seen this, I'll admit I was definitely skeptical, but it's proved itself and more! I can put her in my lap, and she'll actually sit upside down and let me take my time and file her nails on the low setting, which is very quiet. it was quiet enough I was able to file her nails why the baby slept in the other room. I have yet to try it on the second setting while I have her getting used to it. This is the best product, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Too bulky and noisy
25 January 2021

I bought this item for my new pup to get him used to having his nails trimmed. It is really too bulky for my small hand to grip comfortably and also too big for a small puppy/small dog's foot. At first I couldn't even get it to move from the first speed to the second speed but when I was finally able to accomplish that I found the second speed so noisy that neither I nor my dog could tolerate it. It might be suitable for someone with a larger hand and a larger dog who doesn't mind the noise.

What a find...
19 April 2019

I do NOT like clipping the dogs nails, so I had a small rotary nail grinder that took forever and the batteries didn't last long enough to finish the job. After doing some research to find one that COULD do the job, I found the FURminator Nail Grinder. What a find. It not only does the job quickly, It also does the job neatly. The slow speed works really good, but the high speed REALLY gets it done (best to be at least semi experienced with how to trim pets toenails so you don't grind too far. Like I said, it does the job quickly, especially on the high speed). The built in light really helps to see better. No regrets with purchasing this nail grinder.
