G-Shock Premium GMWB5000D-1D Watch
The DW-5000C is the original G-SHOCK model from 1983. The GMW-B5000 Series has inherited its characteristic square design and been given the full metal treatment along with upgraded features including smartphone linking. The watch has been given a full-metal case by using a shock-resistant fine resin cushioning material inserted between the case and the sturdy stainless steel metal bezel. High-density mounting technology also allows the watch to maintain its size. The back of the watch features a solid Screw Lock Back and has been DLC treated for resistance to wear. The metal band has been dimple processed, inheriting the Resin Band design of the original. Visibility too has been enhanced via use of a film solar cell and STN-LCD (liquid crystal). Function-wise, this model comes with Bluetooth communications and can link with a dedicated app to obtain precise time information. The watch is also packed with practical features including a time correction system that uses standard time and frequency signals (Multi-Band 6), a reliable source of power in the form of Tough Solar technology, high-luminance Full Auto LED backlighting, World Time and day of the week display in six languages. This is a G-SHOCK model that stays true to its predecessor while undergoing further refinement through the application of a full-metal design.

If you are looking at G-Shocks then you may or may not already be a fan. I myself own far too many square G-Shocks as I embraced the madness a few years ago. They are a superb everyday watch and the full metal ones just have that little bit of class whilst still remaining true to G-Shocks rugged and tough heritage. As far as this particular watch goes, it’s my 2nd negative display watch and is far superior to the other one I own. It is readable in all kinds of light conditions due to it being an upgraded module from the cheaper all resin G-Shocks. If you are still unsure as to whether or not you should get it, just do it! We’ve all had a terrible year with lockdowns etc so just go ahead and treat yourself to a very unique, beautiful and tough watch. You won’t regret it!

This is my first digital watch purchase since I was a teenager 40 years ago (yes, even people over 50 sometimes still have some of their inner geek left). I was immediately taken in by its looks with the fancy steel case, the inverted display and its toughness, when this model was announced. Bought the one on the rubber strap because of my relatively thin wrists (the metal bracelet has fixed and links that stick a bit out to the side) and the reduced weight, plus I prefer the negative display. In addition, metal bracelets scratch easily.I will not go into the functional details of the watch, there are plenty of reviews out there. So, why only 4 stars instead of 5?- For this price and considering the fact that this is an anniversary model, I would expect Casio to ... MoreThis is my first digital watch purchase since I was a teenager 40 years ago (yes, even people over 50 sometimes still have some of their inner geek left). So, why only 4 stars instead of 5?- For this price and considering the fact that this is an anniversary model, I would expect Casio to use a sapphire crystal (even some of their below 200 dollar watches have one). I am not conviced that a sapphire crystal would shatter easier than a mineral one.- Even though I would still choose the inverted display over the normal one (it just looks better in conjunction with the black bezel part and black strap), I find that the legibility/viewing angle is not great, despite the claim of using a STN display. This is especially true in dimmer light conditions (of course there is always the built-in light).- In the hot/humid climate where I live, the skin under the watch/strap starts sweating rather quickly (not really a fault of the watch, I know). Since the rubber strap is specific to this model, it cannot be swapped for e.g. a perlon or Nato one.- Instead of the bluetooth functionality (which works well, but is IMO rather pointless), why not just make this a super-accurate watch by using a thermocompensated quartz movement? That would be a nice touch to make the anniversary model stand out. Not everyone can receive a radio time signal, and I don't want my watch to update its time by connecting to my phone every night (time synchronization can be turned off, though).

Full metal squares are some of the coolest watches ever made. They combine some of the best features of the casio lines like atomic timekeeping, Bluetooth syncing, solar etc, with a rock solid case that feels like a tank. This particular series also comes with the much beloved STN display which allows for viewing at any angle. I particularly like the look and proportions of the watch. It’s not overly large like many modern watches, and the general look matches the retro-yet-futuristic stylings of the original resin model. All in all, the watch I received was authentic and in pristine condition. For the listed amount, you won’t find a better deal out there. I just bought GMW-B5000TVB titanium virtual armour. The watch are perfect in every detail. It is not a smartwatch but they are so intuitive and full of smart think!! Atomic time keeping, rise your hand to light up, world time, and more… the material is fantastic. I believe the titanium is the best choice for watch with sapphire glass. It makes the watch light and strong than metal. No scratches either. And virtual armour awaaaaw such beautiful piece of art. I believe this the best gshock made!! I definitely recommend to those who love design and quality!!!
The box was not sealed and damaged in many places. The watch was not secured in a plastic packaging and had numerous finger prints all over it which suggests it is used or ex display. In between the bezel and the mineral glass screen there was a build up of dirt and dust which further suggests it had been used or on display. The watch is supposed to come with extra links to make the bracelet larger but these links were already attached to the bracelet which again suggested that this was already changed to suit someones wrist.
I've owned hundreds of watches, from Casios to Omegas. I'm partial to Casio, since that was my very first "real" watch in the 6th grade. It was a digital "Tri-Graph" with a similar aesthetic to the smaller G-Shocks. Over the years I've gravitated away from the gigantic Gs, but the regular small squares with positive displays never appealed to me. When the "full metal" G-Shocks were released a couple of years ago, I was immediately drawn to them. The negative display/steel case/resin strap version was my clear favorite from the beginning. I think it retains more of the traditional G-Shock style than the model with the bracelet, while the negative display and polished/brushed surfaces on the watch head give it a fresh, modern look. I think it retains more of the traditional G-Shock style than the model with the bracelet, while the negative display and polished/brushed surfaces on the watch head give it a fresh, modern look. I also think that this watch is the sweet spot of materials, features, and price. Entry level plastic/resin G-Shocks look and feel cheap- which is ok, because they are cheap. Functions are typically basic. High end G-Shocks look better, of course, but with prices now pushing $3k at the top end, they're not only in a different league, I'm not sure they're playing the same sport. The metal squares offer nicer materials, solar power, atomic time, and Bluetooth connectivity for a couple hundred dollars more than an entry level watch. Buy used, and the gapnarrows considerably. I only paid $150 for mine, and there's not another $150 watch on the planet that I'd rather have on my wrist.
This watch is stunning looking and beautifully well made. The bracelet is a work of art, with subtle contouring of the surfaces and some wonderful light-play as the links articulate with the movement of your wrist. I don't think the IP will hold up to much use and I worry what will happen to my watch as it encounters my desk and other adventures. Biggest problem for me though is the negative display - I just don't find them that legible, even the STN ones. So this is very good, but for the price, it should be perfect.
super, super accurate - no Swiss watch will ever match it. It's beautiful too, I've worn it to restaurants with a shirt and jeans, although you may need something dressier for weddings and when wearing a suit. For that I use a solar watch, but it's not radio controlled. I don't understand why Swiss watchmakers don't manufacture this sort of watch.Having said that, I wear my M5610U to work everyday - I wear suits and actually the black rubber/resin watch looks surprisingly smart.
I've owned similar G-shocks before, but always rubber/plastic. I wanted this as a smarter watch particularly for travel. The ability to get atomic time via radio is great. I can't see the point of the Bluetooth function, and I suspect it will become obsolete in time. The watch is much shinier than you might imagine if you are used to other stainless steel watches. It will probably show scratches pretty mercilessly. It is also quite heavy, but that suggests it is also strong. My one complaint is that the spring bar mechanism that holds the bracelets together is exceptionally fiddly to adjust if you buy this by mail order.
I've owned a classic G-Shock GW-5000 for a few years and have now added to that collection with this amazing metal, big brother, companion. Quality is amazing yet not as bulky as I imagined. I also thought it would be too shiny but there is enough contrast with the polished bits that make it stand out just enough. If you are to own a full metal G-Shock then I would say this is the one. I was putting it off for ages waiting for a matte black one with a positive display but I'm really glad I've gone with the raw stainless steel one here.
