Garmin Fenix 7 Silver Graphite

I searched for this watch everywhere, online and at stores. Finally found it at a brick and mortar location. My goal was to get the Fénix 7x sapphire solar but that was not available so purchased the 7 solar. It is a very nice looking watch with loads of features. The information it provides is more than sufficient and similar to an Apple Watch (own one of these as well). The let down, and probably a reason not to spend the extra cash, is the solar feature. There obviously is no reliable information on how much the device benefits from this type of charging as circumstances vary per user, but it does seem, from several reviews (read and watched), that the charging from the solar source is at best minimal on a very sunny day. The sapphire upgrade is another option that seems unnecessary, again per reviews from different sources, as the screen that the normal watch comes with is good enough. Other than that it is an excellent watch with, what is one of the best features so far, a single battery charge that lasts at least a 7 to 9 days depending on usage. The touch screen is also convenient when you are used to a smart watch like the Apple device, and it makes scrolling easier when searching for options. Right now still excited with the purchase, although it is quite expensive, but would still like to try the 7x for the screen and battery size.

I did my research on this product by watching YouTube videos on the watch and despite some criticism on the dark display of the Sapphire FENIX solar, I find it very good. I can still see the display without “lighting it up” and if needed, if I can illuminate it by touching the watch face. I like having the option of changing the watch display to various analog or digital displays to what suits my fancy. So to start, I changed over from an Apple Watch because the battery on the Apple Watch wouldn’t even last 8 hours towards the end. Then it just died and when I took it in they said it was dead and I could pay full price to have Apple send me a refurb one. So that ended my Apple Watch wearing.I changed over to an instinct solar and liked it but it didn’t have the full screen due to the circle in the corner and it had a plastic back. It would occasionally cause an issue with my wrist so I was able to trade it in and get credit towards a new fenix 7.So now on to the fenix 7. I love the touch screen. The call and text messaging notifications on it are excellent. I have uploaded the maps to it. I left it on wifi overnight to add them. I haven’t used them much yet. There is a ton of functionality that I probably don’t use on it. But it is worth everything I paid for it.The two negatives I have are small. First, it will disconnect and reconnect when it is within a few feet of my phone occasionally and intermittently. This could also be a cause of my phone because it is acting a little different with the recent software upgrades so this negative may not even be the watch’s fault. Second, I wish you could reply to text messages from the Watch. Even if it were canned responses like yes, no, I’ll call you in a minute……or something. That’s not a huge negative and I knew about that before I got it so I knew going in I couldn’t. I still love the watch.If you’re looking at one I’d definitely consider it. Mine has 16 days of battery life from a charge. I’m not sure if the solar would be worth it in the fenix 7. Same with the crystal face, I don’t know if I’d upgrade to that because of the darkness of the display with the crystal face. Either way if you decide on a fenix 7 I think you will be extremely happy. I know I am.
