I bought this watch almost 2 years ago, wanted to share my thoughts on the performance and value. I chose the smaller face due to concerns with possible damage at work, wish I had gotten the mid size face as maps are harder to see on this smaller size. The only other regret is not being able to get the ekg monitor on this model, it does not support this feature. My next watch would probably be the fenix pro version or the epix pro as this new feature seems worthwhile. Everything else about this watch has been a pleasant experience, the music storage in particular as well as the gps accuracy are both beyond expectation. The settings are very well thought out if somewhat overwhelming in number and variety. I would not consider other brands with everything garmin has ... I bought it because I love the looks. I have the forerunner 945 and most of the features are similar. Except the Phoenix is a Watch I could wear to work, and it looks more elegant than the forerunner.I use them to track my runs . And I run marathons. The battery life of the four runners, a little longer, but still the battery life of the Phoenix could be 11 days, so no complaints. The Phoenix doesn’t track sleep, but that’s a feature I could live without. Also, I haven’t figured out and maybe it’s not possible to use any key to hold to unlock the watch. I love being able to use the hold feature on a key to lock the watch, and then to hold any key to unlock, because while, I’m running it’s easier not to think “well which key am I supposed to hold“.With the Phoenix, ... Things I dont like about the Fenix 7s solar sapphire:1. It didnt come with a printed instruction manual.2. If it tracks my temperature, I havent figured that out yet.3. It tries to make fitness fun with incessant virtual badges. Like, everyday I get a new one.4. If I go outside and get 150 lux, my battery percent doesnt go up, doesnt stay stable, but decreases at the same rate as if I didnt take the watch out to charge. I suspect I will read about the charging better later and learn that I need to disable GPS or the compass or something. Right now I just have the watch running as it was when I got it.Things I love about the watch:1. I anticipate loving the maps and GPS but the watch is new to me and I havent had the opportunity to use those features.6. It's a beautiful watch and seems well made.

I bought fenix 7s saphire solar edition last year. I was somewhat disappointed in that it didn't have the EKG feature like the year old apple watch. The wrist based HR monitor works well in day to day activity. However, on the days I run or ride my bike, the heart rate monitor seems to be off by more than 10% which at times puts me in a higher training zones. I now use a Polar arm based HR monitor when I exercise. The altimeter is quirky. At times it shows that I'm below sea level. I calibrate it each time I go out but even then at times it shows different altitudes at the same point. In several occasions, a track workout shows like I'm running up and down hills. This would be an unusual 400m track if had 1m peaks every 10m. Pictures 1 and 2 are workouts on ... MoreI bought fenix 7s saphire solar edition last year. This would be an unusual 400m track if had 1m peaks every 10m. Pictures 1 and 2 are workouts on different days ame track (notice the altitiude are not the same) Just recently, the swim gyro went out and stopped counting laps. Luckily, the watch was 11 months and a couple of days old and under warranty. Garmin is replacing it with a refurbished watch. The refurbished watch still has the same altimeter issue. The 3rd picture is from the refurbished watch on the same track, notice the peaks and valleys and variances as time passes. I've lost faith in Garmin as the go to company for the endurance athlete. Their prime expertise (Altimeter, GPS) doesn't work on these watches.
The watch itself is quite attractive but I was not prepared for it to be as bulky or heavy as it is in person since retail locations only have dummy watches. a slightly smalller, thinner version would make a huge difference. The battery makes a big difference in comfort. After a couple nights, I was forced to buy a third party band to make it comfortable enough to wear, particularly at night. It is disappointing that there are so few band options available that can work with this model. I like the buttons, because they make it difficult to accidentally turn the light on and therefore it is good for situations where it could be distracting, but I also found memorizing what they all do to be more effort than I have energy for right now, so I mostly just use 2 and need ... I bought it not for athletics but to track energy levels in regard to chronic illness. I hope to some day use it for hiking, swimming and travel.I am disappointed that it will only track a single sleep session per day, since I often sleep in shifts or require long naps to recover. It would be nice if this additional sleep, which is often better than what I get at night was included in the sleep metrics.
I bought the Garmin sapphire 7S last year. I was looking for a watch that could last during long distance events (over 15 hours etc).Pros:Stylish, I wear it as an everyday watchBattery life, it definitely lasts longer than any previous GarminEase of use; similar functionality to previous GarminCons; (I read about these before I purchased, but hoped they wouldn’t bother me, they do :-(Dim screen- even when you adjust the brightness, it’s just dullSmall font- again, even when you customize the screens, the overall default text font is very small and not adjustable. A huge disadvantage when you’re w/o your readers on a trail run.swim etc
I have only had this watch for a little over 3 weeks and have been pleasantly impressed. My first smartwatch was a Garmin Instinct 2 which I lost at a point in time & had been quite happy with it. That watch warmed me up to the benefits of owning a smart watch for my weekly exercise & outdoor activities. The cost of fenix 7S initially held me at bay, but that hurdle got crossed & I feel blessed to have one. So far, I have just used the regular smartwatch features for my exercise routine & daily living, and it surely has stood out as an improvement in the slightly larger screen & clearer text for reading. Also, the layout & size of the data fields is better. One shortage both watches have had is in the heart rate monitoring. If one goes from a low heart rate rapidly ... Also, the layout & size of the data fields is better. One shortage both watches have had is in the heart rate monitoring. If one goes from a low heart rate rapidly to a high rate it seems to take 7-10 min for them to catch up & be close. But to get around this I found wearing a chest strap monitor for those activities took care of that shortage, which I have used for years by itself. Looking forward to using it for outdoor activities in the coming months hoping I continue to find it being a big step up from the Instinct 2 in how it tracks & shows my progress, with the display of the data fields and how it interacts with my Mini 2. Only thing it lags behind the Instinct 2 is the battery life but considering what I get for it I would not go back now that I have tasted the upgrade. It almost looks like a dress watch & since I have a smaller wrist size, I was glad for the 7S which fits well. I am hoping the Sapphire glass proves out to be good for scratch resistance since I keep things for a long time. At this time the negatives others have mentioned about the glass/watch have not been an issue for me. At this point I have nothing bad to say regarding my experience of it & am hoping for that to continue.
I’ve been comparison shopping for some time—alternating between purchasing an Apple Watch or staying with Garmin. Since I enjoyed running along with other sports, i.e., cycling and tennis, I decided to purchase a Garmin! Next comparison shopping, which one? My husband enjoys his Instinct, but I have smaller wrists, plus I wanted more running options and tennis! I decided on the Fenix7S! I’m still learning about all of the different features/categories, however, I’m enjoying immediately the running, cycling (indoor and outdoor) and tennis options! Happily, I decided on the dark bronze Titanium w/Shale Gray band—more elegant look, especially for wearing in other than sports occasions!I like the solar option, I’ve used it a few times, especially helpful when I’m not ... Now, the report requires, i.e., resting for 72hrs! As a 67 yr old, I’ve found that my best “fitness” routine is a workout ethic of 5-6 days/week, so “resting” isn’t an option! In other words, I’ve ignored the resting requirement, and I’ve continued with my workout routines! More to follow as I get more data gathered for a better fitness profile!
I ordered a Garmin SOLAR Fenix 7 watch in graphite. Initially I thought they had sent me the wrong color because I ended up getting the silver and black model. Upon looking they sent me the multi sport gps watch. I reached out to customer service but they didn't have any more of the watch in stock. They do now and it hasn't been very long at all since I ordered. I was told I could send it back and wait. The customer service was not great and this was my first time ordering from QVC. I was told even though THEY messed up they wouldn't make it right because they couldn't verify if I in fact got the wrong item. That's pure craziness!! QVC I expected better. If I send it back I have to wait for a refund. It took a week to get here so we are talking weeks just to fix ... MoreI ordered a Garmin SOLAR Fenix 7 watch in graphite. I haven't had this watch for long but it didn't take long to see how much upgraded it is above my older Fenix 5S plus. So many data points and what feels like more accurate readings, esp on my HR and sleep data points. The running metrics are very helpful for me, a perpetual (and aging) beginner, to have an idea where I can make improvements above & beyond what the 5S was able to provide. Very happy with the default settings so far, though some are more than I really need/want but am enjoying getting acquainted with them all. If you're a data nerd, and if you want a straightforward assessment of your health metrics, it's a fantastic watch... and VERY attractive too. FWIW, I'm happy to have selected the lighterweight titanium casing this time - much more comfortable ...
