Still working to figure out the product. I've had at least 3 previous Forerunners and a bunch of other Garmin products for 20+ years. It appears they fixed the charging cord issues with this version, which is nice to see. There's a lot of capabilities that I'm working to figure out. Still, some of the reporting stuff is a pain and not relevant. I did a 5.2 mile run/walk yesterday and the watch told me it was unproductive. Pretty lame notification. I think I figured out how to shut off that. Hopefully, I can figure out how to turn on the stuff I want and turn off some of the lame biostatistics and feedback that are really not useful. My chest heart monitor worked a little, but not very well. The good news is the wrist monitor seems to work great and is accurate. ... MoreStill working to figure out the product. I bought this a few weeks ago as a replacement for a Forerunner 35 that I used for at least 5 years. It is quite an upgrade. I'm still learning my way around it, but here are some of the features that I like so far: GPS seems quite accurate, Garmin pay is handy, morning report is nice, you can choose from a bunch of customizable watch faces, I'm getting a little obsessed with my sleep score. I need to try some additional running features. Here's what I don't like: The color of the watch is integral to some of the face so you can't really change the color by buying a new band. If you do you end up with a two tone watch. That was hugely disappointing. Also, the pulse ox readings shouldn't be counted on. Mine were consistently low to the point that I got concerned and ... MoreI bought this a few weeks ago as a replacement for a Forerunner 35 that I used for at least 5 years. It is quite an upgrade. I got the 255S which is the right size for my 5'4" frame woman's wrist. However, some of the readings are hard to see as I'm getting a little farsighted in my age. I wish it was just a tad larger. Garmin needs to add the Les Mills lineup of classes to the activity options you can select so we can get more accurate readings on those. Overall, I'm enjoying the watch, but for me I'm not sure it was worth the money.

I am 63 and run to improve health, loose weight, and train for my local 5K. The Forerunner 255 has been a game changer for me. I can't stop looking at all the great data on my health, training, and sleep that Garmin Connect provides. It took me a week before I figured out all the features. Sometimes I will accidently hit one of the buttons and have no idea what I am looking at on the watch face. The sharp clear and colorful eye popping graphics shown in the Garmin ad for the watch are misleading. You just don't get that vividness that the ad shows. The backlighting is just ok. Band is very comfortable. The morning weather report is so small I can't see it without reading glasses when I wake up so it is basically worthless to me. You will need your smartphone or desktop to view all the rich data. Just use the watch to gather your data and use the Connect app to view the data. The watch does provide good feedback using vibration, and sound alerts to keep you in your training zones while running. The pace speedometer has a tiny line that is hard to see while running. It needs a bigger arrow to show your pace in\out of zone. Connecting to MyFitnessPal has helped greatly in monitoring my calories in\out and keeping my diet and weight loss plan on track.

This Forerunner 255S music is a replacement for the forerunner 245 that I have had for past 3 yrs. The features included in this watch are a definite upgrade from the 245 within a familiar package. I am 3 days into this watch and i am impressed with the morning notifications, more detailed sleep data and HRV add. I was UNPLEASANTLY surprised to see what online looked like a RED accent on the watch actually was MAGENTA. The watch color shown was black. I would suggest to help clarity this in yiur description by adding the base color as well as the accent color in the description. Lastly, i was extremely upset that the watch band offered was too small to comfortably fit on my wrist. I don’t appreciate having to spend more money after $399.99 on the watch. First experience with Garmin customer service has been wonderful.
I bought this as my 920XT died. I purchased it in 2015 so I certainly made out on it. I upgraded to the 255S for its size. The 920XT was a bit on the big side. From a feature standpoint the 255S is a great upgrade. Smarter, more metrics and abilities. Where it falls short is in the ergonomics or layout. This watch was really designed for left handed folks as the buttons are not properly placed. Even the Up/Down buttons are odd in that they are not the top and bottom buttons (as we would expect and used to). Top for Up and Bottom for Down. Here the middle button is Up. Now, I am used to my 920XT and I am sure that I will acclimate, but the lap button is where the Down button should be. So instead of seeing my Data Layout screens I am adding laps. Now, I am used to my 920XT and I am sure that I will acclimate, but the lap button is where the Down button should be. So instead of seeing my Data Layout screens I am adding laps. And because the Up/Down buttons are on the left side of the watch it is awkward when riding or running to have to reach across the watch to press the Up/Down buttons to see the different data layout screens. Programming is not any easier on this watch as the 920 as the buttons become multi-function and no indication of what they do so I am constantly pressing the wrong button and having to start over. Not sure why they are even using buttons....use the screen and display options (aka touch screen like so many others). And again because the Up/Down buttons are on the right side, its hard to view the screen with your hand over the face when trying to program the watch. However, I am sure that I will get used to it over time and those new to the watch won't have these issues.I was also kinda disappointed that the watch had limited color selection... ie, couldn't order the 255s in black. However, there are countless 3rd party bands on-line to fix the issue. As well as colored shields that protect the bezel and have protected glass as one snap over unit. Very cool.I had no issue adding the watch to Connect and my sensors paired up with no issue. Programming has been a bit daunting try to get the right sequence of buttons pushed, but once programmed that should no longer be an issue. The "smart watch" features work well. But again I wish it was touch screen as to navigate the functions screen you have to press too many buttons to get to the option you want and again your hand gets in the way unless you twist and turn it.The added heart rate and sleep features are worth the inconveniences. The addition of being able to add other forms of exercise such as elliptical, cardio and rowing are very cool. Just ordered another cadence sensor for the elliptical. I am also hoping that the "Climb" feature will helpful as that was one of the things I really wanted with the 920 was to see more info when I was ridding or running up hills. However, haven't seem to been able to get it working. Also helpful is that one can see more Data on the watch then having to load up Connect on phone or PC. It's small, but it's there. All in all, kinda glad the 920XT died and I HAD to upgrade. There is no doubt that the Garmin products are worth their weight in gold.
I came to Garmin after being a long-time Fitbit user. The latest Fitbits seem less focused on health and fitness and more on being 'smart'. I am mostly happy with this model. I actually prefer the buttons to the touch screen - it is more reliable to use for me, between sweating on the summer runs and wearing gloves in the winter. The GPS, HR and altimetry are very good. The UI is well thought out and a pleasure to use. The selection of watch faces is just enough for me - I strongly prefer the analog look and there is one that is very pleasing. The only imperfection is that the sleep tracking is not as accurate as the previous fitbits were, mainly in the area of tracking time when I am awake but laying quietly. The only imperfection is that the sleep tracking is not as accurate as the previous fitbits were, mainly in the area of tracking time when I am awake but laying quietly. It consistently underestimates the awake time by up to an hour. This is puzzling since the sensor suite is the same or better than the old fitbits. I can only guess it is the data analysis algorithms. Fitbit required a subscription to get the accurate analysis. I would be willing to pay for a similar subscription with the Garmin if I could get comparable accuracy. As it is I have bought an Oura ring to get the sleep tracking accuracy. I'm looking forward to when I can give that up and get back to just one tracker!
Upgraded from the 245 recently for the new tech. I like the new features like training load, wake up screen, and HRV. I absolutely love the new color options, and the battery life is a huge improvement over the 245. There are more activity options with the 255 and on-screen instructions for yoga/strength/HIIT workouts. However, there are some things that keep me from giving them more stars. The buttons are very sticky. My lower left button has been sticky since a few weeks into owning the watch, and when I requested a return and got a new watch, the exact same issue cropped up on the new device. And I lost all my historical HRV data when I switched watches, meaning I had to wait another three weeks for that data to process again. And I lost all my historical HRV data when I switched watches, meaning I had to wait another three weeks for that data to process again. Sleep tracking is still pretty bad on this week (kind of a Garmin watch issue in general rather than this watch in particular) so I pretty much ignore the sleep data besides general hours slept. Lastly, I am still having some pretty significant issues with GPS, Livetrack taking forever to load, and activities taking a long time to upload to the Connect app. Not a bad watch by any means, but I was hoping for more from Garmin for a new entry in the Forerunner series, especially at the price it's listed. I think the 245 or 55 may still be better investments at the moment until there are some bug fixes and the button issue is resolved.
I have used my Forerunner 230 for 7 years, and had issues with the belt and module so finally decided in February to upgrade to the 255. It's a bit pricey, and I added the chest strap update as well (one can use this as a wrist based HR, but I'm not a fan or a believer in it's accuracy) to bring the total just north of $500. So I need this to last a long time. The instructions from Garmin aren't always intuitive and I started using it before fully reading the manual (not the wisest move) but I was able to get a few runs in, and some rowing w/o's as well to get comfortable with it. The ability to get advanced running metrics is very helpful, even if it told me I'm not great at Ground Contact Time or staying 50/50 between my left and right feet. The ability to get advanced running metrics is very helpful, even if it told me I'm not great at Ground Contact Time or staying 50/50 between my left and right feet. I also appreciate all the different activity profiles including indoor rowing, indoor bike, weight lifting, skiing, treadmill and many others.Once I read the instruction manual and formulated some questions (which Garmin did a marvelous job of fielding) I felt I was ready to take off my training wheels and use this as my main sports watch. It probably took me 3 weeks from delivery to truly being comfortable with it, but it was worth it.It gives me great insight on my sleeping, stress levels, health status and many other options in the "glances" view. It's worth investing the time to learn what works for you. I've even hit 100 on my morning body battery metric, which was nice. The watch also learns. The first few weeks it thought I was going too hard, and kept asking me to take days off (I rarely do, and balance things between hard/somewhat hard and easy days), until it finally learned and now took my performance analysis from overtraining to productive. That is a very positive development.I'm very glad I purchased this. I still have my 230 as a backup, but now probably won't use it very often, if at all.
As an Android phone user, I thought my only connected watch options were Wear OS products from the likes of Samsung, Fossil, Google and Tag Hauer. Was I mistaken. The Forerunner 255 from Garmin is such a more practical device. It's waterproof to 50 feet. It's light and durable. It has no touchscreen, but it has Gorilla glass. I actually prefer the buttons on the Forerunner. And I don't miss talking into my watch or doing silly things that users try once and then abandon. Garmin watches are for people who want to stay active and/or get fit and stay fit. It counts steps and distances incredibly accurately. It monitors heart rate and respiration. It can start activities with two presses of a button and copy that activity to top fitness apps like Strava. Garmin watches are for people who want to stay active and/or get fit and stay fit. It counts steps and distances incredibly accurately. It monitors heart rate and respiration. It can start activities with two presses of a button and copy that activity to top fitness apps like Strava. And the companion app offers monthly and quarterly challenges for users. Plus it has a long batter life - about a week at full brightness. I regret owning a "smartwatch." But the Garmin 255 has changed my life. It's the only watch I need to wear.
