Although heart rate and readability is good, the watch has absolutely no ability to keep track of laps in a 25 yard pool. I haven't tried open water and assume that would be better. At every turn, either flip or standard push off the wall adds laps, sometimes a whole 50 yards or an extra 25 length. OK, but want better Load data for other sports

I updated from the 245 to the 255 because i am primarily a cross country skier and a rower and was told this version of the Forerunner has the algorithms for these activities. While it does, and it is nice to get certain stats like stroke rating, meters per stroke, etc, I find that the FirstBeats training effect data is not at all accurate. The Exercise Load for rowing and cross country skiing in particular are extremely inaccurate (waaaay too low)and results in a very inaccurate snapshot of my training and fitness level. For example, I can do threshold intervals, and it'll give me a Training Load of 27 vs when I run the intervals with almost the same HR variations, the Training Load will be 227. My Training Status tells me I am in Recovery, my load is too low and I am detraining when in fact I am working very hard and ramping up to race in some events. I appreciate that the 255 has so many built in Running metrics that I also find helpful when I run, but I wish the 255 & Garmin understood that sports besides Running and Cycling also count toward gaining a high level of fitness. As an elite racer, I can recognize when I am training very hard and know the Garmin Training Load #'s do not reflect this, I just find this quite frustrating as it would be so nice to have accurate quantifiable data that could be useful. Hopefully Garmin can do some sort of software update and tend to other athletes' besides runners & bikers needs.

Really Happy

I've had this watch for about a month now and it has more than met expectations. I had been using a Forerunner 45 for about 5 years but its battery was on its last legs. The 255s music is a step up, the battery lasts much longer and charges faster. The 'Training Status' glance that gives an estimate of how long a recovery time I should take as well as the balance status of my training is just one feature that I've found very useful. I also have found that despite the extra features the navigation seems simpler than on the Forerunner 45. I did have trouble finding the Alarm Clock but referring to the full manual that is available on the Garmin site solved this and other things that puzzled me at first. I am not a big user of music while running as I use hearing aids ... MoreI've had this watch for about a month now and it has more than met expectations. I am not a big user of music while running as I use hearing aids but for interest sake the 255s music paired easily to my Phonak Paradise hearing aids. Maybe the quality the sound was not that great - it seemed to lack bass. It could well be a different story with good quality Earbuds and a set of ears that work. I can listen to music at anytime direct into my hearing aids, just the same way I hear phone calls. Also all the audible Garmin training prompts stream directly into my hearing aids. I assume it would be the same for ordinary Earbuds. This is not the top of the line Garmin Sports Watch but it certainly does everything I need.

She is delighted with the size and the functionality of the watch.Having researched for a while my daughter and now I are convinced we chose the right watch. My daughter runs and it tracks her runs in much more detail than her previous smart watch. The size was a major factor in chosing this model as she did not want a big bulky watch. All my children have smart watches and are linked on an app for their exercise. They all agree the garmin watch is now the must have watch as it gives a much more detailed breakdown of exercise. It looks like I have this year's Christmas sorted., three more watches!!They are excellent value when you see all it can do. Upgrade from 45S
10 October 2024

I bought this about a month ago to replace my 45S which had the classic watch band issues (it broke at the attachment point, which I repaired with super glue 2x, but then the opposite side began tearing at the buckle holes, so immanent failure there as well). It is definitely an upgrade. At first glance, the band itself seems more robust; thicker and the attachment points are the traditional bar instead of 2 screws. There are much more options for recording workouts, and it is much better at automatic recording activities. It counts my floors, which the 45 did not. It connects to GPS faster than the 45, and has a longer battery life. However, my ego is a little bruised because it is much more accurate and believable with the estimated fitness age! I am enjoying the added Garmin Coach features, beyond the basic race prep that the 45 offered. The sleep metrics and body battery are also more detailed and offer more suggestions. Overall, very pleased with the upgrade.

You get your bang for your buck

I have had this watch for almost a month now. I used to have an apple watch and once the battery stopped holding a full charge I knew it was time to go. I will start with my dislikes on this watch. 1: the watch is not a touch screen, and while this prevents the watch from automatically starting workouts (which I encountered occasionally with my apple watch), I still find it a bit inconvenient. 2: the watch will not track your V02 max unless you start a run on the watch. I use a few different fitness apps and record my runs on them mostly, so after my fourth run I realized even if I sync my workouts on garmin connect, I don’t get a reading unless I start the run on my watch also. 3: garmin connect does not sync with fitness apps. I have used fitbod for years now, and also recently started using strava instead of MapMyRun. It doesn’t matter if I log weight training or runs on the aforementioned apps, I always have to go into garmin connect and log the workouts individually once complete. Here are the things I like about the watch. 1: the battery life! Once your watch is fully charged, it lasts two weeks (14 days) before needing a recharge. Unlike my apple watch where I would sacrifice sleep tracking to charge the watch overnight, I can wear my forerunner during the day and night. The only time I take it off is when I shower. It also does not take long to charge, I’ve charged it once in the time I’ve had it and it only took a bit over an hour. 2: it tracks heart rate, steps, sleep score, stress, naps, HRV status, V02 max, and more. It also gives you a recap once you wake up of your sleep and previous day’s accomplishments. 3: it’s comfortable to wear, and easy to adjust. It does not bother me while I sleep. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and glad that I switched over to garmin. Yes they are pricey, but you get your money’s worth utilizing all its features!
