Better than Forerunner 35, but less battery life than new

Great cosmetic and functioning shape, but only 4-5 days battery life as a refurb versus 5-7 days advertised for new.Compared to my previous entry-level Forerunner 35, the 45 acquires GPS signal quicker (1-5 seconds versus 15-300 seconds), tracks location better (especially at the start of a run, eg doesn't say I ran a 4-minute-mile in a circle for the first 10 seconds of a run), and provides more insight (eg sleep tracking, stress / body battery). It's not perfect as the sleep tracking fails, ie "unmeasurable", for 30 minutes every night at random times unrelated to waking up or getting up, so it underestimates sleep by 30 minutes. Spoke to a very nice gal, Sierra, who took my information and sent me to another customer service agent, Debbie, who I can only assume offices in the bowels of the Garmin headquarters far below the sunshine. Debbie asks me to send pics of my wrist and the watch to her. I complied... and wouldn't you know it, all this is my fault! The part of the band that I told Debbie looks like a coating had worn off was actually "residue" to her discerning customer service eyes. And as it turns out, I was wearing the watch incorrectly! She so observantly pointed out to me that it was clear I was wearing the watch too tightly as you could see the indentions on my wrist..... having not worn the watch for several days I was surprised to hear this but, she's the professional, yes? After listening to Debbie explain to me how to properly wear and clean the watch as if I were a toddler with an expensive toy, I asked her to forgo the remainder of her well rehearsed lecture and just let me know If this was something she was going to be able to help me with or not. It was then that Debbie told me that despite my complete incompetence she would benevolently send me another watch band, along with another copy of the care instructions that I followed the first time. Of note: I had the feeling Debbie had taken a call like mine before so I asked her "I'm guessing you guys have had this issue before", to which she sardonically replied "yes.". Comforting to now I'm not the only schlemiel out here trying to navigate the intricacies of the modern wristwatch.

Great Fitness Watch for Cycling and more
7 August 2022

The Garmin ForeRunner 45 is an excellent sports watch at an affordable price, compared with other Garmin fitness models. It is a little complicated to access the modes until you download the 56 pages of instructions. I mainly use the watch for cycling to monitor my heart rate and distance. The watch pares nicely with my desk top computer to save all the information I desire. I am still not using all the functions available but will in the near future. I do recommend this watch.

Great fitness watch
19 January 2023

This is a vast improvement from the Forerunner 35. The band is a lot more resistant to breaking. I had to replace the band three times on the 35, and the last break caused me to purchase the 45. I like the body stress, heart rate, and accurate step count. I've only used it for running once, but it does keep accurate stats. I can't figure out the message compatibility, but maybe one day. Battery life is pretty good also, better than the 35. The color screen is also a plus. Menu navigation is pretty simple also. Definitely recommended.

Great for running/walking, awful for swimming
2 July 2022

Got this watch for a great price, primarily for running, and for that purpose it works great. I also appreciate the smaller size. But the user interface is terrible, there are syncing issues, and not enough options for activity types that can be added directly to the watch. One major omission is swimming, which has to be recorded as "Other." It's also terrible at GPS/distance tracking for swimming, even outdoors: stalls repeatedly despite constant movement, and other times pings location way outside the pool. So, good running watch, especially for the price, but not great for much else.

Great little watch for the price!
4 June 2022

Bought this to replace an older Garmin I had til the band broke. Just wanted a simple one to track while I walk/run but has other features I like as well. It shows your total steps for the day as well as heart rate and your sleep pattern at night. There are many more things as well. Great little watch without being too expensive. Loving it so far! You can also change the watch face with several that are loaded onto it, or download other faces of your choosing. At age 72, I don't need something that takes a rocket scientist to figure out. Lol.

Love my Garmin Forerunner 45
27 January 2023

I used to use an apple watch until I fell and smashed it 3 days after getting a new one (before having insured it). The cost of a new Apple watch was prohibitive and so I chose to buy a Garmin. I have never looked back. Gives me all the info I need, very easy to use and (best of all) my battery lasts more than a week (full disclosure, I have removed message, twitter and the rest notifications off the watch). Setting it up on my phone takes literally a couple of minutes - easy peasy. This Garmin is pretty, practical, real value for money and I love it.

I bought this to use as a running watch because it has a clear display and because it offers Vo2 Max data. it's the cheapest of the Garmin watches with this functionality. It is small, light, and easy to use. It offers the same functionality as more expensive watches for half to a ninth of the price of other watches. This watch isn't about having the latest and greatest device. smarter than me -- too complex
18 January 2023

Too complicated to set up and use, and the pedometer on this particular one is way off. Have to download the manual, and after attempting to follow the instructions, I ended up feeling stupid, and after a couple of hours, decided it was not for me. The one time I tried to use it, it did a good job on measuring distance traveled, so the GPS appears to function well. I'm sure their are people out there than may have the ability to properly use the monitor. Even if I had been able to set it up to do what I wanted, the pedometer result would have shot it down. Mine was a refurbished monitor, and it is always possible the last owner also found the pedometer to be off.
