Compared to L'oreal Elvive, this product has more natural smell and light texture. It really smells like a watermelon juice (only a little stronger) and it's vegan too! In the past, I used too many chemical products on my hair resulting it becomes a dry lump of haystack! Took me a while to find a good hair mask that doesn't do more damage to my hair. Hence I can say this product ticks that box. It's light, creamy, easily comes off but still leaves you that silky sensation at the end. I use this product 3 times a week as a hair mask, leave it there for good minute and rinse. You'll be surprised amongst all the Fructis line, this one is the winner!! I have used other granite hair food products so I was keen to give this volumising one a try. This worked great for my thin hair, I mainly used it as a conditioner and treatment while in the shower. It definitely left my hair with more body to it! This product has the typical fructis smell you get with all its products, strong and powerful. But once washed out nice and subtle hints of it in your hair as I only used it at at tips of my hair. I also found that it didn’t sit too heavy in my hair which some similar products can do to my fine hair after a day or two. I didn’t find this product absolutely ground breaking, but I did like it, and would recommend it for anyone that’s looking to try to replenish their hair without spending a fortune! It smells incredible and I really appreciate the value for money and love that it’s vegan, cruelty free and derived from 97% natural ingredients! If you’re looking for a hair mask that leaves your hair feeling nourished this is it! The best part of the product is it’s amazing scent that reminds me eating watermelon candy as a kid, if they sold it as a fragrance I would 100% buy it. The scent doesn’t last as long as I would like, however I love that it’s a multi use product, even after using it as a regular mask I can keep reapplying it throughout the week to rehydrate the ends of my hair. It smells like proper watermelon, not an overly sweet, fake starburst version. It makes washing your hair an absolute treat! I have colour treated, fine and oily-ish hair. I find it really hard to find a mask or conditioner that nourishes my hair but doesn't weigh it down. I have used this as both a mask and a conditioner, and I love it for both purposes! It is a thick cream and doesn't feel super nourishing when you apply it, but the treat comes when you brush and dry your hair! My hair was soft without being silicone soft (if you know, you know), and I also found that my roots didn't get as oily as fast. My ONLY gripe with this, and it's not even really a gripe, is the size of the tub and the fact that it's a tub! It is such good value for money as the tub is huge, however because of this it can be slightly difficult to open the tub, scoop your product out and then hold that product while also awkwardly holding the tub and trying to put the lid back on. It'd definitely be a 5/5 product if this came in a squeezy bottle or pump! Finally, I would 100% say that this rivals masks and conditioners that I've used from much more expensive brands, and I genuinely look forward to using this and repurchasing if and when I finish the tub!
The Garnier Fructis Volumising Watermelon Hair Food comes in a white tub with a green lid which arrived broken in the mail with half of the product outside of the tub. Since the tub's lid was destroyed I decanted the product into an old shampoo bottle with a pump which I find more ideal than the tub for use in the shower. Over the period of the trial I have tried this product in all three ways and I agree that this product is a great conditioner and/or hair mask or a leave in but I do not agree on this product being volumising, it is not that type of product, especially as I only use conditioner type products to the mid lengths to the ends of my hair due to having an oily scalp so I noticed no volumising effect. After use as a conditioner or mask I have found that this hair food helps with keeping my hair soft and healthier than usual without weighing it down. The loss of stars is due to the container not surviving transit and the voluminsing claim which I saw no evidence of in my hair. Made in Germany.

While I’ve trialled this as a stand alone conditioner and leave in conditioner, I’ve mainly used it as a hair mask a couple of times a week. I can’t say though I’ve seen radical changes in my hair since I’ve started using this but maybe this will come with time. I can say my hair seems smoother and softer after use although still lacks the volume it promises. Overall I’m enjoying this product and will continue using at least until my current container is empty to see if it does improve over time. I’ve also gone and purchased the other available Garnier Hair Food Treatments so see if one of those is a better match for my hair. Will this become part of my permanent hair care routine? I’m still undecided but optimistic so if your considering purchasing I would encourage you to give it a go.
