It runs ice cold even in 90 degree weather, helps keep humidity down, and even cools down the hall if the door is left open so it's small yet mighty. I haven't compared utility bills yet, but I'm sure it will be lower since we only run that one at night and a separate one in the great room when in there plus they are much newer than our very old HVAC system. If it's crazy higher or the same I will change my review.Install seemed easy, I did not install it myself but it only took him less than 30 minutes so I don't think it was bad. It's not too loud, quieter than the bigger one in the main part of our house, but it does make sound louder than an air handler. It's nice though, like a white noise machine. It is a turn dial and not digital, it doesn't have the feature to shut off like our other unit but it's perfect for running at night. I've found on other electronics that the analog(turn features) are better/longer lasting than digital like on washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves and radios. I haven't had this window unit that long yet, but it's functionality will probably last longer just like other small appliances do.

It is so easy to install, I did it myself while 7 months pregnant. It’s for a toddlers room and it does it’s job in minutes. 10 is obviously the coolest setting, 1 is the warmest. We keep it at appx a 7/8 during the NJ summer months. It’s easy to clean and maintain and very simple to use. Make sure you do not EVER have anything covering the front of it. Ever. I’d you keep up with cleaning and changing the filters, it’ll last you several years. Couldn’t have chosen a better model and trust me when I say, we looked at over 25 models just for her room. (Oh, and we bought a second for our second child:) )

One plus I give GE is that it does have a drain hole on the unit so you can decide if you want the water to be splashed on the coils for a 2 percent better cooling. Most other units don’t give this option and the water hitting the fan blades will drive you crazy if installed in a bedroom. So far a decent low budget unit.

Great Small Room Air Conditioner
27 June 2022

This is my first window air conditioner purchase and I'm very pleased with it. It cools a room fast, and the various fan speed/temperature controls help you adjust to varying weather patterns. The auto feature keeps your room cool at a constant temperature without having to continuously make manual adjustments. I don't even have to get out of bed to change the speed/mode/temp. - the convenient remote works perfectly. Only minor issue is a lot of condensation forms inside the unit so make sure your unit is angled/tilted back in the window. If it isn't, you will have water leaking from the front and onto your bedroom floor - A LOT of it too (i.e. a pond). The plug may be removed to help decrease so much water accumulating in back of unit. Great little unit
6 August 2022

We purchased this to put in the bedroom so we can regulate our temperature while we sleep without cooling the whole house down. It is a very no frills unit with knobs and no remote, but we don’t really care we just want it to work and work well. It has exceeded our expectations it cools amazingly, we don’t have it set too cold and it could go cooler quite a few settings yet. It cools the room within a few minutes and temperature stays great all night. It isn’t very noisy at all, I think my window fan makes more noise…bu5 I don’t mind a little white noise to sleep. I’d recommend this product. Great price and so far a really great working unit.

I just threw away 4 dead or dying air conditioners
26 July 2021

I've had 5 major back operations, 5 knee, 5 hip, so I can't lift things as I want. I noticed in 4 windows there were 4 window units and not one worked. So I hire a guy to remove them to throw them away. Everyone of them were Frigidaire AC Window units of different BTU's. I have 2 working AC units in my home and they are GE. DO yourself a favor, if my story isn't good enough. I don't know what it will take to convince you. These units that died were not old, they were no more than 2 maybe 3 seasons old.Frigidiare may make some good products but air conditioners are not one of them. And I'm pretty handy at fixing things and these were basically un-repairable unless you spent more than what the unit cost in the first place. They're total junk. And I'm pretty handy at fixing things and these were basically un-repairable unless you spent more than what the unit cost in the first place. They're total junk. These GE, one 12,000 and one 5000 run great. I just got the 5000. But the 12,000 runs 24/7 almost and even has and alarm when the outside fins get dirty. Which is probably the number one killer of window units. The GE will go into what I call Limping mode to save the motor from over heating and it flashes an alarm thats visible and audible ...I went 2 seasons before mine needed to be cleaned. I hosed it out and off and it as good as new..Do yourself a favor if you buy any window unit. Buy a pack of wire brushes. These are perfect for cleaning the indoor fins (where the filter is and they get diry) You simply drag that brush down the fins unitl you've collected all the sneaky dust balls that got past the filter. This way you can maintain a very efficient machine that blows icec cold. Even at the end of July it is almost too much for these two rooms 30x25 range in size. The 5000 cools the 12x12 bedroom no problem and both are very easy to use

More than simple slip in window installation
30 April 2023

Needed a small a/c for a 10x10 room and didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. This unit is small and is fine for what I needed but it did not slip into the window and then one pulls the sides out to seal the thing. It requires one screw a frame on the window frame and set the unit into that plastic frame, and then attach some cheesy plastic sides to it for a seal. It comes with one of those thick black rubber-looking sealing thigamajigs for a seal top or bottom or whatever I guess. I have to hire a guy to install it because for an elderly person it is difficult to hold the unit and the frame and whatnot and, well, you know, when installation is difficult, punt. Hired somebody. Will update this when it is installed and let you know how it cools.

Since 2018--still works!
30 May 2022

I bought this "window shaker" in 2018 when my old central a/c went on the fritz. I put it in the bedroom, turned on all my ceiling fans in the house, and used a box fan to cool the house to avoid the "emergency" repair fee from HVAC companies. Even with a new central a/c installed, I've still had to pull it out of the mothballs a few times due to bad condensers, bad thermostats, suspected leaks and host of other high-dollar issues with a new central a/c system (so much for thousands of dollars paid for that!). It's easy to lift, easy to rig to block out the heat and bugs with a few strategically placed flat pieces of styrofoam saved from shipped items and a 2x4 to put on the sill to support it just in case. I had to use it today and it still works like a charm. It's ... MoreI bought this "window shaker" in 2018 when my old central a/c went on the fritz. I'm tempted to buy another one as a plan c in case this unit decides to conk out at some point.

Works great. Very happy with it.
6 August 2022

Great unit, price was reasonable and cools our bedroom beyond expectations. We bought this to cool our bedroom down more at night. We can leave the rest of the house set higher since we like our room cooler at night. Saves energy and $ on cooling cost. It’s working fabulously. We don’t have it set on the highest cool either. It is reasonably quiet too. It doesn’t come with a remote. I’ve had other units that have a remote but I never used it, and it isn’t that big of a deal for me to walk over to it to adjust the setting or turn it on/off. No wifi or a lot of extra features. It’s a great basic great working unit. I’d recommend buying it.

Works well
23 July 2022

I bought this for a small window in a small bedroom. It fit by using only the wing frame on one side and no wing on the other. I knew I'd need additional weather stripping, and the wide white kind worked well between the windows and along the side. It was not difficult to install. It cools well. On cool mode, the fan runs continuously with the cooling element cycling on and off. It's not noticeable to me while I'm sleeping. If only a fan is wanted, a box fan in a different window draws more air, but the a/c pulls air through the filter.I recommend this air conditioner.
