Great product! Bought this for Christmas and have only used it outside once. Right off the bat i read on the side of the package "remove saw before using axe" and this instantly removed all negative thought towards this product. After taking it out of packaging i noticed that Gerber has changed the product to suit complaints. So now, even though the product is not meant to be used with the saw inside they have added a full rubber cover which keeps the saw nice and secure. I did some light cutting for making a shelter and left the saw in to see how it would work now. I had no problems and the axe cut fine. I have not used the saw but am pleased by the look of it. I recently purchased the gerber gator axe and saw combo and I'm very happy with my purchase. This axe is small enough to fit inside or on the outside of my badlands 2200 pack. The steel is strong and easy to sharpen and holds and edge well. The rubber grip on the handle is great and enhances control of the axe, and prevents slippage. The saw is great and has a vary aggressive tooth pattern and saws well. it's so cool that the saw actually fits inside the handle and at the end ofthe axe is a rubber cap that secures the saw inside. it also come with a durable well built sheath. My only complaint is that the saw handle is vary short and should be a inch or so longer

Love this combination. I carry it on my chainsaw chaps for driving wedges. The hand saw for chainsaw recovery (pinched bar… oops).

I have had this for a few years. Bought it for hunting to take with me to prep stand sites. Great utility, saw works great, axe has performed and the hole at the base of the axe handle allows me to tie para cord to it so I can reach higher branches that are blocking my shooting lanes.
Came nice and sharp, took a second to realize the sheath goes in from above. Saw blade can rattle around a little bit in there but has come in handy on many a camping trek so far!

The handle does actually feel really grippy, it's not falsely advertised. Nice hammer head on back of axe. The pull saw hidden in the handle works a treat and is as good quality as the axe. However, it only got four stars because of the plasticy rubber retaining ring/cup that holds the pullsaw inside the handle - it really could have been designed better, it feels like it's going the to be the first thing that breaks (and easily too). It really needs a better locking mechanism, it lets the axe down imho. Poor design and quality. Belt loop on case ripped with first use. Wood splinters and debris get jammed between the axe head and where it fits into the handle. This, however, was just a minor complaint up until the handle snapped right above the grip, rendering it completely useless. Don't waste your money.
Product is OK but the Crazy Deals structure it totally confusing, borderline rip off. You don't get a card rather a paper receipt that has a number on it. Too easy to lose that paper therefore giving away the "deal".
I pondered spending the money on this guy as I already have a hatchet (that I've never been happy with)With MEC's guarantee, I figured the worst that could happen is I would be making a return. I'm happy to say this axe is staying with me. Out of the box, it seemed plenty sharp - this isn't a pocket knife, and isn't required to cut paper.. It makes short work of 4-5" dia. spruce limbs, and the hand saw is surprisingly handy. I found it useful in cutting off roots of a downed tree. The sheath that comes with the axe is very well made too. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase.
This is the second Gerber product that failed spectacularly. I was splitting some firewood down to smaller pieces at my GFs place and the shaft shattered, not cracked, shattered. This is the second Gerber product that I bought that failed me, the other being the Gerber big rock knife that broke while Batoning. The tip on that broke off and a small piece embedded into my arm, luckily I had a good first aid kit and a small sheep pocket knife to dig the piece or of my arm.Avoid Gerber, it's cheap for a reason
