ghd Max Styler - 2" Wide Plate Flat Iron

I received this flat iron complimentary from Influenster and ghd for testing purposes. I have long (past bra line) hair with fragile ends from years of bleaching. My typical hair texture is a natural beach wave, but I regularly dry and curl it. I don’t love my hair stick straight, but never could master that perfect bend like Jen Aniston’s long hair in Friends. Using this flat iron was the closest I’ve ever gotten. I have almost nothing but praises. I love that it heats up fast and the rounded edges creates the perfect bend-the size is spot on. I straightened my whole head remarkably quickly and my hair was still shiny and wasn’t sprouting a bunch of broken ends throughout. The only issue I had was that it has one temperature setting. I don’t love this because I’m wary of heat damage and always want to use the least amount possible. However, ghd indicates the heat is the perfect amount. I balked at this initially, but after a day outside near the ocean and in Southern California mist, my hair was still straight and minimally frizzy. I was shocked. I didn’t use anti humidity spray or anything after flat ironing…and it lasted. That is atypical for my hair, so I am inclined to think ghd knows what they are talking about regarding the temperature. For my hair anxiety, I would still prefer the option, but it is not a deal breaker.

No longer will I have to wait for straightener to cool down before storing! All in all, this straighter is a great product. This straightener is better for my hair in terms of styling and reducing damage.

It’s unbelievable how fast it is. It has 2” wide ceramic plates and heats up to 365 degrees. There is not a dial for lowering the heat, there is just a power on/off button, this is because it is pre-set to this temperature for safe hair styling, if it’s hotter it could damage and colder temps might not be efficient enough. The cord is 8.8 ft, so it’s great if your plug is not right next to you. All in all--- a straightener I can really get behind. I have purchased other straightener for over $200 in the past, and I wasn't happy with them..However THIS one was an Influenster "sample" aka #GHDVoxBox and I am in love with it! It has been a real workhorse thus far and I have had zero issues with it and hope it stays this way!!!

Average straightener

Bought this a few weeks ago. Delivery is quick. The straightener is average quality. My hair is really curly and thick and it takes about 45mins - 1hr to get it straight. Have to go over strands a few times to get it very straight. I have used the ghd for a long time and find that the original straighteners were much more efficient and effective. Whilst the wide plate is helpful I don't know if this is the best out there anymore. Wish the quality stayed better over the years. Had to get this one because my last one just stopped working with no warning. It was working one moment and just went dead :( Don't know how I feel about this one, no real improvements or innovation. BEST STRAIGHTENER FOR MEDIUM-LONG HAIR EVER!

Amazing straightener! I really LOVE this flat iron! :) I have mid-length straight thick hair (no “wash and go” for me) and it takes me just 10 min to straighten (I just need to go over the same section of hair once!). It is lightweight and super easy to use. It heats up in a few seconds (you can hear a sound when reaches the optimal temperature, which is set, so you don’t need to worry about that) and glides very easily along my hair. Another feature that I really like is that this iron automatically turns off if not used for 30 minutes. I am super happy with this styler because it leaves my hair shiny, soft and beautiful very quickly, and lasts until wash day with no touch-up required. Favorite Straightener to Date!

This styler heats up almost instantaneously, handles larger sections for each pass, and is very lightweight. It also glides very easily along my hair, with no short stops/stutters or pulling of random strands of hair. I have long, medium coarse, wavy hair that requires styling - no “wash and go” for me! I’ve used ghd stylers for the last several years, including several iterations of the 1” classic styler and most recently the 1” platinum; I was really surprised to see how much more smooth and shiny my hair was after having been straightened with this 2” styler. This is definitely my new go-to styler and I’d recommend it to anyone. Even with the 2” plates, I think it’d be a great straightener for all lengths of hair. Great Addition to My Style Kit with a Big Caveat

I love the 2" Max Styler. I've wanted another 2" flat iron for years, but when I finally decided to pull the trigger I found that there are few companies that still make them. I have shoulder length, mixed-race, coarse, wavy hair that takes about 40 minutes to flat iron with my one inch flat iron after washing and drying, so it's not something that I want to be doing everyday. As a result, I've usually worn my hair shorter to cut down on my styling time. However, since the pandemic, I've decided to grow my hair longer. But, although I love my 1-inch, the brand, Solia, no longer exists, (and neither does my 2" Sedu, which I bought for traveling overseas), so those were no longer options. The iron itself is well-made and sturdy. I like the chimes and light, which tells you that it's on and heated up. The grip is comfortable and the plates glide smoothly. The cord is extra long and doesn't easily tangle. I also like the rubber tip that insulates and protects during travel. My only complaint is that I do wish that it had a variable temperature setting and a higher maximum temperature. My 1" Solia, which I bought some 12-13 years ago and is still going strong, gets up to 450 degrees and, frankly, that's the heat that I need to use it at to get a really smooth, glossy finish. The Max Styler only goes up to 365 degrees and I do notice the difference. Although it's enough to get my hair flat, it's not hot enough to get it really smooth and glossy. I still have to finish with my 1", particularly in humid weather, or it appears slightly frizzy, which sort of defeats the purpose of having it, but not completely: the 2" plates allow me to flat iron my hair in 15-20 minutes, which is about half the styling time of the 1". That alone makes it worth it for me personally. But if I'm having problems getting a truly smooth, glossy finish with my mixed-race black and Japanese hair, I am sure that someone else with coarser, thicker hair will not be pleased with their results, so buyer beware--especially if you have black hair.

In love with this appliance

I have 2b/2c medium density fine hair that is naturally frizzy and inconsistent so products and appliances are necessary. I'm thankful I have a full head of hair. I've been straightening for twenty years and this is leagues above any flat iron I've tried including my G2 Chi. Why? The two inch plates cover more ground and your straightening time is cut in half. There is no messing with temperature which frankly I never knew the right number anyway. No burning or singing smell. You only need one pass for super sleek results. The iron glides through hair without pulling or snagging anything. You can get close enough to the roots to smooth without burning your scalp. While you may have to repurchase a cheaper brand iron two, maybe three times; you’ll only need one ghd. For reference, I have long curly and frizzy hair, so I love the larger size.
