Comfortable and fun ride

The bike rides super smooth, changes gears quickly and stops effortlessly. The boys in the Sunshine Coast Giant shop were able to replace the 32T crankset with a 42T crankset and made this bike a beast. I can travel at over 50km on a flat gravel path and still easily climb moderate hills. Perfect for country/ city commuting.

Purchased a Talon 29/2 a few months ago after owning a Klein Mantra I bought new in 1997. I'm into my 60s and wanted a slack geometry 29" bike for high speed stability, while keeping the maximum full purchase price below 4 digits. The Talon 29/2 has a more relaxed geometry than my 26" Klein. The Klein has a 41" wheelbase, as opposed to about a 47" wheelbase on the Talon, so there's a big difference in handling response. I ride the Talon pretty hard and it has held up well. There are lots of volcanic rock gardens where I ride and the rims have remained true after some rock abuse. The hydraulic brakes can easily stop you quickly with one finger. The 29" tires roll over rocks with ease, and have lower rolling resistance and higher momentum than the 26" tires on my ... MorePurchased a Talon 29/2 a few months ago after owning a Klein Mantra I bought new in 1997. The 29" tires roll over rocks with ease, and have lower rolling resistance and higher momentum than the 26" tires on my Klein. When the OEM tires wear out, I will be converting to tubeless tires. The 1x9 gears shift smoothly and are wide ratios enough for most riding conditions, and the clutch derailleur keeps the chain on the sprockets when the trail gets rough. The wide 780mm handlebars give good control over the steering, especially in technical riding conditions and fit my shoulder width well. The front forks at this price point are not expected to be of high performance, and they are marginal at dampening and rigidity, but do help some with big hits using up all of their 100 mm travel. The stock pedals were too small for my size 12EE shoes and not very grippy, so I upgraded to OneUp flat pedals which make for much more confidence in pedal grip and comfort and fit my feet better. All in all, the Giant Talon 2/29 is a great bike for the price and could be worthy as an entry level hardtail race bike at an affordable price point or just a durable off-road bike for local park trails. It would also make for a fun city commuter bike with the low rolling resistance of the 29" tires.

Geared for the trail, decent for the road

I'm short, stocky and in the 250lb+ category. I ride 80% road for now. The trail rides so far have been impressively smooth. Gearing has had me a bit heart broken, but feel I haven't hit that trail that makes it shine. Braking is consistent and predictable. Overall bike feels like a trail contender that only sees roads to cross them.

Great Buy!
4 April 2022

Forced to replace my 26 year old GT Avalanche, after looking around and a little research, I purchased a '21 Talon 2, 27.5 and it has been great! This bike, like my GT was, is a winter ride, November to April in Western New York, and the Talon has been up to the task. Snow almost to the hubs? no problem, bumpy frozen turf? piece of cake. One of the best things about this Bike is the one by nine drivetrain, with the GT the front derailuer would freeze up because of the moisture, snow and slush the back tire dumps on it, not a problem on a bike without a front derailuer! Only real "con" is that the shifting is kind of clunky, not as smooth as the Deore LX unit on my old GT. It's also my first Disc Brake bike, love it! Over all I highly recommend this product, you ... MoreForced to replace my 26 year old GT Avalanche, after looking around and a little research, I purchased a '21 Talon 2, 27.5 and it has been great! Great Hard Tail For Recreational Riders
17 July 2020

This is my first "real" mountain bike, my last one was purchased two years ago at a "big box" store and has since been falling apart (literally). Finding a good bike was hard, but it so happened that a local shop by me got this in and it was just the ticket. It's a great hard tail for my local trails in North Texas. It's smooth shifting and aggressive enough to take on most terrain I ride. I really love how "smooth" it feels on the trail, and recommend this to anyone looking to get into mountain biking without breaking the bank. I've changed out a few components on it (changed the pedals and the handlebar to something more in line with what I want, converted to a tubeless setup), but nothing out of the ordinary. This has definitely made me a fan of Giant bikes, ... MoreThis is my first "real" mountain bike, my last one was purchased two years ago at a "big box" store and has since been falling apart (literally). Great MTB. Excellent road bike as well
2 August 2022

I purchased in store. I found that the talon is a really decent road bike and I tend to only use light trails and it performed quite well. I had to change the seat to a wider seat for comfort, but that is typically what is necessary regardless of maker. I am really happy with this purchase. Construction is sturdy and I suspect it will handle well for the more adventurous trails as well.

Great bike, superb shopping experience
17 June 2022

I just bought this bike today as part of a trade in. I’ll be taking it on its first taste of dirt later today, but I was so excited to write about my buying experience. As always, Mark and the gang at the South Bay shop were total professionals. Mark made sure the trade in process went smoothly as I test rode the Talon 1 in both wheel sizes. I chose the 29er because it seems to roll a bit more smoothly than the 27.5. I chose to go with the Talon 1 because of the air fork and 1x. Entry level parts have come such a long way since I started riding in 1995. At least on my test ride, the suspension fork feels great once the rebound is set, and the shifting and braking were spot on. I really can’t wait to hit the trail on this bike. Thank you, Bicycle Warehouse, for ... MoreI just bought this bike today as part of a trade in. The photos on the web really don’t do it justice.

Great bike, zero fork repairability or info availability
12 January 2023

Bike is great and I would recommend it however, so far there is zero aftermarket parts support for the sxc32-2.Giant refuses to provide technical specifications for the sxc32-2 air fork such as parts lists and fork oil weights/measurements. Meaning you are required to get scalped by a giant retailer with repair costs. This is unfortunate because I would like to support giant more, but until they change their anti-repair policy stance. I cannot support this company.

LOVE MY NEW TALON 2 !!!
10 October 2020

Giant makes great bikes!! I think the Sage color is awesome and it’s a good entry level bike didn’t know it came with a 1X set up with a clutch (very little chain slap). The hydraulic brakes don’t make any noise, no more mechanical brakes screeches!! I will be doing mostly city riding so the rep at the store recommended some road tires (Serfas Drifters) I get less resistance after I stop pedaling so the bike keeps rolling. I stored the Maxxis Ardent wheels that came with the bike so I can put them on when I go ride some trails. I was very happy with my experience at Bicycle Warehouse everyone was very knowledgeable and looking forward to coming back for my free follow up Tune up! No lock out fork
29 November 2022

I like everything about the bike but it does not come with a lock out fork which means it is incredibly hard work going uphill, almost undoable with the 29er wheels. The specs online are silent about pretension or lock out on the forks but describe them a Suntour XCM 30. When you check the Suntour site for this model it shows image with lockout and says all models have lock out. I think Giant are being deceptive by omission on their specs. LBS was unable to help because that is how they get the bike supplied the giant spec is silent on lock out. look out buyers it is the same silence for all talon's1,2,3,4 on the site! you won't know if you're getting lock out or not -even on a Talon 1.
