Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s - Bourbon Burst

Gibson quality has returned with a vengeance! LOVE this guitar. I have owned 2 Gibson SGs in the past that were not great guitars. The 1989 SG ‘62 reissue I bought brand new was plagued with problems from bad pickups to terrible fit and finish. A later 2000s SG Standard had an uncomfortable neck and poor quality electronics and finish issues. There is none of that with this guitar. Gibson is back at the top of their game. I cannot find a flaw or blemish. Everything is as it should be. Beautiful top. Nitro finish! Feels in every way like the classic Les Pauls I have played from the “Golden Era”. It kills through all of ‘em. Super satisfied with my purchase. Next up is a new SG Jr for the P-90 thing!!! Highly recommended.

Well the stork for me was gruff lookin FedEx driver that was delivering my new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s. After it was delivered I placed it gently before me and began to unwrap the newest member of the family. So, you know those movies when you expect to see elation on the face of the actor after they open something up but instead it turns to the face of horror, well, that was me. As I opened up the the lid of the case I saw bits of gold flakes and plastic. It was the volume knob that had been smashed. I then looked at the case and the bottom of the case appeared to be damaged. After pulling picking up the pieces and placing them in a bag i played the LP and it was amazing but had obviously been knocked around too much for me to keep. It was tough though, the low end on this guitar was hypnotizing and the highs were like blissful chimes that rang clean yet without shrillness. The weight is amazing and the thus the sustain is like the Energizer Bunny. Anyway, I called AMS, they offered a replacement but I wouldn't be able to choose the serial number for the replacement, so I would have no idea what it looked like; I want to choose what guitar I am buying. So now I have a prepaid return shipping label in my email and a trip to the "stork" in my future. It's very unfortunate that this guitar was not packaged better because it is an amazing sounding guitar. I am buying another one.

Beautiful guitar with minor issues

This is a beautiful guitar, but for the price, I expected a little more. I went through three Les Paul before settling on this one. The first two were floor models and had cosmetic issues from being handled. I ended up getting this one new, directly from the Gibson factory. Unfortunately, I have high expectations for quality when I purchase something new and that's especially true if it's a guitar well over $2000. The guitar was set up great and played sweet right out of the box. My only complaint is cosmetic and it's not super noticeable. However, there are several areas along the binding of the body that have a small shelf where it appears to be too small or perhaps needed something filled in. Fantastic Les Paul

I've had the guitar for a couple weeks now and it's been the main guitar I've played during that time and it's incredibly hard to put down. The neck is thin but not too thin. It's a good medium profile. This is also one of the lightest Les Pauls I've ever played. The guitar is extremely resonate and loud acoustically. This could just be luck of the draw finding this specific Les Paul, because I've played a few 60's standards and not all of them were like this one. This one was definitely the best one I tried of this model. I have yet to gig with it yet, but I can't wait to. I've tried it in Standard, Eb Standard, Drop D, and Drop C# and it sounded and reacted great in all four tunings with little need for adjustments. It was no difference for Gibson, with their fascination for robot tuners, and other tweaks, aimed at making their classics "better," they strayed from the things that made them great. Well, they're back! I just purchased this guitar and I must say that it is fantastic, right out-of-the-box! It sounds awesome, it plays great, and the finish is outstanding! My only criticisms, and they are pretty minor, is that they have opted for a machine head, far inferior to the original. It functions okay, but it is not a smooth as the original and frankly, feels cheap and the cord doesn't feel like it locks into the jack as securely as in the past. I decided to splurg. I have always dreamed of owning a Gibson Les Paul. After doing a lot of research (and a lot of saving) I bought this model, and it has exceeded all my expectations. I was hesitant about spending this much money for a guitar that I had not played in person. But this particular Gibson Les Paul Standard was a Sweetwater exclusive. Of course, it was out of stock when I ordered. But very soon after placing my order the Sweetwater Sales Engineer Grant actually called me up on the phone (which was unexpected) and I had a great conversation with him. On top of that, Grant would give me regular updates. Just a heads up, Sweetwater will not charge you until the guitar is actually shipped. But when I opened the case when it finally arrived, Sweetwater's 55 point inspection gave me complete peace of mind. This Gibson Les Paul Standard came from the Gibson Factory in Nashville and it even had a indescribable beautiful smell. The way it sounds, once again, has exceeded all my expectations. Now all my high end purchases are going to be with Sweetwater. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

It's an experience of your life

I own Ibanez and Fender guitars (some cost a lot) and I enjoyed playing them. I put a lot of thought about buying a Gibson. It is a particular style of playing and genre. So the price tag was not considered lightly. When I received the pack, the pulling the guitar case up, oh man, was exceptional. The fine details, the shine, the color, the smell of the case and the guitar, the quality... it is in a different universe. And the playing experience, no match. I have zero regrets....If you think about the price is too expensive for a guitar, rehink about it. You pay £2000 for a laptop, and/or the same money for a holiday. And this is a top of line guitar that you can 100% rely on for every gig/recording etc that you do.

Killer Flame top

Overall:I've had 4 other gibsons and this one is the prettiest of them all. The color, how it fades from a dark red, to bright red then amber. The flame is just right on both sides. It has nearly every different kind of flame in certain spots but consistently has horizontal flame from top to bottom. It's a killer top. It's set up well but the action does need to be lowered and some relief put on the neck but overall not bad. The slim 60s neck is very nice. Its not chunky but not thin either, its right in the sweet spot. It sounds amazing, alnico Vs are hotter than a firecracker. Now the cons- It had about a 4 inch surface scratch on the top where your right arm rests when I inspected it after opening the case. Takes your breathe away

This my first Gibson ever I've been playing for ten years and always wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard and now I have one. When I opened up the case it literally took my breath away,I never seen such a beautiful guitar in my life,and when I plugged it into my 25W Orange amp all I can really say is WOW!!! No fret buzz it is set up beautifully, and the action is absolutely buttery,if your thinking of getting a Les Paul Standard don't hesitate you will not be disappointed like to give a big shout out to my sales engineer Matt Suber ext 3964 for making it all possible and I will be stopping at Sweetwater I've been there before and it's first class all the way thank you Sweetwater P.S.
