I would've given it a 4.5 if that were possible because of the BIOS thing, but it's not enough to deduct a whole egg. I'll be sure to edit this if I run into any problems but so far Gigabyte definitely deserves an attaboy. First time Gigabyte board owner and was in the market for a x570 Chipset board and after several reviews referenced this board decided it would be worth a shot. It's a sturdy board construction wise, built in back plate makes installation easy. SATA ports being offset to the bottom of the board means they won't be obscured by a GPU, but the heatsink covered NVMe slot will be. Onboard RGB is subtle, just the Aorus logo on the heatsink, and it will sync with a stock AMD cooler should you choose to use it. Bios flash was easy enough, and while I run my hardware stock clocks/speeds, it seems very tuning friendly. Did not natively recognize my Ballistix 3600 RAM kit, but did so after enabling the suggested XMP profile with no issues since. One of the two M.2 slots has a cover. Great. It's labelled as a heat dissipation device, and it's only goal seems to be aesthetically hiding the drives (that are often just a PCB and thus not aesthetically pleasing). What's frustrating then? Well, 1/2 seems like a half measure. It'd be nice to have something...but if you're getting a decently large GPU the area will likely be covered. It's thus not a negative...but it is weird if the goal is to actually increase performance by dissipating heat. None of the negative above should prevent you from purchasing this board. It's great, with a 5600x it runs 64 GB of RAM at 3200 16-18-18-28 without issue, and it's less finicky than all of the previous Ryzen generation setups I've dealt with. That alone should make it good...and 4/5 is not worth dismissing. Everything makes compromises between features, design, and cost. This board does it very well.

Most motherboards are not conformal coated and even though some have voltage spike protective circuity it is not always guaranteed. ESD is a thing no matter what someone tells you. Invest in a ESD setup, they are cheap, easy to setup and do help when handling sensitive electronics. Use motherboard mount risers in cases and don't over-tighten. Invest in a ESD setup, they are cheap, easy to setup and do help when handling sensitive electronics. Use motherboard mount risers in cases and don't over-tighten. The board should not be directly attached flat on the case. You need it spaced at the mount post and tight enough to help ground; not smash as it is a multilayer board, over tightening will pinch and cause issues because you don't know where all the bus runs are at between each layer. ALWAYS look at the QVL (Quality Vendors List = List of tested products from manufacturer that will work with their product) when ordering RAM and Drives if you don't understand RAM and Drive settings beyond Auto. This can save you a ton of headaches. Ordering any speed ram and hoping it works is a pointless gamble as you might be sending back working products that don't work when paired together. The QVL has part numbers you can cross reference with the RAM manufactuer which will guide you with what products they have that will work and what speeds they will work at. Some RAM manufacturer sites have a way for you to look up what is in their distribution and what will work with your or plan to buy motherboard. Invest in a power supply tester before you power on, cheap and easy. Even if you think it works or it was working with another board, things can happen. Testers are super cheap as well and a great way to check that you have good voltages coming out. It's like carpentry in measuring twice but cut once. When attaching, make sure you have a good/flush connection and the correct connectors for the socket you are plugging into. When powering on, it takes a couple of minutes for the BIOS to detect what's plugged into the motherboard to post first time up. It might look dead but you have to give it a couple of minutes to detect and set, it might even cycle power a couple of times before you get a BIOS or UEFI screen option. Don't go straight to an OS install, go through your BIOS first during your first couple of posts. Patience can go a long way during this phase and testing your basic settings for power up and OS install prep will help smooth things out. When updating your BIOS or UEFI, READ THE MANUFACTURES INSTRUCTIONS OR README FILE (if there is one) on what files to use or which files to use in sequence. Sometimes, you have to install a WHQL on a working operating system before even attempting to update the BIOS and other times you have to upgrade a BIOS to a previous version first before the updated one. Sometimes you get lucky and it's just load a file on a USB of newest version. Make sure you understand this or ask around if need be. If you are not sure, go the motherboard manufacturer you want to buy from and look at the support page for the product you want to buy. It will explain if you have to and and what you have to do if you notice your motherboard doesn't come shipped with the most recent. A majority of people don't know that these boards from almost all manufacturers are tested off the line before they are packaged and shipped out. Especially the major manufactures most of us buy from. It is not just a assembly line then off they go. They actually try to catch the faulty products before they go out. Good on the manufacturer for reaching out to and trying to help consumers. All these build a PC videos don't explain the buying and research process which is unfortunate. The lego blocks part is pretty simple in the videos but the language, principles of operation and compatibility is where some of the intricacies play a role. I wish more people doing the build videos would focus more on those type of things. Hopefully this information helps someone out there as this is for a few folks out there. This motherboard was great overall though. I had to update the BIOS as this was for my son and he plays Destiny 2 along with many other games. We paired it with the 3600 and the video card is a RTX 2080. Performance is def stellar as it was upgraded from a 1600x. I'm sure it will improve even more as the chipset gets ironed out over time. Since I have the Ryzen 7 3800x and not the Ryzen 9 3900x , I felt the other boards were a little overkill for what I needed. X570 is fairly new and this board is first edition, no revisions, and was worried about potential issues, but so far so good. Once I got all my components to put together the PC, I looked up that it BEST the do the BIOS flash with a thumb drive and with the CPU and RAM removed, so i followed the instructions and the new BIOS installed successfully. IF YOU HAVE TWO RAM STICK, YOU HAVE TO USE SLOTS A2 AND B2 OR YOU WILL NEVER GET OVER 2133MHz. Booted Windows 10 Pro with UEFI Thumb drive, and sucessfully installed and booted properly. At the time I had EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SCC. I installed drivers and performed WIN10 updates, installed the mass amount of applications and that's about it. Coming from a FX-8350 on a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Rev-4 (Still going strong on 4.24GHz OC), this was a huge difference. While gaming on AAA titles or stress tests, every core at some point goes to just under 4.5GHz (AVG 4.1GHz) @ just under 1.5v (avg 1.3v) with it set to "AUTO" which seems to me a high voltage, but no heat related issues or crashes. VRM runs cool and other than the CPU (73 max), the max temp across the board is in the 50's, but mostly in the 30's or less. Even after upgrading to a Sapphire 5700XT Special Edition last week ( didn't have driver issues with that either other than 2 games) which really woke up the CPU, but didn't drastically change board temps. I was considering getting an AIO and tinker with timings to get a stable overclock, but kinda like the AUTO feature where it's not running higher clocks 24/7, which in theory should prolong chip life, but probably gonna get the AORUS ACT800 to lower max temps and enable precision boost because I have great airflow in my Fractal Designs Define S2 and also waiting for THERMOSIPHON from ICEGIANT for the best cooling. Enjoying the Audio card playing 24-bit audio to my stereo using optical. I didn't really buy this board for the RGB, but I must say that it could be better. The lights themselves are bright and accurately display colors; however, the one behind the MOSFET heatsink is too far back and doesn't really shine like it could (looks to be mounted on board...not a deal breaker) and the 2 lower strips are covered by a thick diffused plastic, that completely kills the brightness and color accuracy, because you can see it's true potential leaking from behind the board. It's sad that the AORUS RGB software works better on my Trident Z RAM better than Trident's own software, but I'm glad I can sync it with MB and soon to be GPU when I receive my 3-pin ARGB cable. I'm hoping that they can figure out the RAM brightness before Trident does because all I want is a lower brightness on the static color preset. If your like me and want to gamble with good components that may have issues, but turns out to work fine, and makes a great, future-proof, $200 board for your setup, this is the one for you. Worst case scenario, you have to return it or contact the manufacture for the warranty.

But if and when I want to get a second one, I will have to order the parts. Another thing I see mentioned here in the reviews that I did not realize how much it would matter this time around was the small number of fan and LED headers on the board. Here it was a problem because now I had to order additional cable splitters, one for the addressable and one for the non-addressable connectors. Fortunately, this is not expensive, but it is an extra step you might need to do with this board if you are going to have extra fans in the case and/or use the RGB lighting capabilities that the fans might provide. I am appreciative that some people have mentioned (warned) that it can happen that Windows will not load sometimes. It has only happened to me a couple times since I built this a few weeks ago, but it can be disconcerting when it does. Fortunately, for me, it has only happened a couple times, and not in the last several days. Still… Otherwise, things seem to work well with this board. I got the Wifi version, but realize I will probably not need to use Wifi often with it, since I already have a wired LAN connection available. With the Cooler Master 212 RGB Black CPU cooler mounted on the Ryzen 3800X CPU, I can only use the two memory slots on the away (2,4) side of the slots. I seem to have enough memory with 16 GB (8 x 2), but if I ever wanted more, it looks like I would have to start over with two 16 GB sticks, since I do not think I could use all four slots and simply add 2 more 8GB memory sticks. I do like the board overall however, because it does what I need, and the PC is much faster than my aging Surface Pro laptop, especially doing video rendering. I feel that 4 eggs is about right for the overall rating for this board.
With so many poor reviews previously I was a bit leery, but I've used Gigabyte before and had good luck with them. I put this system together with a 3700x and it's working great so far. It's getting excellent benchmarks for its class in all areas. No functional issues at all. A huge feature for is the Smart Fan built into the BIOS. You can set your own fan curves based on an array of sensors. It doesn't do anything complex, but it allows you to customize fan operation . Really a great feature and so happy to have that. A big concern for me (and a lot of other people) is that awful chipset fan. But you'll be relieved to find it pretty much never comes on. In two weeks of using the system daily it has yet to spin up. I have room for one using a compact video card (1660 super single fan). My one complaint is the BIOS is a bit buggy and doesn't have the fastest boot time. For example there are cosmetic things like cut off text and I came across a setting that didn't stick. Boot times are tolerable, but on startup it does a bunch of stuff like checking fans that unnecessarily slows things down. Gigabyte is working on their BIOS and improving things so it should not be a showstopper, in fact there should be a new BIOS version any day now. Edit: Well it's been some months with a few BIOS revisions using this board and they've not fixed a single quality issue I have with the BIOS. I've had to change my rating to poor. It's a great board hardware wise, but if the BIOS is poor quality it doesn't matter.

They ended up trying to contact me a day later at a completely different time than I had specified, I was unable to answer due to being in an appointment. The new motherboard arrived, and after installing it and booting it up everything appeared fine. When I went into the BIOS, I got the same issue; and when I checked the BIOS version in System Information, I was using the exact same version that had originally been the issue. I also discovered I would be unable to reinstall my OS with this current motherboard for some apparent reason. Currently my device is being looked at by a local computer company in the hopes that I am able to resolve this issue without having to look for and purchase another motherboard I would then need to install again. The only reason I am leaving 2 stars is because the motherboard worked fine as long as you didn't need to do anything with the BIOS. Perhaps in a different system and setup it will work better for someone else, but I would strongly recommend purchasing a different motherboard.
