I've wanted to try a Global chef knife since reading Anthony Bourdain's endorsement in Kitchen Confidential, and it does not disappoint. The Massdrop price made it a no brainier. My wife has even taken to it. I've been trying to get her to use full size knives forever, but she's always preferred dinky little paring knives. Now the Global is the first one she grabs.

This diamond sharpening steel is suitable for emergency sharpening. Thus ultimately creating more work when I get out my water stones. Obviously, I prefer my knives terrifyinglysharp. If youre comfortable using more force when you cut, or using a sawing motion, then this steel will be all you ever need in life to be happy.I wish I could keep this tool on my magnetic cutlery retainer, along with my knives and spatulas, but it is weakly magnetic. There is no lanyard hole, either, so simple hooks and nails are not an option. If I had it to do all over again, I would still buy this sharpening steel. If youre in the middle of food preparation and you accidentally drop your knife or roll the edge over, then this sharpening steel is a life saver. But I can imagine some customers regretting this purchase. This is a good tool. For all I know, it might even be the best in the world of its kind. In my opinion, though, it is only a 3star or 4star product. Hopefully, future generations will improve upon it.

In the words of a culinary instructor I lived with for a time: "If I were going to work as a professional cook in some restaurant starting Monday, I'd get a set of Globals. They're great if you want a good knife that doesn't need to be babied."Spot on. My wife and I got a couple from our wedding registry, and I bought a few more when this sale went live. Some people don't like the dimpled steel handles because they can get a little slippery compared to wood, but that's the only downside I can think of for these things.

It was a Christmas gift for my brother, who loves to cook. The first time he used it, chopping the carrots and parsnips for the big dinner, he yelled out: "boy this knive really makes it easy!" Last Sat, my Bae cleaned it and put it in the drain board tip down. He brought it in to her to illustrate how she was supposed to handle it.It is his first professional knife and he loves it! Great buy!
My expectation was that this would last longer than it has. Doesnt sharpen after approx. 20 uses. That makes for very expensive knife sharpening.Have addresses with supplier, but not received a response.Disappointed.
I've had this knife now for almost a year and it's my go to for cutting vegetables and fine prep work. Blade is angled very sharply which allows for accurate cuts without mashing delicate vegetables or fruits. Main critique is that it does not have enough support on the top of the knife if I am cutting through thicker cuts of meat or hard root vegetables.
I am a Chef and Global are my knife brand of choice so I had to get this steel to add to my Global family. I am so in love with it and it gives such an amazing edge to my knives. There's no going back.
Ive toiled with so many unsatisfactory knife sharpeners over the years but this one is the d... b..... You see them them working with knives on Masterchef that cut through everything and anything like butter. With this sharpener youll be able to do the same. Brilliant

Ive had this for just 8 months and have never intensively used just a few brief swipes each time I get a knife out of the rack but, similar to another reviewers experience, my sharpener has lost over 50 of its diamonds rendering it near useless. Maybe naively, considering the cost, I had expected a near lifetime of use but far from the case. I suggest you do not consider buying.
