...it just hits the ground and stays there. The cheap construction and the tenuous placement of the bounce card offers plenty of opportunities to fall off. Shooting events, like I do, it's close to impossible to move through crowds without guarding this feeble piece of thin, poorly designed plastic. Unfortunately, it's the one piece I would use the most. Now it's time to MacGyver some way to bolster it and make it useable. Beware the bounce!I do like the magnetic connectors...

The bounce card is kind of terrible. It's only about 20-30% bigger than straight-on and has 90 deg and 45 deg tilt options. It crinkles easily because it's a white sticker on a black plastic card which crinkles pretty easy when you try to put it in the storage container. This would not have been a problem had they just shipped a white card with a black sticker or some such but heavens know why they did that.Other stuff works pretty well but it's a bit hard to tell the warm filters appart under less than ideal lighting conditions.

When I first got this, I was impressed with how well thought out the whole godox system was. The kit is cleverly packaged and integrates with the AD200 well. Then, reality settles in.The filters are useless for the most part. The system for stacking them is cumbersome and not very secure. Rouge gels fit the round with a rubber band and offer better versatility. The snoot didn't restrict light very well, but let's put that aside for a moment. The snoot basically shows the weakness of the whole system, the magnets are a little too weak. They're just not quite secure enough. Maybe I'm missing something. The grid and the barn door may be useful. I kind of gave up before I used them.Anyway, it's a bummer. This certainly seems cool. It just didn't really deliver much value in practice.

I've been having fun with this kit, using things I never thought I would like the snoot and barn doors. The white card thing is a bit fiddly and can bend/break off so might not be good for fast based event photography where a Magmod would be much better, however it is more portable and better than nothing. The only thing that lets it down for me is the case is so small and everything has to be packed perfectly in a certain way before you can even think about closing it. Not something you want to be fiddling with on location with models waiting around and the light fading. To me this would mean leaving some of the kit at home or in another bag. Not ideal as that is how things get lost.
Such a bargain for quality built accessories that would otherwise cost $1000 if purchase through profoto. I know as I have actually done so!!Profoto do have more accessories and they are more substantial too, but they are many many times more the price, AND They must be purchased individually. There is not great all-in-one pack like the V1 accessory kit. There is a review that says they couldn’t fit it all back in the case after opening it?? Really?? Take two more seconds to figure it out buddy, it fits perfect, Infact, after unpacking all the plastic packaging, I can even now fit my spare battery in it.Tight fit? Kind-of but not really. It’s another way of saying perfect fit!!The magnetic attachments are a better copy to the profoto. Stronger attachments that ... Stronger attachments that make you feel more confident it won’t fall off no matter how many attachments you pile up on it.I lose confidence after the third attachment on the profoto. It’s still good, just not as good as the V1’s.I love them. I love the case it comes in. I love the build quality. I love the strength of the magnets. I love the options you are given. I love you. I love photography!!!
I appreciate the value Godox has brought to the market. Such a variety of products to satisfy almost every need across such a spectrum of photographic pursuits. The AK-R1 magnetic accessory kit is a must have for those with V1 or AD200 round head strobes. I've bought two since I have four heads that qualify for magnetic accessories. Some I doubt will ever see use. Which is why I object to having to buy an entire kit when I only now need to get an additional part that might not be available singly. The dome diffuser is available, but little else. Sell the parts individually, please.
You, or I, won't use every modifier included in these kits. OK? But you'll use most of them enough to wish you had spares. Or you get an additional round head for your AD200 or V1. But buying things separately (are they available separately?) may not be an option. I've found that the included filters are not for me. But the magnetic part is great. The market is expanding (Rogue) with filters and gel holders that make this Godox system work even greater.
The barn doors, gel holder, and grid are great and probably make the kit worth the price. I like that these are magnetic and easy to use. The snoot, bounce card, and the dome however just don't do it for me. I have yet to be able to get them to perform anywhere near the level of their big brothers (where those exist). At the price though - who cares. I bought the color effects filters in addition to this kit and expect to get a lot of mileage from all of the above - so I would definitely recommend this.
For the gel ring, there are several slots as if you could layer them for a more specific color match situation. This could be an incorrect assumption on my part, but when I attempted to notch in 2 gels, they stuck together and I could not remove either from the ring without getting a thin wire into the ring to separate the two so they could rotate independently.User error? Probably. Otherwise everything is very smartly designed and it all stores in its case very nicely. The gels will be perfect for matching light temps in real estate scenarios.
I really just wanted the bounce and diffuser dome but had to buy the whole kit. (does anyone need barn doors for a flash?) Annoying to have to buy this to get accessories that come with and are built in to most other flashes on the market. The bounce card it really poorly designed, the card falls out really easily. The dome is smaller and less diffuse than what I would like.Would be awesome if there was a silicon (gary fong style) diffuser available for this flash.
