There are a few small perks with the Amaran 100D that make it better than the SL100D: more convenient locking cord, Apature?s Bowens Mount Hyper-reflector doesn?t create as bad of a hot spot as Godox?s does, I personally prefer the simpler 1-button control panel on the 100D and using my phone for all other settings. However, despite the little things that make Amaran?s 100D better, you simply cannot beat the price of Godox's SL100D relative to its build quality. If you are someone who demands all the bells and whistles, get the 100D. But if price is your main concern (which I feel is probably true for the vast majority of people who are looking at these lights and not something that?s all metal) there?s really no reason not to get the SL100D. Great light and value for the money. One major flaw is if you use the Godox app to turn the light off, then the fan will always be running 24/7. You need to unplug or flip the power switch on the back (some how cut the power) to turn off the fan. Other than that I would give it 4 stars minus one for not telling us about the fan issue. FYI - the fan noise is not loud enough to bother my videos but is annoying when it is running all the time. I thinking about returning or getting a inline power switch.
I just started swapping over to continuous lighting for my headshot studio work. I now have 2 plugin LED lights. An 80W from another vendor and now this 100W unit. I'm impressed how much brighter this Godox 100W is versus the 80W from GVM. Since it does not have a battery option, it's only really good for studio use.
Powerful for the money, but not ideal for quiet/up close sets for recording audio. It makes a noticeable hum that might be a deal breaker depending on the circumstance. Just know ahead of time it won't be silent. Reflector also creates an inconsistent pattern brightest in the center.
Not sure what I expected, but this thing is bright! Well worth the money it is lightweight with a decent build quality. It's easy to use right out of the box and I am already considering buying a second.

This Godox SL100D produces a high-quality illumination, and is light and relatively small, and very easy to use.Just take it out of the box, attach to a standard light stand, plug in the wonderfully long standard AC cord, flip the on/off switch and adjust the simple brightness dial (to anywhere between 100% and 1%). (Note that there is no remote control like some of the more expensive Godox lights.)The light itself is suitably bright, just about perfect for a one or two person photo shoot, especially if you are using 3-4 of these to illuminate a body from front left, front right, plus the background, and maybe another as hair light.
