I initially purchased the Godox V860III because it was a little cheaper and I was not crazy about the round head as I thought it would be too big. I also wanted to be able to trigger my AD200 with the flash on the hot shoe. The V860III that I received was defective; I returned it for an exchange however, they were out of stock. B&H gave me a good discount on the V1 so I went with it for a replacement. After using it, I really like the V1. It is not that much bigger than a standard speedlight. With the exception of the wheel on the back, the build quality is very good, much better than I expected. My only (minor) complaint would be that the wheel on the back feels a little on the cheap side. It works fine but just does not have that quality feel to it like the rest ... MoreI initially purchased the Godox V860III because it was a little cheaper and I was not crazy about the round head as I thought it would be too big. I wish they had made it a little more substantial. Overall it is very good shoe mount camera flash that I can also triggering my AD200 with. It also triggers my other speedlights with the Godox X1R-C triggers. I purchased the magnetized accessory kit, which simply pop onto the flash, a nice feature. Overall, I am satisfied with the V1 and am glad I ended up with it instead of the V860II.

I am an event photographer and own 3 of these flashes, love them EXCEPT during events they have on MULTIPLE occasions suddenly become wobbly in their shoe connection joint and have broken off the camera leaving the bottom of the foot still locked on the camera while the rest of the flash crashes to the floor. I had 2 flashes break during the first year so BH would repair them under warranty. 3rd break was out of warranty so I have purchased 8 replacement feet for repairs myself so I can continue using them without any turn around time and lower cost. I will continue using but not without having a second one in my bag for quick change out when the first one suddenly breaks with little to no warning. UGH. the flash weighs more than the plastic foot can adequately ... MoreI am an event photographer and own 3 of these flashes, love them EXCEPT during events they have on MULTIPLE occasions suddenly become wobbly in their shoe connection joint and have broken off the camera leaving the bottom of the foot still locked on the camera while the rest of the flash crashes to the floor. Manufacturers tell you to purchase a new head for $20 from 3rd party. My Canon friends do not have the same problem.Flash is actually pretty nice and of great quality besides the snapping off problemo. Had a good refresh speed. I had 2 but they just kept breaking before I could replace them fast enough. Upgraded to profoto A10 and the same thing happened (after 6months).I wanted to like to godox. I did not want to buy the $1000 profoto but it seems the Sony a7 series hotshoe has a weak point and causes the flash to break. I had 2 fellow photographers who shot canon who did not have this problem.Overall: 2 stars.Negative:Neck snaps off for Sony hotshoeCompany doesn't want to warrant or send u replacement partsPositiveFlash operates like it is suppose ... MoreManufacturers tell you to purchase a new head for $20 from 3rd party. My Canon friends do not have the same problem.Flash is actually pretty nice and of great quality besides the snapping off problemo. My old Nikon 900 bit the dust, so I took advantage of B&H holiday discounts. This is a really solid device and works perfectly on my Nikon D700 (yes, that old) and my new Hasselblad X2D. I use it on camera, off camera with a Nikon hot-shoe cable, and I pair it with the Godox 400 mono-light; it is wonderful in all configurations-seamless for both Nikon and the Hasselblad. It takes a little practice to get used to the exposure compensation controls, but it's really not that difficult, and after a couple of sessions, it's pretty much baked in. It acts as the controller for the AD400 pro--sweet. I also purchased the accessory kit, and the diffuser dome is quite nice. It's a great system and I plan to build it out with other pieces and accessories. Highly recommended.
Love it , this flash has saved me. It's easy to use and is dead on. I used it on an event with about 150 people , when the lighting was very dark inside and it was just impossible to shoot without a flash. I use a TTL function and it worked like a charm I was able to get some magnificent photos single shot ,group shots , aerial shots you name it , thing was dead on. I have use other flash in the past and the fact that this is not a Sony flash wasn't very impressive to me because It did everything that I wanted it to do and I'm very happy with the performance . I would recommend it to anyone using a Sony I'm not really sure how it works with the other Camera like canon, Nikon etc. The cameras i used it on was the a Sony a 7R3 and also had it a 7S , it work on both ... MoreLove it , this flash has saved me. I was originally going to look at buying the Sony flash but when I looked at the price I thought like , wow it is too much . So I bought this , the money that I saved was incredible. If you buy this flash make sure that you get the kit because the kit works really well with this flash, it has several accessories that you can use in your photography. I have ordered two more of these flash units so that I can use in the studio and on location shoots. Let me also say that B&H was able to send the flash within three days of ordering it and I thought that was pretty fantastic , promptly getting this to me within three days. I will be using this flash for a New Years Event and can't wait to use it a the event. So if you are looking at the best third-party flash units give this one a try you will not be disappointed by the performance and quality of this awesome unit. One last thing that I want to mention is the fact that this unit cost is just above $250 I forget what the exact cost was but it was under $320 with the kit. I would highly remind buying with the kit because of the bounce card and the many other usable accessories in the kit. So defiantly give it a try .Good luck and enjoy Your Sony V1
I have purchased many flash units over the years. When I purchased the Olympus OM D-EM1 I bought the Olympus Flash. The Godox is far superior to the Olympus flash. In using it so far I have experienced better coverage, better TTL, faster recycle time, and more flashes per battery (the Godox Unit is rechargeable). I would suggest that when purchasing this Godox you purchase the accessory kit...it contains all you need for flash modification and you are provided a fantastic storage pouch for all modifiers. It is well worth the price. I could see expanding this system to use for portrait work by purchasing the on camera electronic trigger system. The Godox contains unbelievable electronic possibilities. I really want to love this flash. The model light! The responsiveness! The overall experience when you first get it is incredible! It does NOT miss - super important for wedding photography! That is until you use it the 3rd or 4th time. I started noticing the flash having a bit of play around the 3rd time as if it was becoming loose. Haven't bumped it, dropped it, or anything of that nature, so I didn't pay it much mind at first. Same wedding, well into the reception, a guest bumped me while dancing (bumped me, not the flash - and not that hard either, but enough to jerk the flash slightly). The flash fell with the hot shoe still attached to the camera. Thankfully I had a V860II in my bag as a back up. The flash fell with the hot shoe still attached to the camera. Thankfully I had a V860II in my bag as a back up. It gets better...I order TWO replacement hot shoes (just in case one of them broke), and put the first one on. First wedding I went to, same thing, loose, didn't fall off this time though. But I already knew where this was going. Swapped it out that night with the new hot shoe, for the wedding the next day. And would you believe, I brushed a wall and the flash came right off. So now it just sits on my work desk, broken...3 hot shoe's within 5 uses of each other. It's not reliable enough for me to bring it to another wedding honestly. It really is a bummer because I want to love this flash.
I can't say enough good about this flash kit. The hot shoe on the flash itself is now metal, which is't always the case with Sony compatible flashes and accessories due to the smart feature connectors on Sony Camera hot shoes. I tried Westcott's latest flash with the slick touch screen, but I ended up preferring the Godox physical buttons and dials. I find it easier to get muscle memory down and use the menus quickly and easily this way. The Westcott has better color accuracy, but I was able to get the godox white balanced like I want it with gels. And the Godox is much less expensive. The only complaint I have is that TTL still doesn't work with the flash trigger on my cameras. The Flash does, but not when using off camera flash with the trigger (Manual works fine, though). All of my cameras are recent cameras, but they have all been out for more than a year or 2. I would think that Godox/flashpoint could have update the firmware on the trigger to include them by now. Otherwise, I think this flash will serve me for years to come, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
Pros: seems well made, lots of good reviews. Fired off a couple of tests pictures (Eventually) and the results when using flash are amazing. Keen to grow my knowledge and experience using this flash and more.Cons: Need a degree to work out how to set up and use it! SeemsFragile round the base. Also gives off non compatible messages when connecting to the camera (Sony A7IV) and not very novice friendly to work out how to use for some one trying to get into flash photography. Manual not very clear to follow. Still happy with the e purchase but feel the accessories could be bundled with it to make it better value.
I've been watching tons of youtube videos on this flash and not one of them had any negative things to say. There were some that pointed some nonsense about no guide on flash output power, but to me that is just pointless. When you have all these professional photographers from all walks of life, and from just about every genre of photographers raving about this flash unit. I took a leap in faith and am so pleased that I did. I purchased the Godox V1-C with the modifier kit, all in all about $260+ give or take. A sound and solid investment! This thing is a work horse! It's like they smashed a trigger, modeling lamp and a very versitile flash into an affordable, compact and awesome design.
