GOLDENs Heavy Body Acrylic Paint line is the original line of acrylic colors produced by GOLDEN. The Heavy Body line is know for its beautifully smooth, buttery texture and is the largest collection of 100% acrylic emulsion formulas available. When working with this line of GOLDEN acrylics, the colors retain brush strokes and knife marks, almost as if "standing up" off the medium. Due to the exclusion of any and all filler, extenders, opacifiers, toners, or dyes added, GOLDENs Heavy Body acrylic colors offer exceptional permanency and lightfastness. On the other hand, due to no added matting agents, this line does not have a consistent finish. Considering each color has a different pigment toleration, those with a higher toleration will dry to a more matte finish. Those colors requiring a lower pigment load will dry glossier with higher transparency. In terms of workability, GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylics are thixotropic in nature, meaning the more the paint is moved, the lower the viscosity becomes. The faster the application, the thinner the paints feel beneath your tool of choice. When the colors come to rest they gradually return to their formulated viscosity.

I have tried almost every brand of acrylic paint on the market. I have never found ANYTHING that even comes close to Golden Brand acrylics. The brilliance and intensity of the colors are simply breathtaking. They are creamy, easy to apply with both brushes or knives, and blend beautifully. I did a mixed media painting to celebrate winning my battle with cancer. I included many words, sayings, images, and a poem that I had written, hiding them beneath the surface of the paint, as many of them represented very personal fears and other feelings. Only Golden acrylics allowed me to accomplish the moods of these various stages of my journey, from the dark, subdued browns and greens of the initial stages to the bright, yet muted, turquoises, reds, and yellows that represented the hope and peace I felt as my journey began to come to a close. Golden was quite honestly the only brand of acrylics that allowed me to do this. Yes, they are pricey but my experience has taught me that they are worth every penny. This coming June I will celebrate my 76th birthday. I thank God every day for my life, my family, my friends, and the gift of creativity. I hope to be able to paint for a long time to come. And I hope to be able to do so with Golden brand acrylic paints. My goal is to live long enough to own every single color of Golden acrylics!

Golden Heavy Body Acrylics remain my favorite brand of acrylic paint. The smooth texture, along with the weight or body of the paint is perfect. The Titanium White blends easily with water, glazing mediums and textile mediums for a wide range of applications on multiple surfaces. If you've ever had a tube to split open, you know what I mean.I learned many years ago to keep the inside of the caps clean, and to wipe off any excess paint on the threads to keep a good seal, and keep the paint from drying out.To that end - quite a few years ago, with each paint order (Golden, of course) I started putting the date and the price on each of the paint tubes with a fine point marker. It has helped me to track my usage of colors and the prices. I have at least a handful of tubes of other Golden acrylic paints dated from early 2015 that are still fresh and useable.

So...I miss a particular acrylic line that Daniel Smith created. I spent hours on line hunting colors that matched as close as possible. This brown is fabulous! It's a tad translucent straight on but second coat, it is deep and rich. Adding black or white or a variation of cream....omg! Just beautiful! Official new mainstay in my studio. Thank you Golden.

I have to have titanium white for most of my colors. So I've tried a few different brands since I use it a lot on a daily basis. Mainly to see if I like the quality and more affordable at the same time. But I have to say I still prefer the Golden colors better for its quality and affordability when compared to other colors. Titanium white is titanium white for any brands, but the creamy buttery texture that all Golden heavy body paints is something I really like.
Aside from this being a great quality paint, I need to sing praises to Blick customer service. This product was shipped in the same box as a gallon of gesso and in the handling of the box during shipping, the gallon shifted and kind of mangled the tube. I texted Blick customer service regarding the damaged tube and they immediately shipped me a replacement without any questioning. I offered to send a photo of the damaged tube, but they courteously said that wasn't necessary, they trust their customers. I'll continue to used Blick for my art supplies going forward.
As close to oil painting texture and look as you can get in an acrylic. With that said the pros and cons. Pros; email golden and get a hand painted swatch card so you don't waste money, the colors are wonderful, the quality is outstanding.Cons; their caps are evil! They stick so bad and even break sometimes so you need to be careful when opening them up and always always wipe the top of the tube on some paper towel before putting the cap back on. I bought a pair of needle nose pliers with a round grip in them just to open these tubes. Liquitex does not have that problem. Their paints also don't look like oils when dry either. The only other con is that they dry stupid fast! If you are laying down 12 colors in small quantities the first color could dry by the time ... MoreAs close to oil painting texture and look as you can get in an acrylic. So order yourself one of those Chroma Atilier fine misters and get the acrylic mediums that they make to help keep them open. A small drop the size of a chocolate chip is usually enough to keep them workable for a while. Once I found a method to keep them moist long enough I loved them. #sweepstakes
When you want a great paint, there are a couple of brands that you usually turn to. Mine is Golden. For me, great paint is the real difference between a good picture and a great picture. A paint like Golden gives you more vibrancy, reliability, depth of color, pigment, stability and coverage. There is no finer paint than Golden for my needs. The colors are vibrant, enduring. The application is smooth whether you use a fluid acrylic or a heavy body acrylic. Colors mix and blend beautifully, giving you an incredible range of customized color. Used with one of their mediums, I can achieve any effect I want, from a very soft, delicate watercolor type to a heavy impasto. Overall these are nice like all of Golden's paint line, but need modifications to use them well. They are too glossy, so you have to add a matting agent to calm them down, such as a Fluid Matte Medium. This weakens the color, though. Golden discontinued the Matte Fluid Acrylics so these are now the only choice. The SoFlat line is nice, but too matte and not quite fluid enough for me. The caps on these Fluid acrylics are terrible, clog up too easily and are tough to open with your fingers every time, especially when they get paint residue inside them. These paints stick like crazy to my glass palette and other surfaces, hard to remove, and I find them harder to modify on the canvas than the Heavy Body consistency paints. These paints stick like crazy to my glass palette and other surfaces, hard to remove, and I find them harder to modify on the canvas than the Heavy Body consistency paints. I want to create dripping paint in some places so I got these, but they don't run far enough (I want to mimic an oil paint that would have a little solvent and medium added to the oil). So I bought the High Flow, which flows too much. So I mix the High Flow and Fluid together to get the correct dripping consistency. Labeling has changed, it's a bit more cryptic, but if you know what the symbols mean you can understand it. I have yet to try other brands, but am going to look into them (like Liguitex, Utrecht, Vallejo, Matisse, Da Vinci, etc), some of these say they have a matte finish.
Needed just the right paint and color for a landscape I was doing and tired for trying to mix just the right shade of green for the Texas Oak Trees and darker pine trees!! Jenkins Green worked perfectly. The heavy body is also great to use for depth and imposto work, while it can easily be thinned with various mediums or a little water. Of course, I LOVE all Golden paints. After 10 years of painting (and trying LOTS of different products) I prefer GOLDEN paints over everything else for their consistency, quality, and lack of "issues" in our Texas heat, too. Martin Media Art Studios will always choose GOLDEN for great results!
I bought this paint as a replacement for the tube that I used to the last drop. I use this hue in many of my mixed media paintings at full strength, as a glaze sometimes, or even as a wash. I like to experiment with pigment interactions made directly on the canvas and this is an interesting convenience mixture that does wonderful things when put to work. I know that this current formula is a replacement to the original one, actually it has changed several times due to safety reasons and pigment availability, but personally I love and always appreciated the quality of Golden paints.#sweepstakes
