I purchased the BASIC SET of primary colors, white and black. I also purchased three additional tubes. I have completed my first painting using OPEN and the HEAVY BODY GOLDEN acrylics. The difference in the two paint types is very slight. The HB is a little thicker and will last longer. The color is SO VIBRANT and SMOOTH! I honestly am amazed! I have really embraced these acrylics. I find that I can achieve the same effects and hues as with oils. Their workability and additional drying time factors into my painting style seamlessly.
I only started a couple of years ago but they have made painting very enjoyable. You can see my paintings done with them on Instagram @adbkartist. I do all of my work with them and love working with them.
They are not as opaque as the regular acrylics. However, for portraiture, they work really well.
I used to use oil paints, but switched to acrylics when I no longer had studio space. I got used to painting in acrylics, but missed spending time mixing a color pallet. I bought the Golden OPEN landscape set, and I love them. Now I can spend more time mixing my colors, can step away for short periods of time and come back to it. They have all of the benefits of acrylic being easily cleaned up with soap and water, no smell, still dry relatively quickly when spread out on a paint surface, just with less race against time with colors drying out on your pallet.
I really love the extra time the open line gives. The product is great and I have been enjoying the flexibility this product allows
When I first read about this product, I had a certain expectation. Actually using them in person, I was blown away by how smooth, blend-able, and pigmented these paints are. I had seen some negative reviews saying that opacity is a big problem with these paints. That is naturally true for some colors though, and I find most of these pigments to be comparable to heavy body when applied in layers. Transparency is very easy to build, and again, they blend very easily + the slow dry time of these paints are amazing. I have an airtight palette that allows these paints to sit for days and still be workable!
Easy to blend, mixes well, love the slow drying. I was able to fix a painting I did with another cheaper brand. It is worth the extra money to get good quality.
