Very limited. Routines are ok but lack of delay function is frustrating. When giving it instructions outside of routines, it appears impossible to ask the device to delay a task also. The level of questions it can respond to is not very sophisticated - great for current weather and time but not “what films are on in Sydney this Sunday evening”, for example. Terrific at turning smart lights and plugs on. I generally use it to stream music and radio and not much else. Tells jokes and simple quizzes, which appeals to my small children but it’s not supposed to be a toy. I was hoping for so much more. I’m probably being a bit harsh but it’s failed to connect to my wifi again!

Nest worked fine for a while after I got it but suddenly started to disconnect from my wifi randomly every other day or so. Maybe because of a firmware update? This necessitates a long logging in process which is tedious to say the least. I have a very good modern wifi set up and have tried every fix suggested by users without success (full reset, move Nest closer to AP, change wifi settings etc etc)Hundreds of other people are reporting the same issue on line but Google has not found a fix for well over a year and indeed has been almost silent on the problem, which is a disgrace in itself. My other 2 older minis work fine. It is very disappointing and I thoroughly recommend that people DON’T buy a Nest Mini while this issue exists. I think Google have handled this ... MoreNest worked fine for a while after I got it but suddenly started to disconnect from my wifi randomly every other day or so. I like it it and work with it in conjunction with other devices as Intercom, Smart Home AV Controller, weather/news and what's open advisor. But at times it loses wifi and repairing it is kinda fraught. Sometimes it doesn't remember me or the questions I have asked it several times before in exactly the same way. Sometimes it repeats my smart home instructions sometimes you get the "dunk" sound as its done. Google also has a nasty way of dumbifying and downgrading features that endear you to it then ..they are changed or gone. Then there are Magic words that you learn by accident coz nowhere are they advised one such example "ACTIVATE". This distinguishes a command from a song or other thing.I would love a rework of the You Tube application perhaps Hey Google show ... MoreI like it it and work with it in conjunction with other devices as Intercom, Smart Home AV Controller, weather/news and what's open advisor. The sound quality is good for such a small device; Voice recognition is usable most of the time; Connectivity is good, but seriously lacking when it comes to connecting any third-party smart devices, which all talk to Google only through their own proprietary apps, (so you might need a dozen or more different 'smart' apps on your phone); Google Home app used for controlling your Google devices is a slow-moving, convoluted mess, with more menus than actual functions; There are a range of built-in non-removable Routines, and you can create your own albeit with very limited flexibility, ie. controlling or triggered by other devices, or no changing the order of commands; Media playback is just through the pay per month Google/Youtube Music or Spotify, neither allows ... MoreThe sound quality is good for such a small device; Voice recognition is usable most of the time; Connectivity is good, but seriously lacking when it comes to connecting any third-party smart devices, which all talk to Google only through their own proprietary apps, (so you might need a dozen or more different 'smart' apps on your phone); Google Home app used for controlling your Google devices is a slow-moving, convoluted mess, with more menus than actual functions; There are a range of built-in non-removable Routines, and you can create your own albeit with very limited flexibility, ie. controlling or triggered by other devices, or no changing the order of commands; Media playback is just through the pay per month Google/Youtube Music or Spotify, neither allows fine control of song selection, randomising, or custom playlists. Bottom line, it's a handy device for giving you reminders or telling you the weather or news, but little else works so well.
Great sound for the size. If you happy with the Google ecosystem it is a good buy for playing background music. I have since subscribed to Prime since buying this so a couple Echo will likely be on the Christmas list and these passed along.Connectivity can be glitchy but firmware updates will likely address this.Pity about the round power supply; makes using an adjecent power point in double GPO or power board problematic.
I have been using Google smart devices for a few years. I have 4 of the original Google's and one nest mini. I find my self asking google for info all the time even when not at home because it becomes natural part of life. The google mini works well in my lounge with all my smarts switches, chromecast and even turn off/on my 12 year old Sony TV. In my shed it great when I have a math problem google comes up with the answer faster that I can find a piece of paper. Or remember something I need to purchase later at the shop. Last weekend I setup roller door to be automated and open with voice commands pin from the safety of my home on the way to my shed and turn lights on automatically. When I leave shed turn off and door shuts. No more finding of keys it a childhood ... MoreI have been using Google smart devices for a few years. I have 4 of the original Google's and one nest mini. When I leave shed turn off and door shuts. No more finding of keys it a childhood dream come true. I can't spell so when I'm in my main rooms I just ask google. I love that I can play music in all my main rooms of house with out advertising all just by asking for it. Turn all lights off is the best.
Honestly, it started off well. We have nest Mini v1 and V2 plus the google nest hub. However, it has come to the point that I am ready to move away from the system altogether. Often, we ask it to play music on youtube music on our homegroup of speakers, and it tries to play it on the TV. We ask it to set a timer on one device in the kitchen and it will respond with the device in the bathroom. When asking google how long is left on the timer, it will often tell you there is no timer (unless you are standing next to the device that decide to set it)Setting up the groups is a pain, the app needs work. But now with the devices on longer responding to commands correctly (even after factory resetting and voice re-training), I am losing patience with the whole thing. We live in google, and the idea of change is a massive undertaking, but if the devices are not functioning as they should be, how can we have a connected home that actually works with google? Started well ending poorly
Google Nest products have way too many problems doing what is asked of them. And there's no easy way to get Google to actually fix these issues. Endlessly sending / reporting feedback seems pointless when nothing ever seems to get fixed. They're effectively overpriced bluetooth speakers that cause more frustration than improve your life.Asking them to turn the light off, or change the volume etc is slower than just getting up and doing it. And when you then add in an extra two or three repeat attempts because it didn't understand, it becomes a massive waste of time.Google repeats back to you what you've asked it to do sometimes, especially when you seem to be playing music or trying to listen to something, and this just interrupts the listening experience. The ... MoreGoogle Nest products have way too many problems doing what is asked of them. And there's no easy way to get Google to actually fix these issues. Trying to get the ABC NEWS 24 TV station (from Australia) to stream from YouTube, is a fine art requiring perfect phrasing and good luck. Say no!
Before getting into it, I would like to say that my Home Mini had functioned without issues for 3 years. The unit works fine and sounds really good for the price, yet at times has issues with connectivity through Bluetooth (either does not, or times out quickly). The real issues begin randomly; it would suddenly, without reason disconnect from the entire homegroup altogether, or reset anew (requiring setup every instance). I have had no availability to the unit for about a year or longer, due to the issue occurring, and the unit not being able to locate any of my devices, nor being able to connect to the WiFi router (the router is fine). I have attempted to reconnect through fortnightly/monthly intervals. Since then, the issue occurred twice, with me being able to reconnect it to my device (in one month). If it happens again, I am not going to bother.
