Saw it on sale and bought it since I had an older on-hub device that went out of support. The buying process was quick and item arrived on time. However, was disappointed with the Device as I was not able to setup. Knowing Google devices, they are quick plug and play setups. However, I kept running into a “unable to connect to cloud” error during setup. Spent hours with Google support and even reached out to my internet provider to reprovision my modem but the device would not work. Looks like this is a known issue when I googled the symptoms. A little better than the competition.

Homes differ. I don’t want to suggest that competing products are intrinsically inferior to this product, but I did try out 4 different makes of mesh systems in my home and found the Google Nest AC 2200 three pack somewhat better than the competition in my home. The mesh systems I tried were the Netgear Orbi AC 3000 two pack, the Amazon eero 6 four pack, the TP Link Deco S 4 four pack and the Google Nest. All systems were comparable in price, around $ 250, during the Cyber Monday sale window, except for the TP Link system which cost about $ 180. I would consider these systems mid range mesh systems, not entry level ones. What I found is that none of the four named systems, all of which claimed 5000 to 6000 square ft of coverage, actually covered my 3000 square ft L shaped home with uniform speeds across the home. I got about 160-200 MBps in one half of my home and only 50-70 MBps in the far end of the other half of the house with these mesh networks. My subscription is 350 MBps and I get 120-160 MBps in one half and 30-50 MBps in the other half with just my router and extender. The three unit Google Nest based on the older AC 2200 standard gave me better speeds than even the four unit eero 6 mesh which is based on the newer Wi-Fi 6 standard, though the difference was not big: about 15 % better. Speed apart, the clincher for me was that the two Google extenders in the Nest pack came with built in speakers which could be used as network connected speakers to play streaming audio . Overall, the Google Nest was better in my layout but I wish I could get a true 5000 sq ft mesh with equal speeds across my whole home.

Buyer beware

Buyer beware! Google warranty counts for nothing so you take the risk on when you purchase their products. I bought a Nest wifi point 3 pack. One point failed within 3 months. Google took a month of calls to take back the faulty product but despite saying a replacement will be sorted it has been 3 months of phone calls every week and I've still yet to see the replacement product. They will stall you and make you restart the warranty process with every call until you give up. Check out the online Google customer service reviews and beware!

Defective Unit? Or Defective Design?

We purchased the 2 pack Nest Wifi Mesh router as a replacement for our older Apple AirPort Extreme. We could never get it to function properly, eventually returning it to the store. I'm digitally native, fairly technically competent and work in a technical field (engineer). These routers could not consistently maintain an internet signal. We have Xfinity internet. I imagine this is a very common setup in many homes using Nest routers. We tried the router with two customer owned modems, an older Arris DOCSIS 3.0 unit that has worked perfectly with the AirPort for about 6 years (can't remember the last time it even needed a restart) and a brand new Arris DOCSIS 3.1 modem. The router had the same issue of not being able to obtain/maintain an internet connection with both modems. I had to call technical support 3 separate times over the short time we had this unit. In the end, they blamed Xfinity, who in turn blamed Arris. But given that we had the same router issue with two separate Arris modems, and that each time when we reconnected our old AirPort, everything worked fine again, the variable here clearly is the Google Nest router. The Google Home app, which controls the device, is cumbersome. It's designed for ease of use, but this also means it's a "black box" with minimal user control should adjustments be needed. I'm still not sure if the issue we had was hardware or software related, but in the end it doesn't really matter as Very glad I was able to get a refund and try a router from another manufacturer. If you do plan to purchase one of these, in addition to price shopping, be sure to pay attention to the return window the retailer you're purchasing it from allows. We found national retailers vary from 15 days to 90 days. If a defect doesn't immediately present itself, in my experience, Google's warranty isn't where you want to be stuck, so those extra days may end up being valuable.

Do not buy from walmart market place. It's a trap.

The warranty expires within a month if you buy from walmart marketplace.My router stopped working after 4 months and when contacted to return walmart policy said the return window is closed and when i contacted google customer care they said it's not under warranty (I was in an assumption as everyone that it has 1 year manufacturing warranty) but google refused to return or replace the device.When i contacted back with walmart associate, same answer return window is completed and we cant do anything much about it. It's frustrating as the money spent for a brand new router is gone gone gone. Do not fall for this low cost offer from walmart for the google nest wifi, it's being sold from the third party marketplace. Expensive but works well.

Our double storey house initially had two of the first generation wifi mesh access points which worked well but did not have the strength to cover the entire house. I bought the Nest 3 pack recently while it was on sale and now the whole house has strong wifi coverage. It's great that the first generation is compatible with the the new gen.The wifi works great with seamless crossover from point to point. Two of the three devices are wifi access points with speakers and are Google Assistant compatible so you can ask Google to sing Happy Birthday or you can cast real music instead from apps like Spotify. There is also a physical switch to turn off the microphone to disable the assistant but you can still cast to them. Their volumes can be adjusted from the Google Home app or the app from which you're casting from, and even from the touch capacitive casing once you can figure it out! There are no labels to tell you where to touch and which side is volume up or down. The sound quality is actually really good for what they are and you can adjust the bass and treble from the Home app.A few things I don't like about them.RRP is quite steep so I only bought it during the fathers day sale.One of the three Google devices is a wifi router but it doesn't replace your current home router. This means you have to run two routers which might cause some headaches.You can only control the router through the Google Home App so you can't tinker with its settings like changing its network subnet or port forwarding (not that I've ever needed to).Google got rid of USB-C to power the devices.

Terrible seller/read reviews B4 ordering

I ordered 1 "Brand New" google Nest series 2 Mesh Point and 1 "Brand New" 2 pack Google Nest series 2 router and Mesh Point. Being this seemed to be coming from Wallmart at first glance and had pretty high ratings i honestly didn't really bother to read the reviews as i knew exactly what i was buying. That was my big mistake as i recieved 1 mesh extension and one router in two refurbished boxes and both products were very scratched up so obviosly refurbished and not new. The 2 pack was missing the mesh extension point. I then went back and looked at the recieot in the box thinking maybe I messed up. Not the case, the reciept in the box said "Brand New" next to both items and they were priced as new items. Wallmart of course when i called refunded me all my money no problem but being its an overseas answering service when bringing up this vendor and there shotty practices all they did was apologize. Beware of this vendor sellimg new items and sending you refurbished items in thier place.

The Best Network Mass Router.

This is so far the best router from Google and I am currently using it. I am really recommend it to other users because of these hands downs of this Google Nest. It is very user's friendly,just download the Google app then scan the phone's camera as you follow the Google's step by step commends. If purchase as used,reset it before register to Google. Super easy to set up and use it as the network router or using it as a sub net mass router like me. This Google nest WiFi router is not increasing any speed but great coverage. Just use one if your house is small like the Victorian house and you may add another one if the house goes over 1,7000 square feet. There is a drawback of this router is it is not compatible(backward)to the previous model the Google wifi router. Google WiFi router is compatible to this router but it's not vise versa. And the previous model covers 1,3000 square feet and user can add this router to it's mass network without any problem. I really recommend any of these Google network mass to the home network users. Their network coverage are really,really great even your networking shutdown for any reasons and when it turn on. These Google wifi routers will automatically connect themselves with the best coverage without problem.
