Greenies Canine Dental Dog Treats Original Teenie 170g

I have little dogs and I worry about their dental health (little dogs are more prone to dental decay). I brush my dogs' teeth and I use petzlife oral gel. My vet also reccomended dental chews. It turns out my dogs love greenies! I give one every night. It makes a good reward for teeth brushing because obviously I dont want to give regular treats afterward. I trust my vet so Im hopeful this helps keep their teeth nice and white.Update:I used to give each dog one every night but now Ive cut down to only 2 days a week. I think it may be better because Im not sure the ingredients are that great for them, plus it saves me money! I brush their teeth twice a week and give use oral gel once a week. I figure this is good enough.

One dog will eat the bone as is with no issues, but the other dog because of her underbite needs to have the small bone cut in 4ths for easy access to chewing. I was certain my papillon, who is the world's daintiest little guy and a complete pansy, would never eat anything like this: if given a treat larger than maybe 1", he brings it to me to be broken up (despite having vet-verified perfectly functioning teeth/jaws) because he is afraid of everything including crunching down on something hard. He never in his life chewed anything up and doesn't even like to bite toys.That being said, someone offered him a freebie greenie recently, and - to my great surpise - he chowed down on it. So they did and I have a second best friend his name is Tyrion as Manchester as I was parked out while it was still in there but it was flying from being bet are parked without now. It took me about 15 minutes to KM convince to come over to where I was and it was a long h.

My dog Cleo ate it up. She’s a Rottweiler, and will literally eat ANYTHING (except lettuce haha) She eats ate hers right by my feet. Her smell test after…hmm not bad. Now for Boomer, his breath would make a baby cry. He’s always sleeping, so I joke and say he’s more like a cat. So it has to be like a permanent morning breath for him. He gently takes the Greenie from my hand and walks to his bed to eat it. A few min later he comes to me wagging his tail-so I take that as he liked it. I do the smell test on his breath…it still smells like trash can in the middle of a hot summer day. I suppose Greenies work as well as where your dogs breath starts out and then with continued use, it can get fresher and fresher. But, continued use is the problem for my buddy Boomer. You see, that evening and through the night, he kept on asking me to let him out to go outside because he had diarrhea. I kept the box of Greenies and would give one to Cleo whenever her breath needed it and Boomer wasn’t looking (he’s deaf, so it’s super easy to sneak around him LOL) But, another time since Boomer’s initial tasting, a family member gave him a Greenie (not knowing that he couldn’t eat them) and his poor stomach was just as upset. So Greenies are a win for Cleo’s breath, not so much for Boomer. I’m thinking his stomach is just sensitive to a particular ingredient. I haven’t experimented with anything else for his breath since, but I will eventually. If your dog does not have a sensitive stomach, I’d say give these a try. Maybe try a small box at first, not go crazy with a value size until you know how your dog likes them.

My babies love these so they get an A+ for flavor. However, I am cautious as a pet parent. These are hard chews that ever so slightly soften when eaten. I have one fur baby with sensitive teeth so I am concerned she may hurt her teeth or have breakage eating such a hard treat. I have another senior baby who has a bad habit of swallowing his treats once it breaks off and small enough for him to have in a his mouth. That being said I do think these can present a choking hazard. These would be great in bite sized form or made in a softer version. I don’t really see a difference in their dental heath especially since my dogs eat them a little unconventionally. Greenies don’t have much of a texture on the exterior so I’m not sure if it’s able to scrape plaque.

At a recent vet visit, the doctor said that my 7 year old ShihTzu will need his first dental cleaning this fall. I expressed this to my mother, who offered him a teeny greenies treat, which my sister's dog gets daily. She told me that they are healthy for your dog, and help clean their teeth with chewing. He seemed to enjoy it, but I wasn't sure whether he would eat them as happily at home. (Treats from "Grammy" are special, and he would take and eat it from her even if he didn't like it).I'm happy to report that we are on day 3 of his daily teeny greenies treat, and he LOVES them! Our male mini Schnauzer, Abe, is diabetic, so on a very restricted diet (Hills Science Diet W/D, which he loves!). Since he is getting older and has had 10 teeth removed, we decided to switch from Minties to Greenies as they are softer. Within less than a week of taking these, he was in the weekend Emergency Room as he vomited a few hours after taking one (he was FINE all day) and then we fed him as normal and gave him his shot of insulin. He then threw up again - frightening! Nothing on the list for pancreatitis other than that, therefore, to be on the safe side, we can't use these!5 stars to Chewy as I called and they reversed the charge and asked us to donate the unopened package (it came with 2 packages), which we will do. One reason we stay with Chewy is how good they are to work with. We have been using them for 7 years and they always stand by their products and work with you. We haven't had this happen often, mind you, but the few times something has happened, they have come through. These Greenies are expensive!Of course, I am not 100% sure it was the Greenies - but we watch our dog like a hawk and don't think he ate anything he shouldn't have. He is 6 month diabetic and we are still in the paranoid stage of this complicated disease in a dog!I hope this info helps someone.....
