A 1970s classic that has warmed generations of nature lovers – now with an improved fit and sustainable materials. Weather-resistant outer fabric, soft teddy-fleece lining and practical details make for a winter jacket that is equally at home in the forest as in town. Its water resistant properties can be enhanced with Greenland Wax, which further increases the durability of an already long-lasting jacket. G-1000G-1000 is Fjällräven's own durable and versatile fabric, a proven outdoor classic for any type of adventure at any time of the year. The tightly woven fabric is made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton and has been waxed with Greenland Wax. This combination makes it extremely durable, highly breathable and also wind and water resistent. Supreme Micro LoftThe synthetic fibre in Supreme Micro Loft material was developed together with Fjällräven and is now one of the best synthetic fibres. The combination of thin and thicker silicon-treated microfibres fills the garment or sleeping bag with air, which in turn provides good insulation. The principle is the same as with down padded products.

If you're looking for a retro-stylish, durable, every day jacket for mild winter conditions, this is a great option. I love this jacket's combination of classic, rugged styling, durable construction and utility. To start, it's pretty heavy and not a very warm coat. Due to its weight and bulk I'd hesitate to travel with it and would never use it actively. It's a strictly around town jacket, but it's terrific for that.Lacking traditional down or synthetic insulation (it uses a high pile fleece lining), it's not super warm on its own so you need to layer for extra warmth. Imagine a lined softshell and a traditional winter coat had a baby. The coldest I'd wear this is probably mid-20s (F) with a long sleeve base layer, and mid-weight fleece or wool sweater ... My sweet spot for this jacket is 30-40F. I would not recommend this for deep cold winter weather. The jacket has good weather resistance. The G-1000 shell fabric blocks the wind nicely and has just enough breathability so you don't overheat (standing or walking). It does a good job blocking the snow but I would not walk around in a rain storm. Applying Fjallraven's wax can supposedly add considerable weather resistance (I haven't tried). It's a great looking jacket that is versatile enough to wear to work, on a date, walking around town or doing yard work. And - at least to my eye - it has a timeless style that will look good for decades. As for durability, I haven't owned this jacket long but the materials are substantial and high quality. Everything from the shell fabric to the snaps are burly and should stand up to years of use. It wouldn't shock me if this jacket lasted for decades. The fit is what I would call regular: not trim nor baggy. Don't be fooled by old reviews. Fjallraven redesigned this recently (2019?) and trimmed up the previously baggy fit to something more modern. For reference I'm 6-1, 185lbs, 40" chest, and a medium is perfect. It's got a very utilitarian feature set. It's got 2 (snap) chest pockets, 2 (snap) waist pockets with 2 side-oriented hand warmer pockets beneath. On the inside left there's a small zippered pocket for your phone and a small dump pocket on the right. The hood is functional and well sized, needing no adjustments. There are hem draw cords at the waist to tighten up the hem. The front of the jacket has a sizable two-way main front zipper plus large snaps over top - minor issue: the zipper can be finicky. So long as you don't expect something different out of this jacket than the above, I'd highly recommend it!

I bought this for my birthday about a month ago, and it's exceeded my expectations in every way.I did lots of research on winter jackets, I wanted something that would be good in the mountains, fashionable in the cities, and something that would last a long time. And after looking at dozens of other brands...this is the jacket I landed on.It's warm enough to wear in mid 30s with only a t-shirt on underneath. I've been out in 10 degree weather with a hoodie on and felt perfectly fine. The fabric is smoother and more durable feeling than most jacket fabrics, and the buttons all feel very hard wearing. The zipper is a pain to engage initially, but it's really not a deal breaker. The jacket doesn't have any cuffs around the wrist, and I was worried that it would ... Luckily the button closures around the wrist are adjustable enough to cinch down sufficiently. It's plenty wind proof, and it has stood up to light snow without any trouble. I bought some of the Fjallraven wax and I plan on applying it eventually, but honestly I don't think the wax is necessary unless you live in a very wet-snowy environment. And as a bonus it looks amazing.

I'm really happy with how this coat is turning out. The outer is extremely resilient against scratches and tears from twigs and firewood and so on, and it's properly warm (so far only down to -2°C but I've been just fine sitting still in that with t-shirt, shirt, wool, and coat) - more than enough for general Australian conditions. The Forest Green is a nice colour and is a little deeper than it looks on screen, but that's definitely a good thing. Build quality is excellent, all the buttons and zippers feel extremely robust, and the coat has a nice weight to it. I have a pretty long neck, but the hood fits great - you could wear it over a beanie, but definitely not a helmet.Very reasonably priced, and only took about 3 days to arrive from interstate. I bought this as an everyday winter coat for the notoriously windy and cold Chicago winters. I've only used it a few times, but the canvas kept me dry on an especially chilly, rainy day. I would suggest going a size up from what you would normally buy to allow yourself the ability to layer underneath for colder days. In my estimation, the fleece is better than the down version because of its wicking properties and thermoregulation that you don't get with down. It can be worn w/ just a t-shirt on milder days without causing you to sweat. The pockets are large and easy to access w/ the snap buttons, and I love the one on the inside of the jacket to stash my wallet and iPhone. My only suggestion to improve this coat would be to move the two hand pockets to the diaphragm area and cant them as you see on a classic pea coat. Additionally, I would like to see some sort of hand warmer material used instead of the canvas. All in all, an excellent, stylish coat that I look forward to using for many years to come.
Really great jacket and fit with one drawback. I am 6'0 and 175lbs and the M is a really great fit, not to bulky or puffy with enough room for a couple layers underneath. (MEC lists the jacket as a M but the jacket itself has a L on it, maybe swedish sizing because NA is obese.)The downside to the jacket is the zipper. I noticed a couple reviews mention it and its clear what they mean once you have the jacket. Without the bottom button the zipper opens up and its going to wear and tear quickly, i expect to replace it in a year with a better one.Another bonus is you can wax this jacket to make it more weatherproof with just a hair dryer and some paraffin wax.
I haven't worn this jacket in really cold temps yet as this winter has been rather mild. However this jacket looks and feels great. I wanted something as an alternative to my puffy jackets and this fits the bill. I am about 5'10", 190lbs 40" chest and the large fits well. I can wear a thinner sweatshirt underneath and still have good range of motion. Only bit of an issue is that the sleeves run slightly long - just past the wrist crease. The down feels really nice as well. Overall, would recommend!
This is a decent winter jacket, although I have only used it in mild cooler conditions (5 to -5 °C). It remains to be seen how effective it will be in much colder conditions. I have a fairly average build and I found it fit me well but snug. I can layer a sweater or a light fleece underneath. As per usual, Fjallraven's fabric is built really well, this thing feels tough and abrasion resistant. If the G-1000 fabric used here is anything like the Fjallraven bag I have it will hold up well. Although I like the YKK double zip (e.g. you can zip in both directions for sitting) its a bit finicky and sometimes doesn't catch as smoothly as I'd like. There are so many pockets on this jacket, its borderline unnecessary but it is meant to be field style jacket. Overall, I bought ... I love this jacket. It's comfortable, warm, durable, waterproof. It's hefty but not bulky and fits very well. But.. I returned mine because of the hood. It's excessively large. Even while wearing a thick beanie, I could freely turn my neck from side to side inside the hood. Moreover, Even the amphitheatre size wouldn't bother me if there was some way to manage it with the wind, but with every gust my head was uncovered yet again. Why Fjallraven could you not have added a drawstring to this? Literally on every other FR jacket, there's a drawstring for the hood. This is such a big design flaw that I'm shocked it was a miss on this manufacturer.I am genuinely sad to have to return this jacket. It's almost perfect, but for 350 dollars, the hood was a deal breaker.
Love this coat and it’s very very nice. Extremely well made and just well done. But,,,,, sizing is soooooo off and I’m being very serious here. So please do double check measurements and be precise. Supposedly Fjallraven made changes a couple years back because previously it was way oversized and way to baggy and so they adjusted the coat for more modern taste and look. Meaning they sized and adjusted the measurements to loose the oversized baggy look. Apparently this change worked and everyone was happy according to reviews. But,,,, my experience they might have made adjustments to sizing again because now it’s way to fitted and small. Example I am 5’7 and 160. Meaning they sized and adjusted the measurements to loose the oversized baggy look. Apparently this change worked and everyone was happy according to reviews. But,,,, my experience they might have made adjustments to sizing again because now it’s way to fitted and small. Example I am 5’7 and 160. The coat was tight in the shoulders, tight in the chest and tight at the very bottom to where I couldn’t even sit down with the coat zipped or buttoned up. And I have a very small waist area and small frame. I can understand the possibility of the chest and shoulders area because some people have bigger chest or broad shoulders but I would be somewhat in the normal size area. But this does not account for the super tight area of the end of the coat so tight I couldn’t sit with it buttoned or zipped up. I had ordered a size medium. And trust me I read plenty of reviews on here and other areas of those with same weight and height or around my size order a medium or said medium was perfect. So it’s very possible they changed sizing again. It seriously reminded me od buying clothes made for Asian markets. A large is a medium, a medium a small and so on. Seriously I don’t even think a women with my sizing could fit this. My fiancé who’s 5’4 and 145 couldn’t even fit it on properly. Anyway Moosejaw is out of large so I had to order from elsewhere. Returned coat and waiting on refund. Be sure to double measure and think carefully if sizing because Moosejaw will charge you for returning items whether you need to exchange for sizing or return for refund. Kind of bad service charging for return shipping when it’s a sizing issue and every manufacturer is different. Sure charge return shipping cost if it’s returned for simply change of mind but sizing c’mon. I have a gift card with Moosejaw and after that is used up it’ll probably be my last order. Moosejaw was very nice and perfect customer service. I just don’t like the charging a return shipping charge.
Great looking jacket. Versatile and stylish for daily work and light outdoor adventure.Love the material, I found it more comfortable than other material like down or synthetic. Still able to keep me warm for most easy coast winter.Size runs a little small. I am 6'5, 195. Arcteryx L fits me perfectly. Need XL from Fjallraven,
