Able to do things that I couldn’t do before!

I purchased the G8 several weeks ago and I am so glad that I did. Now I am finally able to polish parts of my car that a 6 inch pad was too large to do. I no longer have to polish certain areas by hand. I am almost sorry that I waited so long to purchase the G8. I also purchased a G21 and I love the fact that the power cords are interchangeable. When I have to hit a specific area with the G8, after using my G21, I just snap the same power cord into the back of the unit and keep going without missing a beat!

I bought the g8 kit with microfiber towels pads, compound and best in show wax. My wife has a 2000 white 4Runner . I used the correcting pad and complete compound to start, went behind with compound and finishing pad. Finished with best in show wax . I’m pretty sure the paint didn’t look this good when it was new. The g8 is powerful when you need and just as delicate when you need that . Griots didn’t just hit a home run with this unit, they hit a Grand Slam . I would recommend to anyone , especially amateurs like me who are afraid to over do it and ruin the paint . Just start slow and get a feel for it. Also Griots has many helpful videos . Happy Polishing.

My first job with the G8 was restoring headlights on my wife's 2014 Subaru Impreza. I purchased the Griots headlight restoration kit from Advance Auto which came with 2 3inch sanding pads. They had a velcro like backing so they fit perfect on my G3 3inch backing plate. The G8 made the job so much easier and quicker than using the pads by hand. Great results.

I had the older model 3 inch. I fired up this bad boy the day I received it. The very first thing I immediately noticed is the longer throw of the pad. Means more area covered. I also noticed right away that the motor is more powerful. I love the variable speed power trigger with lock. A great improvement over the old just on/off switch. The speed selector is perfectly placed and far more visible for adjustments without having to stop to look at selector. The unit is comfortable in the hand with rubber pads all around for great grip. I like the detachable power cord for easy storing. I really like the added resting pad on top for holding the unit upright while resting or applying product to pad. Appears to me that Griot’s upgraded every single feature of the orbital. I love it. Great job Griot’s!

I should have given it a 3...for I'm sending it back due to a malfunctioning switch/motor. It worked well (while is was working) for 8-10 hours...then most times it wouldn't turn on. If it did, it only ran for about 3-4 seconds ...then shut off. If I turned it belly up (pad up) it started and ran. If, while running, I rotated it along its long axis left or right 90 degrees, it stopped. Obviously something inside let loose.WHILE IT DID WORK, I loved it because it easily used 2", 3" and 4" pads. It is light and nimble. It easily got into tight spots. Easy to change back plates. I like the "trigger" speed control. The speed lock button could be placed in a better position...while you are pulling the trigger, the lock button is too low on the side...your thumb can't ... MoreI should have given it a 3...for I'm sending it back due to a malfunctioning switch/motor. Put the lock button on the top...then a perfect machine. Any machine can have a faulty/defective part...disregarding that, it is a fantastic polisher.

Great tool, even better price
22 February 2023

So I bought a chemical guys Torq X, did research and bought that DA. I soon realized i needed a 3" DA for curves, bumpers, and A frames. Got the G8 and I wish I bought the G9 polisher after using the G8. I reach for my griots far more than my torq X don't get me wrong I like my torq X. I just find the G8 to be more powerful, meaning the backing plate continues to rotate with slight preasure. My torq X I have to carful not to apply much pressure, and it stops rotating on non flat surfaces (Irritating). Maybe it's me I am a diy'er. Any way the G8 is comfortable, light, and very efficient. I plan on getting the G9 soon, I like Griots products and they have become my first choice for paint correct, and waxing. Great tool, great company

Have 4 Griots DAs, this one is VERY disappointing
28 August 2020

My wife bought me the new G8 as a gift when they very first came out. Yesterday, I tried it for the first time and WOW what a shocking disappointment. I also own Griots' previous gen 15mm, 8mm, 5mm and new G9 as well an an 8mm from Maxshine, a 21mm from Shurhold and a (three inch 12mm from Maxshine). All of the those other DA's are great. Even on speed 4 and 5, this new G8 stalls HARD under the SLIGHTEST jeweling pressure, making it completely useless (3 pads tested & confirmed). Most interesting is that I recovered the situation with the Maxshine 12mm three inch I had on hand. It has a smaller 550 watt motor but powered strong right through the same job on setting 4. I feel like I've been duped by Griots erroneous marketing videos on this one - very disappointing. ... MoreMy wife bought me the new G8 as a gift when they very first came out. Not Worth the Hype

This unit weighs more than it should. After using it for about 10 minutes you have to put it down and let your hands and arms recover. One of the dumber features is the switch that locks it in the on position. It's on the side of the unit and requires that you pull the trigger with one hand and switch it to the lock position with the other. Very awkward. I'm not sure who thought of this idea but they should have their engineering degree reevaluated.Would I buy it again? Nope.On another note: I'm disappointed that Griots is constantly changing their products. Yes, I get the whole concept of innovation. But, when you have a product the customers are buying, why do you discontinue it? All of their videos say, " This is the best." But 6 months later the product isn't so good and it's discontinued.I've been a big fan of their products for years but my loyalty is shifting.Stick with what your customers want, Griots, or your customers are going to walk away, like me.

Great short throw 3” polisher. Less aggressive than a 3” polisher with a 12mm throw but is great for getting into those tighter spots. The ability to use even smaller backing plates makes it a very versatile tool. The 8mm throw makes this a fantastic sander; I use it frequently for DA wet sanding smaller panels and headlights! The removable power cord is a nice touch especially if you have multiple Griots tools giving you the ability to switch back and forth between tools on the go during correction without having multiple power cords.

I just purchased this and got it in two days. Put it to work today on a nice cherry wood burl bowl while it was still on my lathe. The first hook and loop sanding disc just flew off. I tried again and it did it again. Luckily, I have some sanding pad adapters made for weak hook and loop issues. Those on the machine didn't match those on my sanding discs., but the adapters worked well and I got to sand the bow. The large orbit of the sander made pretty quick work of the chisel marks. It is aggressive so I had to go all the way from 60 grit to 800 grit before I had a good finish. The sander is reasonably quiet and very easy to hold onto. To be perfect, the hook and loop would be better and it would have a dual orbital range; one like it has for fast work and one with a smaller orbit for finer work. After one hour of use I am impressed and pleased that I purchased it and got it so quickly at a reasonable price.
