On mile 2 they were handing out these gels with water. I'd never had this gel or any gel before but because I felt like I didn't have anything left in me, I took one and ****** it down. And OMG what. a. surprise. I had the chocolate and I loved that it tasted like tootsie rolls! But most of all, I appreciated that I actually felt like running almost immediately afterward! There are many nutritional choices on the market currently. Some stay the course while others disappear. Hammer Gel has been around for many years - and for good reason. I ran a half marathon and a tough mudder on the gels. No tummy issues whatsoever! I bought the espresso flavor to try and absolutely LOVE them! I also LOVE recoverite and use it for just more than post workout. And Hammer bars are a staple during the school year (I'm a nursing student at PSU) as my go to snack in during classes. I love Hammer gets. Lately, I have been carrying all my calories when I run marathons and not relying on the Gatorade or sports drink on courses. I am able to have at least 5 (one at start of race and then 4 for every 10k roughly) without experiencing stomach cramps or other GI issues. So Hammer has my vote for sure.I gave 4 out of 5 stars because the variety is good for a newbie to Hammer Gel, but for someone like me who's sold on them, there are some flavors I simply do not like. Are they bad? No but it's a matter of preference. For example, I'm not a fan of apple cinnamon but I don't like that flavor combination in general. Also, the variety pack has a mixture of caffeine and non-caffeinated gels. Again, this is great when trying to figure out what you like ... MoreI love Hammer gets. However, knowing that I prefer caffeine and a certain group of flavors, this variety pack proves a little limiting.

I have used several other brands of gels during training and racing and this is the only brand that i have found that doesn't cause stomach distress. This is best used if after taking a gel, drink some liquid with it. All of the flavors that I have tried, I like. My two favorite flavors are Montana Huckleberry and Nocciola. For me it works best to take one about 30 minutes prior to racing and then every hour take one. For longer races I use this along with a bottle filled with Perpetuem and one filled with Heed or Fizz.

Excellent energy gels

Hammer gels are among my favorites, I also use GU. I like these because they're not sickeningly sweet, and really do help prevent/stave off fatigue. These are a convenient size to put in a saddle pack, and I often bring several, depending on the length of the ride. One thing to notice is caffeine. If this matters to you, be sure to check the caffeine content, as some not-so-obvious flavors (i.e. Tropical) contain it, while several others don't.

Good product, careless shipping

Really RRS? You couldn't find a box this would actually fit in? Instead you jam an oblong shape package into a square box and send it on its way! No, none of the individual gel packs were damaged, but I normally store these on a shelf in their original box, which has been completely distorted by being jammed into a box it really didn't fit in. Grrr. However, I love the product - Hammer Gel is one of the few "fuel" products that doesn't upset my stomach when running. I believe it is because it has a lower sugar content than many of the others. I wish I hadn't just thrown out the box from m previous order.

Low sugar, high carb, goes down easy while working

The chocolate tastes like the center of a chocolate croissant. The other flavors are very nice as well. What I like is that this not only tastes like a great but the sugar is so low you can consume several to hit carb intake goals without spiking your sugar levels. This is very important for people with sugar conditions but also for targeted nutrition in general.General rule of thumb: 60g carbs while cycling, that’s achieved with two of these.

Tastes too good to be energy fuel

I like Hammer products in general, but the Nocciola (aka Hazelnut Chocoloate) flavor is AWESOME. This is hands down the best flavor of any gel. It's a great reward when pushing it on those runs. Really good on Stinger waffles when you need something more solid.In general I like the Hammer Gels the best over other brands, they don't have the after taste of others and can be bought in bulk containers. I use a squeezy bottle for longer runs. For my weekday workouts these are nice because they are lower calorie than other brands, and provide just the right amount of energy for me.

too thick

Liked the sound of the all natural ingredients. Packet opens easily, but that's as far as the good bits of the review go. Tried the Montana flavour - gel was really thick and difficult to swallow and seemed to leave a coating on tongue / palate / teeth. Needed a couple of hundred mls of fluids to wash it down! Some people might like the thick consistency but definitely can't see myself using this again.
