I sing lead in a Classic/Southern Rock band and I bought these to see if they lived up to the hype. I am not a light drummer and I am the kind of drummer that is told to play softer. Problem is I am not usually miked because I play heavy and the problem with monitors is I can't hear them. I have learned to sing on key without hearing myself through th monitors but the downside is I have to really straing to hear myself over the drums and bass and guitar amps that are usually at my sides. We had a back to back gig last weekend (22-23 Feb 2013) and my kit was in the far rear corner of the rectangular stage. Both the bass and rhythm guitar amps were at my 10 and 2 o'clock and the walls behind me directed the sound waves back off the walls and at my ears. Both the bass and rhythm guitar amps were at my 10 and 2 o'clock and the walls behind me directed the sound waves back off the walls and at my ears. When we started playing the first set with these ear plugs in I almost forgot how to sing because I could actually HEAR my voice over the music for the first time. It was as if I was listening to us play through headphones with the volume turned down. I could actually hear the differences in the instruments instead of a wall of noise. Not only did it improve my endurance because I didn't have to strain my voice, I also developed a ton of vocal and breath control because I could actually hear the nuances in my voices over the music. This in turn led to more energy reserves to play the drums. Suddenly all my energy levels went up and my playing actually was quieter because all the sound levels were equalized. I was shocked!!! After playing drums since 1976 (Yes I am that old) this is the FIRST time I have been able to hear everything equally well, including the rhythm guitar while the lead guitarist was soloing. INCREDIBLE!!! I can't say enough about how well these work and the payoff at the end of the night was when I took them out. The conversations from the crowd were more deafining then when I had the earplugs in and was playing! I had to put them back in until the crowd started thinning out during breakdown. The drive home was so quiet I just put on the local news channel and enjoyed the ride home without any ringing or pain in my ears at the end of the night. I plan on buying a pair for my son who plays rhythm guitar in my other band that I play guitar in. If you don't own a pair I highly recommend that you pick them up. They are worth every penny and your ears will thank you when you get old like me. :-)

There is no noticeable discomfort with my Hearos. Unless you don't know what to expect ear plugs to feel like, these guys are no different.I can hear normal conversation with fair clarity when the plugs are in, and I didn't end up leaving my at least a 2 hour metal set with any tennitus. Additional tennitus, I should say...being 30 now and just now starting to use these I have likely suffered some hearing damage. Regardless, I was much more able to hear the two guitarists and distinguish between them during performance than wearing standard ear plugs.Though I don't find it to be any sort of performance setback for the product, they are slightly noticeable when wearing. It's not like anyone came up to me after the show and commented on my ears. All in all, I'm very glad to have bought these and plan on getting some more spare pairs.

Tried them out. They fit OK - a little uncomfortable, but I was willing to put up with that to protect my ears. But when I tried playing my bassoon, well, I sounded to myself like I was playing the cheapest of cheap plastic bassoons, with the cheapest of cheap plastic reeds. I had no idea whether I was playing well or not. They quickly left my ears. If you're in a rock band with monitors giving you feedback for how you sound, I can see these being useful. But if your sound is originating from your body (winds, horns, singing) I'd say keep looking. 3*s because I can see these would work well in that situation, but not a good solution for orchestral or concert band.

I lost my custom fit earplugs several years ago and started using these as a temporary solution. So far I've had no reason to go back. The fidelity is, of course, not that same as the two hundred dollar custom plugs, but for me they are a significant step up from the foam plugs. I usually get about a year of service out of a pair of these, playing several times a week during the summer and a couple of times a month in the winter (I don't mention spring or fall because we don't have them in Wisconsin). Whatever product you use, protect your hearing!! Once it's gone, it's gone!!
I bought these because after years of loud guitar amps, concerts & 3 year stint in the Army. My ears are damaged. According to the audiologist, severe hearing loss. This is kind of like closing the barn door after the horses already got out. I have to do something, for now this is it.At band practice everyone agreed to turn down, it does take the punch out of practice - but somewhere in between maybe, so the Hearos ear protection! Tried them last practice for the first time, they did cut down on the volume as stated, not too much loss of fidelity. Do I like having ear plugs in my ear at practice, NO! Do I like being deaf, NO! So this is a necessity, I don't like it, but not many choices left, if I want to keep playing music in bands. So - it's also your choice. ... MoreI bought these because after years of loud guitar amps, concerts & 3 year stint in the Army. My ears are damaged. This is pay back from all those years of abusing my ears & thinking how cool it was to having ringing in my ears after a loud concert. Stupid kid! Enjoy when your young because you will pay for it later in life, that's a fact!
Not exactly the model I thought I had ordered. Seller did contact me and told me that the manufacturer no longer puts the model description on the packaging. OK, thats fine, and I understand that. However, when I opened the packaging, iteas clear to me that the particular part of the product that allows musicians to hear highs and lows and still protect our hearing is larger than the original items. I had 1 new unopened pair in my stick bag to compare. Im fairly certain that I can find a use for the items I received, but not for music, as they almost completely block ANY sound.
I've always just used old headphones that weren't plugged into anything, or no protection at all, so I decided that it was time to get something a little better, that was built for the purposes that I needed. This definitely fit the bill. Though there may be some fancier options out there, these were comfortable, protected my hearing, and allowed me to hear well enough to play with a band. I played in a gymnasium next to my 100 watt amp, as well as my buddy's 75 watter, and an acoustic drummer, and there was no discomfort from the volume at all. If you're looking for something cheap and simple to get the job done, then you've found it already.
Repeat customer. These are great earplugs to suppress music that gets too loud without muffling the sound like regular earplugs. BTW, they arrived in two days!!!
Just used them at a pretty loud Manchester Orchestra concert last night. They worked in that I suffered no ringing in my ears that night. I felt like my ears had a shield which was great. The fit was pretty good although they were a tad distracting to where. They don't look real dorky like foam plugs. The sound quality suffered little... it was just quieter than w/o earplugs (obviously). It does kind of cut out the highs a bit. I'm no stereo nerd so I can't get more scientific than that.I assume that the $35 earplugs are even better but that's the way it goes. I can't give 5 stars for something that's imperfect but, for the price, pretty darn good. I recommend starting out with some of these. Save your hearing.
In the description, they used the term "filters". These are just cheap plastic plugs. There use to be a product called "sonic noise filters" that actually let air thru to the ear while filtering out harsh frequencies. These are NOT that . Save your money !.
