First off let me just say that a lot of review sites will immediately discredit this chair for backpacking. You can absolutely take this chair backpacking. However, although it is 2 lbs heavier than the Chair One it does take up significantly more room than the chair one when it comes to space. Be sure to expect to carry this on the outside of the backpack and not the inside of it for most cases. The picture online is significantly disproportionately to it's overall diameter/width in comparison to the chair one. Also for weight comparisons all chair one knock offs are heavier than this chair. That being said the only downside to this entire chair is that it is not a replacement for a good car camping chair. The arm rests aren't that significantly beneficial here. ... MoreFirst off let me just say that a lot of review sites will immediately discredit this chair for backpacking. The arm rests aren't that significantly beneficial here. They work best when you have your arms enclosed for reading or something like that. This chair is really designed for when you have to walk or travel a long distance and you want to carry a chair with you. The weight savings between this chair vs a car camping chair are anywhere from 8 to 10 lbs. That being said this chair is great. I often have to backpack to fishing spots and this chair works beautifully for that purpose. You can cast a rod much easier with this chair not having arms, and on top of that I'm able to fit this chair in places other chairs wouldn't work (like on a rocky shore). The only other downside to this chair is that you must, and I mean MUST, buy the chair anchor, 55mm ball feet, and shoulder strap for it. Those are separate expenses you must add to the purchase of the chair and it's a shame that they don't come with a purchase of the chair itself since they are necessary for it to function properly. The upside is the Savanna chair case can fit these accessories inside it, unlike the chair one. Also note that the ball feet and chair anchor add an extra 8 ounces to the weight making it closer to five pounds in the bag, but compared to other knock offs to the chair one it still comes 2 lbs lighter than the leading competitor with all the bells and whistles this chair comes with. This chair goes fantastic with any camping pillow. I especially love it with the Thermarest compressible pillow I use when backpacking. It is also incredibly durable for what it is, however I recommend you clean the ball feet before putting them back in your bag with the rest of the chair to prevent mold and the like. The cup holders are an excellent touch which you have no idea how beneficial they are on a camping trip until you don't have them. All in all I'd give this chair a 4 out of 5, really only because they don't provide the accessories this chair absolutely needs in order to function and force you to buy them separately.

If your objective is to maximize comfort, I highly advise paying the premium for this chair. I'm 6'2 so the extra space was much welcomed. Compared to the Sunset chair you have a higher back and wider seat area. Similarly when compared to Chair 2 (which is also lower to the ground). Assuming you're throwing it in the car or a day pack and hopping on your bike, the premium comfort comes at a negligible added weight of just one pound (If you're looking for a multi-day trekking chair, I'd avoid all the high backs and opt for one of their lightweight series instead. Trying to find a middle ground between weight and comfort is not worth it). You can immediately see how much better it's built compared to the knocks on amazon with a thicker, stronger tubing construction. ... Buying the ground sheet for this chair is highly advisable. All around fantastic chair if you're willing to spend the extra money. I'll definitely be adding more Helinox products to my gear in the future.

Love the size the seat packs down to, and the weight. They are amazing aspects as camp chairs can be so bulky/heavy.However, the seat cuts you off mid thigh (I am 173cm tall) and tips you slightly forward/out so it’s just not comfortable.I bought two chairs, the other one for my 194cm tall husband. He only sat in it once as it’s not at all comfortable for him.I’d suggest sitting in them in the shop and not buying them on line.A little more engineering would solve these problems.Cheers

Okay, this is an excellent chair, but I have one problem. I used it extensively during a recent 2-week remote kayaking/fishing trip to Alaska. It's built very well and it reasonably light-weight and packs into a bag well. It's comfortable, and the tall back on the Savannah is very comfortable. It is solid and relatively easy to set-up and pack away.I do have one complaint on this product, and on most Helinox products in general, and that's the price. This chair is not worth what Helinox wants for it. Is it built well and a nice chair? Yes. Is it that much better than it's competitors? No, absolutely not. Yes, the camo pattern is cool, but it's definitely not worth the price Helinox demands.Helinox makes great products, but I personally think they're too ... I will likely keep this chair, but won't be purchasing another Helinox product due to the ridiculous prices they demand for all of their products.(This isn't a complaint towards Moosejaw or any retailer that sells Helinox products. This is more of a complaint towards Helinox themselves and the excessive prices they want for their products.)
I'm 6.2 and purchased one of each. The Savannah is a well made chair - quality construction, and it is tall. Quite tall. However I didn't find it as comfortable to sit in as the Sunset chair. (Which surprised me given my height, but reading other reviews it appears other tall people found the same). I'm not sure if that has anything to do with where the back support kicks in - but for my height - the Sunset was certainly more comfortable.
On delivery of my new Helinox Savanna chair, my initial impression was this thing is tall! It looked disproportionately high in the back, compared to the seat height and depth. That said, I must admit that it felt fairly comfortable right from the start.Fast forward, and the chair seemed to mold to my body, becoming more comfortable the longer I sat. The high back with integrated pillow sleeve made perfect sense, as well as the soft, dual position, soft arm rests. This chair has become my favorite to date, and I’ve tried several. The overall quality of this chair is evident as soon as you see it, let alone sit in it. From the flawless anodizing and rich color of the oversized aluminum DAC tubing, to the impeccable stitching and fabric choices used for the ‘skin’, this product oozes quality through and through. I just look at it and it makes me smile!Setup and takedown is a snap after you do it a few times, and yes, it even fits back inside of the provided stuff sack easily. All in all, for this guy, the chair is a winner, and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. (FYI, I’m 5’10” tall and weigh approximately 175 lbs).
The perfect chair to rest in after a long hike! Easy set up, not too heavy, the head rest is one of the best too! The coyote tan colour gives off very tactical vibes, especially with the black DAC aluminum frame. The cup holders can easily hold any sized can, and even a 20oz yeti rambler. I’d recommend using the helinox plastic cup holder add on if you want a more stable platform for your cup.
I bought 3 Nemo Stargaze chairs, and within a week one of them tore due to the back support rods breaking through the fabric. I returned the Nemo and bought the Savanna chair. It is very light, packs easily into the provided bag. It is comfortable - but does not feel as sturdy as the Nemo, nor is it quite as comfortable. The legs of the Savannah splay outwards on loose ground. I see on amazon you can buy a special matt to prevent this from happening - but it seems crazy to spend additional money to accommodate for a design flaw. I will keep the Savannah, but I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed in this purchase given the price tag.
I ordered the Helinox Savanna to have on hand for camping and backyard hangs by the fire pit. Since setting it up for a quick test, it has replaced my existing living room chair. With pockets on both arms, I can keep my beverage close at hand, and keep the Rokumote (Roku Remote) from getting lost. I added an airplane pillow to the headrest, which is kept in place with the headrest flap. At 6'3" I find the chair to be a great fit, I went with the Savannah for this reason, also when either kid wants to sit in my lap, the 320# weight rating provides peace of mind.On the one occasion that I took it to the park, it disassembled quickly, the frame rolled up in the chair and fit just perfectly in my bag. One of of the coolest features is holding the hub just so and watching the frame build itself, as if by magic. The frame is held together with shock cord and the poles almost self assemble. Soon, I will move the chair to the back yard, where I know it will work just as well around the fire. I will probably opt in for the ball feet at some point, they look like a very cool add on and will ensure that I can sit anywhere and not worry about sinking into soft ground.
I have a bad back and thought this would be a comfortable chair to sit in, but I was wrong. The posture of this chair puts a lot of pressure in the lumbar area. It isn’t uncomfortable in the coaxial area or in the legs. I did think the arm blustering would cradle the arms if you tucked them in but it just flaps there and actually digs into my arms. Seems like the design could have done without that whole section and been lighter and more comfortable there as well. Very disappointed with the premium price that lacks comfort and having to foot the bill for returns but better than eating that cost of a chair I would never use.

It has a high profile, taller back and wider seat, but remains surprisingly light and packable. The comfort is obvious, but advanced design and innovative technologies set it apart. The frame, made from a proprietary DAC Aluminum alloy, is light durable and supportive. Its shock-corded sections come together easily for fast, intuitive set-up, and fold up small for compact travel. The ergonomic seat wraps your body and supports your back for exceptional comfort, mesh panels ventilate, and an integrated cup holder keeps hydration at hand. Compact when packed, its easily carried anywhere – beach, park, festival, campground – you need a chair.
