I already owned this jacket and loved it so much I bought one on sale for my sister who is still carrying 'heavy stuff' for hiking and backpacking and needed an assist lightening her laod. I shaved a pound off of my base pack weight by carrying the Helium jacket and rain pants vs. my heavier options. Since I carry rain gear as safety gear o on all of my hiking and backpacking trips this reduced that 'dead weight' while providing gore-tex protection. (11.4 oz for jacket and pants together). These also function as wind pants and upper/lower extra layers. The new colors are very attractive, my own set was grey upper/lower and a hiking buddy did compare me to the 'Michelin Man' when we were on top of a windy mountain with the wind whipping and puffing out my grey ... MoreI already owned this jacket and loved it so much I bought one on sale for my sister who is still carrying 'heavy stuff' for hiking and backpacking and needed an assist lightening her laod. Pro tip: get a non-grey jacket.I do have a different slightly heavier rain jacket with pit zips that I bring when I know there is rain in the forecast and expect to spend some significant time hiking in it, since that is pretty key for ventilation to prevent sweating as you hike. For the other 90% of my hikes I carry this one.It has performed well hiking in rain (that forecast is not always perfect so I've done this a number of time). It is waterproof, my issue is more with sweating inside it and getting damp that way. Still, perfect way to carry 'safety' gear and minimize weight.

Everything this jacket is advertised to do it does. It does a decent job of keeping drizzle out and transporting moisture away from your body. The fabric is uniquely textured and has a nice comfortable feel even next to the skin. The cut is tailored somewhere between athletic and causal, and for me this is perfect. It's a great looking garment! The one caveat is that this is not a truly technical piece, it's more suited as travel-ware in your luggage or pack; something for a casual hike or to wear round town in light rain. Without pit zips to dump heat I can imagine I'd get too hot and clammy on extended accents or when carrying a loaded pack. I wouldn't count on it shedding water in a downpour either, but for the price, it's excellent at what it can accomplish. I ... MoreEverything this jacket is advertised to do it does. If you're expecting a serious amount of rain, you will want something else. For more moderate climates/conditions, it's nice..I backpacked in rain for 3 days straight, mostly a persistent light rain, but sometimes pouring. About 4-6 hours into the first day, this jacket had soaked through. It's not a 3 layer $400 jacket, so it performed about as well as expected..It makes a good windbreaker..Small enough to always have in your pack..Love the hood. Miss having hand pockets, but I knew that going in..Sizing is pretty generous, I got it a size or two up so I could use it in all seasons.

This is an excellent lightweight jacket to bring along in case of showers or an unexpected drop in temperatures. Packs very small. It is not intended as a true rain shell. Knowing that, it is an excellent gear addition.
I like the jacket despite it is NOT Goretex kind of waterproof, I wonder how it can claim itself to be waterproof. But for just in case, drizzle, uncertain weather, this is a greatly packable jacket as it's so soft and thin. I also like it being less "noisy" then the true Gore tex kind of material although these days Gore tex does get to be softer and thinner also. I bought it when it was full prize, it's not worth getting it at Goretex-like prize, maybe this is the time to get it, at 50% off.
It does the job as a water resistant shell. But the fit is a little boxy and short and the pocket situation is atrocious. There is one small pocket on the left side of the chest so not easy to carry your phone. It's just overall meh. The green color is nice though.
Excellent ultra light rain jacket for backpacking and camping. I got the XL version with no under arm zippers (160lbs, 5"7) broad shoulders. I found it to be breathable and have no issue without the extra zippers. If that is important to you, there are other versions of this jacket available but more $$$. It fits roomy so I can add warmer layers under when needed. The fit is sized well. I could have fit the Large but prefer the extra space. I have used it on one trip so far on a canoe trip and it help up perfectly. I stayed dry in the rain. I plan to take it on a 7 day hike next. Its so light, and folds into a tiny pouch. You hardly know it is there.
It is super lightweight and packs very small (which is why I got it). The lack of handpockets don't bother me too much because I use this as a quick layer when needed only.It is waterproof (tested it in a torrential summer downpour).I got this on clearance. I am still planning to buy a proper gore-tex heavier jacket, but couldn't leave this one behind for the price and it can't be beat for travelling
I purchased this rain coat for a 16 day Grand Canyon rafting trip, going 226 miles through monsoon season and epic rapids. This coat is durable, compact and high quality rain jacket that is true to size. Highly recommended this rain coat, worth every penny
Up updating my gear little by little to ultalight. This rain jacket was everything it was advertised as, breathable, lightweight at 6 oz, burgundy color was perfect, size small was roomy enough to fit a down jacket & even a fleece layer. The cons are no pockets, no velcro at the wrists and the biggy was, reviews stated it got soaked when wet. That's because you need to reapply the sealant coating from time to time. So I decided to go with Lightheart's rainjacket, also ~6 oz, and is a non-breathable that's really waterproof. It has zippers underneath the arms for ventilation, it also has 2 small pockets and velcro tabs at the wrist. I haven't used it yet, but at this point it checked all my boxes. As long as you know the difference, this jacket might work for you. It ... MoreUp updating my gear little by little to ultalight.
