The HEMA HX2 really has not met my expectations for a sat nav / off-road GPS unit worth $750RRP Even if you get it for $650 itās a complete letdown. The lag in start up is completely unacceptable. Weāre talking 38 seconds with the latest update before you get to the main menu and before you have to do everything Iāve listed below to get the application/s going. And then on start up sometimes the unit wouldnāt even turn on with ignition switched on. Then sometimes it would start up automatically despite being set to turn on and off with ignition in settings. It lagged by about 7 seconds when pressing a menu button while in navigation mode before it would open a menu up. It reminded me of my first Navman in 2005.The on road maps are horrible, the curser for car ...Ā MoreThe HEMA HX2 really has not met my expectations for a sat nav / off-road GPS unit worth $750RRP Even if you get it for $650 itās a complete letdown. The lag in start up is completely unacceptable. It lagged by about 7 seconds when pressing a menu button while in navigation mode before it would open a menu up. It reminded me of my first Navman in 2005.The on road maps are horrible, the curser for car position is in the middle of the screen not at the bottom like Google maps or almost any other GPS. The angle of view is horrible even after adjusting it in settings. Seems like youāre looking across a map not down on it. Every time I start on road maps it shows your current position is in Canberra despite being in SA. Then you have to hit the arrow icon every trip to recenter the map to your location, then you have to use the + icon to zoom into your street location because every time you start it is so far zoomed out it makes a country town of 10,000 people look like a small cluster of houses. It did not announce speed/red light cameras that were facing our car at intersections. That was hugely disappointing and the GPS speed was 1.5km slower than all other GPS units that I have used including my iPhone 12. The GPS speed also fluctuated constantly from 106-115 when I was on cruise control 110 on a flat country road. There was surprisingly no spoken street names, I had spoken street names on a sat nav I previously bought in 2008! The HX2 simply says turn left in 300 meters despite other turn offs being before that it makes it difficult like it was in 2005 to judge where to turn. The over speed warning would not trigger until Its too late at 15-25km over the speed limit. Then it would be too sensitive as Iām slowing down to a new speed zone by beeping constantly until I had slowed reach the exact speed as signposted.Off road maps were not as good as I expected. I had Google maps direct me to a beach in SA that the Hema didnāt even know there was roads for. There is no night time dimming mode for off-road maps and this is disappointing as I want to use off-road maps the most. But i couldnāt use it at night without going back to the android settings to turn the brightness down. When launching off-road maps you also have to press the arrow icon button to centre your position then press the + button again to zoom in same as on road maps. This should be automatic and set as I left the unit before it was powered off.Waypoints are not accepted directly through the GPS for example if navigating to a supermarket and you want to stop past a liquor store you canāt add it as a stop. You have to restart a new route and then re route to the supermarket. The first big warning on the included quick start printed sheet states āDO NOT LEAVE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT, remove and store when parked or when not in useā. Thatās going to be inconvenient. This is Australia. The unit shut down and restarted by itself while driving a few times and acted very glitchy. Understandable being a new product and waiting for bug fixes in further updates but didnāt feel reassuring that Iād put my $650 to good use. I note HEMA isnāt fast at fixing stuff. Just look at the reviews for their apps.Iāve been looking forward to this product for a long time but am so disappointed. If youāve ever used a Navman or Tom Tom or even Google maps to get around youāre going to dislike the Hema HX2 experience.Iāll be returning mine and maybe just downloading their off-road map for $99.This review is for people like myself who are wanting to know what itās really like to use before parting with a large amount of money. $750RRP Is way overpriced for a unit this poorly executed.

Great vector maps, really, but the GUI of the unit itself (some version of Android) is glacially slow to the point of uselessness. Keystrokes take seconds each and eventually catch up to your typing, sort of. Power-up times are a top opportunity to go get coffee, and the general snappiness of the unit is snappiless. It's basically unusable - even with all software updates applied. The suction cup mount is also a terribly dinky affair which wobbles a lot before the suction cap loses suction - even on pristine glass. Overall it was a bad experience. A shame, because those vector maps were great.

1 - you have to reset the map screen every time, the system should retain your last settings and return to these on start up.2 - it is impossible to set and maintain the correct brightness level3 - the glass is far too reflective, I cannot mount the unit in the same place that I had my HX-1 mounted for the past 5 years, the light reflection from the same angle turns the unit face into a mirror4 - publish a better user's guide, the current one is as much use as an ash tray on a motor bike. The 'Hema University' does not cover everyday user's needs

I've had it about a week. Updated software and have done a couple of trips. Firstly, there's bugger all instructions. When trying to work it out its thrown errors every time I try to put in a destination. I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong cause when you go to HEMA.com there's nothing on the hx2... also, there's stuff in the instructions that's plain wrong, and misleading. Like volume control and navigation page. So no downloading or sharing stuff. No idea how to use functions. In short, it's not worth the money, and don't bother getting it till they take the time to explain how to use it and make it's claimed online features work
I bought this in March and I have been travelling around the North West of WA since. I am very disappointed, both in the product and Hema for their support. The device is very slow and non responsive. It freezes 3 times a day, and the maps are totally out dated. I have to rely on google maps on car play which only works with reception. The hx2 shows tracks which were closed years prior, that are completely revegetated and gated off. The tracks that do exist are not on the maps at all. The hema app of the phone runs better than this dedicated device! Hemaās response, return it to where you bought it. They don't care, why should I or you! Save your time, frustration and money.
I bought this unit middle of April, from the get go it was crap. Battery life was terrible, glitched constantly, kept turning it's self off and then back on whilst driving which is great for a GPS unit giving directions..... Overall a waste of money. Decided to give it a go on one more trip thinking it just had a bad time on the first trip, surprise failed again.Called supercheap to organise a refund, was advised that because it's been over 30 days since purchase (45 days so only 15 days) that it's now HEMAs problem and I now have to call and speak with them and confirm its a technical problem.Terrible customer service from Supercheap, I purchased the product from your store but now I have to do the ring around to fix a broken product that you sell. I had it for 27 days and then it wouldn't display anything on the screen. The backlit was on and all black pixels. Charged up further and then decided randomly that it would work. You can't rely on this in the Bush. As previous review mentioned, had several reboots when in use - about once a week. There are other firmware bugs such as getting into a softwood situation when going into the reverse camera menu whereby you need to hold power down to turn off and on again. Slow and laggy UI. Lots of fiddling in menus to address niggles such as navigation angle and speed notifications. The brightness on the display is not great and prone to glare so you need to get the screen hood accessory as a must. This unit has been a huge let down. Slow on start up, constantly freezing and navigates using ghost roads. There are next to no instructions. Tried looking to see how to get support from hema and I need to send them some sort of āticketā for them to get back to me. The claims of sharing trips with friends and family through the included cloud are bogus or I just canāt find how to do this, as too is finding other peoples routes. Like previous reviews, I can only assume youāll need another add on for this even though the asking price is hefty. I bought this unit a month ago through anacondas ebay store. Warranty is possible only through Hema, after 10 days. Had major issues with charging - kept clitching wouldnāt hold a charge. Bcf have no liberty to give warranty. All they do is post off to factory - about a one month turn around. I have a trip very soon, invonvenient that bcf canāt help any more than post off and wait for return. $700 product - lot of money to have invested into this product. I donāt think Iāllbuy from BCf in a hurry again - I might as well buy online
I bought this on 19/12/21 and now it will not charge. Tried the cigarette lighter socket and USB socket in the car. No luck but charged my phone. Tried charging it at the power point inside with my phone charger which I know works and still no luck. 1 month after warranty runs out. not good advertisement of your product. I was reasonably happy with it prior to this.
