I did not buy the separate application kit (itās seriously not necessary) as I simply mixed the two bottles provided in a glass jug. They mix to create a gel-like colour, which is very easily applied by hand using the gloves provided (I had no issue with the gloves, they were great).I was delighted to find the gel super spreadable but non-dripping. I was wearing a merino wool dress and didnāt even need to protect my shoulders with a towel. The gel spread beautifully through my roots and down my hair, and no dripping at all if you apply it in appropriate amounts to each section of your hair.The processing time is only 40 minutes (Desert Shadow would take me 4-6 hours to ensure grey coverage) and it rinses out cleanly without dying the skin.I will say, donāt use the Herbatint intense conditioner provided - the ingredients are comedogenic and would cause a reaction. I simply rinsed my hair a few times with water, then did a final white vinegar (diluted in water) rinse for softness.The hair feels coarse under water - donāt let this deter you - the vinegar changes this completely and one you blow-dry, the softness and shine from this colour will blow you away. The vinegar is honestly critical, I highly recommend this as a final step.The colour (Dark Blonde, 6N) is a beautiful neutral brown on me, and my grey hairs were tinted with the prettiest buttery golden highlights. I do think the range probably runs dark based on other reviews, so I opted for the dark blonde in the first instance instead of any of the chestnut/darker brown shades. Itās absolutely gorgeous colour, with 100% grey coverage. Looks completely neutral (no red tint) and naturally glossy - like a childās gorgeous varied, sun kissed hair colour.I wonāt be without this and even with my grey roots regrowing every 3-4 weeks, given how easy this is to apply, Iām going to make a habit of using it like a hair mask for 40 minutes every few weeks to keep my colour fresh and strands nourished. The price is fabulous too!Itās worth noting, I have shoulder length, very thick hair and I used one box for a single application, and it was more than enough. I can see how people make this last up to two applications!
