The one feature this unit lacks is the ability to import an SSL certificate. You're stuck with the built-in self-signed certificate so you get a browser error every time you connect to web interface via SSL. I had a lot of problems getting a monitor to work with it. I could not get the VGA port to work at all (possibly faulty?) but the HDMI port worked with an HDMI monitor. It did not like adapters of any sort (i.e. DVI to HDMI).

I've accumulated different cameras from different manufacturers for years assuming they would be easy to install on IP NVRs and for the most part, they were until I got some newer 4K cameras and then it became a chore. Three different NVR's later I find one that works with all my cameras. The only real hassle, if I can call it that, was to have to go to the router as I hooked up each camera to see what address it was set to. Once I got it to recognize the cameras, the included software made it easy to get them all working. I have a simple 5 camera, 24hr recorded, home setup without all the motion detection or other options set, so it was pretty easy to get up and running. It works.

I installed a 6 TB seagate surveillance drive for $200 and seems to be recording well. The issue I see is that Hik-Connect live view is jumpy on HD. The nvr is running on a cat 6 Ethernet wire on a 1 gigabit internet connection so I am somewhat perplexed as to the hit or miss connection through Hik-Connect on an iPad and a Samsung phone. The nvr firmware was upgraded to latest as was the 8 mp Hikvision turret camera. Will update once the system is fully tuned in.

I ran into several challenges while installing mine, but I was able to find answers online for everything I encountered except one. I had several requirements for an NVR: 1. Power Over Ethernet (POE) - DONE! 2. Let me install my own HDDs - DONE! 3. Support the cheap ONVIF cameras found on Chinese web sites - DONE! 4. Let me view my cameras and playback recordings on mobile devices - DONE! 5. Let me view my cameras and playback recordings in a web browser - DONE! 6. Support 24/7 recording of at least 3 cameras at full 1080p - DONE! Overall this is a very good product which meets my needs perfectly. I did really struggle with viewing output from HDMI vs. RGB/VGA, but this was my TV's fault. Here's what happened: I changed the NVR's HDMI output resolution to 4k/60Hz and the picture on the TV went blank. I waited for the NVR to reset the picture to the previous setting, but the picture never came back so I was stuck. I tried an old monitor with VGA input so I hooked that up and was able to see the output, but the mouse wasn't showing up and the keyboard didn't have any effect. After A LOT of swapping outputs, rebooting, and trying various settings, I gave up. The next morning I came downstairs and turned on the TV and the HDMI was working fine. So what did I learn? 1. If you change resolution and lose the HDMI, cycle the TV power. 2. The NVR lets you choose which display includes the mouse/keyboard - this sucks! The control should just work on both outputs. 3. The NVR lets you configure the VGA/HDMI outputs differently, but the UI for this is awful. 4. The password and user management is unnecessarily complex and needs some love. 5. The NVR shows my empty camera slots in a lot of places. There should be 1 place for this (Add Cameras). All other places should hide empty camera slots.
Purchase this NVR along with 6 x 4MP ColorVu cameras. Great product and the ColorVu cameras provide an exceptional night image.
Great customer service from B & H's Surveillence Dept, very knowledgeable guys.This product surpassed my expectations, and the H.265+ compression technology is phenomenal.A bit cumbersome to set up since it's more of a professional line, but it's not rocket science.
I bought this model to upgrade from my DS-7608NI-E2/8P. This one has more storage compacity and uses the latest software/firmware. I had no problem setting this one up. The wizard work well for me. The menus were in a different format older NVR but I was able to figure them out with no problem.
Tony is an absolute gentleman, its one thing to buy this stuff, its nice having someone there to ask questions after the purchase. Definitely recommend DIY its a business that operates with integrity and service. Thanks for your help Tony.
I have purchased 3 of these for my stores. They are easy to set up and view in store. The remote viewing app IVMS-4200 needs improvement. I have other remote viewing apps and they work much better. It takes forever to come up and glitches
