I have been giving my cat, Stormy, Science Diet dry cat food since she was a kitten. She was on the Indoor Kitten formula then the Indoor Adult formula for ages 1-6. I noticed she started looking a little round around the hips, more pear-shaped if we’re being technical (especially when she sat down!) and I thought we may need to do something to get her back in shape. I saw this bag next to her Adult formula at PetSmart. I noticed that this Perfect Weight formula was the same Chicken flavor and same size kibble as her other food so the transition was non-existent. The biggest difference was that it claimed to help with safe and effective weight loss in 10 weeks. It has worked! She’s maintained a much ‘slimmer’ figure and no longer has a belly swinging to and fro when ... MoreI have been giving my cat, Stormy, Science Diet dry cat food since she was a kitten. I was feeding my cat Iams, however I noticed he was starting to gain weight so I looked for a better alternative. I bought a small bag of this food and mixed it with his old food so the change would't upset his stomach. He instantly loved this food which was exciting since he is a picky eater. I feed him the recommended serving size and in the last 6 months he hasn't gained any weight but he hasn't lost any either. As a senior cat that has never been active, that isn't much of a surprise. I noticed that he did begin mewing for food more frequently and I consulted his vet to make sure I was giving him the right serving. She agreed that I was but I needed to portion it differently. I divide the daily amount into a little bit of kibble in his bowl every few hours ... MoreI was feeding my cat Iams, however I noticed he was starting to gain weight so I looked for a better alternative. I divide the daily amount into a little bit of kibble in his bowl every few hours throughout the day and he doesn't act like I am starving him now. I wish the food made him feel fuller for longer, however it has good ingredients and he has had good results with it so far. I will continue to feed him this food unless the vet determines I should change to a veterinary diet for him. It is expensive compared to many other foods, but I think it is worth the price.

I tried Hill's Science Sensitive Stomach for my otherwise healthy, active cat based on its reputation with shelters. He promptly gained a pound he didn't need! So, I switched to the Perfect Weight dry food, and after 5 months, he had not lost a single ounce. I contacted Hill's Science and got a courteous but unhelpful reply, so I did my own research. Turns out, this particular cat food is loaded with fillers: brewers rice, corn gluten, wheat gluten. Cats have a short digestive tract, and that stuff doesn't do them any favors. As soon as I began to phase him onto to a different food, his high energy level returned, and he began to slim down within a week. It's not enough for a cat to like the taste of their food, read the fine print and see what's in it!

My cat usually eats every type of food. She was eating the Royal Canin Light food and I purchased this one to mix it up a bit. Unfortunately, she won't eat it and would rather go hungry which is very strange as she usually eats everything and then tries to steal my other cat's food too. If you do try, I would suggest buying the smallest size first. I'm stuck with a big 3.1kg bag. I'll be purchasing the Royal Canin product again instead....
My cat has enjoyed Science Diet Perfect Weight for several years. However, starting in 2020 and continuing this year every bag I purchase has had different size kibble which has become concerning as the kibble size was one of the reasons I tried Perfect Weight and switched. The kibble used to be a larger flat, disc-like size that could be easily crunched by the cat. Over the last year, ongoing, every Perfect Weight bag I buy ...the kibble size has become smaller, rounder, thicker and harder, not the original flatter disc shaped! It is difficult for the cat to chew; he used to love to crunch the kibble. The first thought is the manufacturing plant is running the incorrect kibble size for this product as you have so many different dry foods and kibble sizes. It is difficult for the cat to chew; he used to love to crunch the kibble. The first thought is the manufacturing plant is running the incorrect kibble size for this product as you have so many different dry foods and kibble sizes. You had a good product, but consistency in kibble size is important to cats. I hope you go back to the larger, flat disc shape or review quality control. The inconsistency in Perfect Weight kibble shapes bag to bag is disappointing. A suggestion for consideration... to have part of the dry food bag in clear plastic as some manufacturers' do.. so the kibble size can be seen thru the bag before a customer purchases the product. Too much inconsistency.
Both of my cats are overweight, one at 17 instead of 12 lbs, and the other 12 instead of 9 lbs. The vet recommended Hills prescription metabolic but neither cat will eat it even starting at 3 to 1 parts reg to metabolic; even bought a bottle of fish oil that the vet suggested to use because both have dandruff. I then tried the Hills perfect weight I found at TSC (vet does not carry it) and both are now eating it without being mixed with their old regular dry food.Next step is to try adding the fish oil to it.
I'm not sure if my 5 are actually losing weight, but they really like this food. During the food shortage I couldn't get their regular canned food. I was forced to try something new. Everything made them sick. I decided to go to dry food which ofcourse made them chubby. No way trying canned again so I'm gradually switching to this. By next month we'll be at 100% and I'll be able to see if they are losing weight.
All 3 of my cats have taken well to this food. My overweight boy has slimmed down from a combination of this food, more play, and calorie counting. Everybody saying their pets gained weight or didn't lose is probably either not feeding the correct amount or their animal has an underlying health issue causing weight gain. People are quick to judge the ingredient list and carbohydrate content but totally disregard the low calorie count. Corn gluten isn't making your cat fat. Feeding too many calories can make it hard for your cat to reach their ideal body weight. This food has 315 kcal per cup which is substantially less than a lot of other dry foods that average around 500 kcal per cup. Play with your cat more and pay attention to the calories you're giving them. ... MoreAll 3 of my cats have taken well to this food. This food is a great tool you just need to know how to use it. It won't do the work for you.
We have two fussy calico cats but they lose their minds whenever I open a tin of the Perfect Weight wet food. Both meow, go in circles and run to their dishes when I finally serve it to them. There isn't a scrap of anything left in either dish and I swear they're licking the glaze off the ceramic too! They're mainly on Hill's science diet kibble and get the wet as a treat once a day. We offer them the savoury turkey wet as well, which they eat, but do no react in the same way to it as the Perfect Weight. I recommended this blend to a coworker who was having some issues with his cat and it's diet. His cat also went crazy for this food. I only wish it was sold in a larger tin and save us a bit money. The small tins are only slightly less than the larger tins now up ... MoreWe have two fussy calico cats but they lose their minds whenever I open a tin of the Perfect Weight wet food. My cats have had Hills Science Diet all their life (4 years), kitten, indoor 1-7, and the grain free. There’s never been a problem transitioning to the next one. I ordered the Perfect weight because my male has gained weight the last 6 months. He will not even try the PW. His female litter mate was very vocal about it being mixed with the other. She would not eat the mixed. I tried putting the old in one bowl and the new in another and they haven’t touched the new. There’s something about the smell they don’t care for? Fortunately the neighborhood cats that are always hungry will eat it, so it’s not going to waste.
