The Hisense U7 series TVs are really the best bang for you buck TVs out there. i also bought the successor to this TV, the U7H and absolutely love it. The only downside to this TV is that if you turn off the built in mic on the TV via the switch on the front, four bright yellow LEDs turn on. This is probably too encourage you to leave the mic on, but a small piece of electrical tape fixes that issue. Other than that, there are basically no downsides to this TV. i also really like the feel of the remote. Highly recommended.

I purchased this TV based upon the reviews and for the VA panel and was disappointed when further researched showed it was not. With that said, and it might be a panel lottery type tv (where some are far better than others) as I am not experiencing the awful flashlight/halo/ghosting problems described by some other reviewers. In fact, after playing around with the settings, which is essential with this tv, I have very good black levels with minimal light disturbance. Semi lit rooms are the absolute best for this TV although it does not preform bad in the dark as demonstrated by the photos included from the movie Gravity. Opening the window shades and allowing the sun to shine in directly at the unit reveals that it gets bright and does an extremely good job at fighting/overpowering glare. Motion is good and it does a decent job of up-scaling lower end content. The football photo included is from a low quality 720p broadcast and the colors and black levels are proper including the black around the ESPN at the bottom of the screen without any bleed. This TV has good viewing angels for a larger room which would accommodate a unit of this size. HDMI 2.1 with 120hz and IPS panel which manages good black levels is actually a plus for gaming and this tv recognizes and handles the PS5 perfectly. The 75U7G handles sound differently than the smaller size versions. It has rear facing speakers on the back panel. If wall mounted there is an audio setting to enable wall mounted speaker mode that tries to reflect the sound and create a virtual sound stage. As far as TV speakers go they are fine to above average but I cannot imagine anyone buying a tv this large at this price point and settling for built in tv speaker sound which lowers the experience significantly than what you would achieve wit even a modest soundbar. It should also be noted the design of the entire back panel is different on the 75U7G than the smaller versions. I am not a fan of the misinformation which nearly caused me to return the unit. However, getting past that, for the right price, the 75U7G still checks a lot of boxes and might actually be a better gaming tv with faster response time than if it did have a VA panel. I cannot stress enough how important settings are to this tv which includes making sure you are in the right mode as settings in one mode tend to differ from the same settings in another. Also make sure when switching content, especially between SDR and HDR material that the unit reverts back to the proper settings for each type of content. This brand does not display a popup to notify the viewer if it is playing HDR10 content so the user must be aware and modify the picture settings accordingly. In my experience, local dimming must be enabled and on high. Once dialed in the picture quality, considering it has the strengths and weaknesses of IPS, is extremely good for the money if you catch the 75U7G at its lowest price. I do not know that I have seen an IPS panel handle black levels better than this one and I am certain I have not at this price range. This TV is not an OLED and does not try to be. This manufacturer puts a clear emphasis on brightness and color which lead to its strengths and weaknesses as a result. Once you get it properly configured it does provide a very good picture that seems to be unrivaled considering current pandemic prices for its closest competitors. If some of the more advanced next generation and gaming features are not a concern to you, and depending on the price difference at the time buyers might find themselves happier with the 75U6G which is currently the same price and therefore not worthwhile but can go for significantly less.

I would not consider myself an expert videophile but an intermediate videophile and so far I am actually impressed with the video quality this tv displays. I read several reviews for this tv before purchasing it and it was actually my second choice. I had planned on purchasing a more expensive tv but ultimately settled for this one after examining all the features and functions as well as dollar for value since it was about $800 cheaper than my first choice. Even at the $1199 price I got it for with black Friday sales I am pleased with all the features packed inside it. I won't go through all the specs since you can read those here online. But dollar for value of the features is why I picked this tv. Set up out of the box: This tv is heavy. At 75" don't even attempt to move or set it up by yourself. If you don't feel like you could take on the task of moving it and setting it up out of the box I would recommend getting it professionally moved and set up. Since I have moved and set up several tvs in the 50" - 75" range myself I didn't feel to nervous about having me and my wife set it up ourselves. I installed a wall mount and my wife helped me to set it in the mount. And yes, again it is heavy and just the size alone is more intimidating to handle if your not used to it. So please get help or have someone professionally install it for you. Picture quality is great. There are some reviews about blooming effect, muddy colors and motion jitter. As far as blooming this tv has a full array backlit panel and there is some blooming effect with bright whites right againt a solid black background but what do you expect? The blooming is hardly even noticeable in my opinion and only noticeable when watching content that I would consider store display video or testing video content. So during regular video streaming the blooming is not even noticeable in my opinion. If a little amount of blooming bothers you than spend a couple thousand more for an OLED to take care of that problem. Muddy picture colors is nothing even close to my 5 year old 65" curved screen 4k Samsung tv I replaced it with. I have yet to notice any muddy or soapy blacks. The blacks are like they should be, black. Even in underwater scenes I didn't even notice muddy water coloration. There is a little bit of muddy color when there is a light source being used in a movie or show such as a lamp or lantern in a dark room or cave but again it's not that bad and can be expected a little. There is some motion jitter in tv shows and movies but very slight. Since I have only had the tv for a couple weeks now I still have not played with the settings much to work that out yet. But out of the box I would rate motion jitter about 1 out of 10 with 1 being very little and noticeable and 0 being none at all. So hopefully with a little tweeking I can get that to 0. As for sports like football games I did not notice any motion jitter at all. I did turn off all motion settings as recommended in some reviews so I will probably go back and play with those settings later once I get chance. But for now I barely notice motion jitter. The colors and picture seems beautiful with the settings right out of the box. I haven't touched the contrast or brightness settings at all. I did turn on the auto picture brightness so depending on if my room is dark or bright the tv automatically adjusts brightness levels and so far I am pleased and have not got any adjustment headaches or sickness from adjusting to the larger size. From what I read the 55" & 65" have a VA panel and the 75" has an IPS panel. Again I'm not an expert videophile but I am very pleased with the panel. I sit about 9' - 10' from the screen at about a 30 degree angle and I have no issues so far. Black uniformity seems to be great and maybe that's because it has the full array back lighting to help but blacks looks great and uniform across the screen. Viewing angles are great. I can stand at a 90 degree angle and still see the picture just fine with very little degrading. When the tv is off there is light glare from the room lights and just slightly when watching content on tv with the lights up bright but I have yet to find a tv that will cut out light glare totally. Watching shows in the dark with a slight light glow from an led light I hardly notice any glare at all. TV sound: This tv sounds great by itself. In fact, much better than I anticipated. It has the Dolby Atmos feature and I admit it does sound good alone. I give it 8/10 as far as factory tv sound goes which is impressive to me. I don't think you would be disappointed at all with the sound quality of this set. If you have a larger open floor plan room I would think a soundbar setup in conjunction with the tv speakers would be just fine. However, I am an audiophile or audiohead so I love my sound and I love my theater picture and booming sound experience so I am utilizing the eArc and fiber optical setup on the tvs back panel with my Onkyo receiver and Klispch speakers 7.1.2 Atmos setup and it looks sounds great. It's my own little home theater setup. In conclusion I am giving this tv 5 stars today because I am happy with it for all the features it has and for the price I paid for it. As for the Hisense brand I am not too familiar with the brand that much but after watching expert online reviews and the praises this tv got compared to high end and high dollar sets I was comfortable enough to purchase this set. In the long run only time will tell as even in the beginning of my review this is replacing a then mid range to high end Samsung set that ultimately blew up after 5 years of use.

Great Video, Poor Sound
15 June 2022

I would like to give this TV a 5-star rating but that is just not possible. Video quality is great. TV has lots of built-in apps and allows you to install additional apps from the PlayStore. So why not 5-stars; it comes down to sound issues. Sound quality is about what is expected for a TV. The issue with my TV is that it looses all sound from inputs. While watching tv, all of a sudden the sound dies, and I mean it dies. You cannot just simply turn the tv off and back on, it dies completely. I have called Hisense about 7 times, opened 3 separate service tickets and all with no solution. If you don't believe, search Hisense loss of sound and you will see that this happens quite a bit. If you don't believe, search Hisense loss of sound and you will see that this happens quite a bit. The Hisense representative said my issue is unique, but it's not. Now to the solutions. Hisense has provided two different firmware versions to resolve the sound issue but neither firmware update has worked. What does work to temporarily fix this is to unplug the tv from the wall. Yes, unplug, not just a power off. This somehow resets the tv to a point where the sound works again. This is a better solution that doing a full factory reset which I was doing when this first happened, which requires going through the entire set-up process. I have connected the tv to a smart plug which I shut off and turn back on instead of physically unplugging which saves the hassle of moving the tv stand to access the plug. Maybe I got an electronic lemon here. Waiting for Hisense to send a tech to figure out what the next steps will be to resolve this issue. If you buy this tv and have sound issues, call them immediately and start the warranty process to get this fixed. By the way, I purchased the tv in Jan 2022 and started having issues in April. I've "reset" the sound around 30 times from April - June 2022, way too many times to give this a high rating.

Latest features at a budget friendly price

Bottom Line: The Hisense U7G is great for large-screen gaming and full-screen viewing of HDR content. My AppleTV 4K was automatically recognized as a Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos device upon connection, although I did have to fiddle with a picture setting to get my PlayStation 5 to display in 4K HDR. Another thing I liked was that, since the TV recognizes the devices, it automatically configures the TV remote (with backlighting) to control the other devices. PS5 gaming looks incredible on the 75” screen, and I was really blown away by how much better a game like Demon’s Souls looks in 4K HDR over my old 4K SDR set. The 60 fps also really shines in games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which looks absolutely stunning in its fluid and detailed environments. There are still only a few games for PS5 that can be played in 120 fps, so I’m excited to eventually see how they look on this unit. For HDR10/Dolby Vision content, the contrast and peak brightness are definitely a noticeable improvement over an SDR screen. I was able to pick out small details that I never noticed before in films I've seen many times. For instance, in Batman (1989), there are some shots where Batman is in the shadows and one of his eyes is noticeably vibrant against the darkness of the cowl and scene. Although the unit delivers on all of its advertises features, I should note two points for discerning buyers. First, for those who are most interested in theatrical viewing, the LED backlighting does bleed into the letterbox borders. In a dark room, I found the bloom quite noticeable. Second, the unit does support Dolby Atmos, and the sound quality is fine for built-in speakers (some content does actually sound immersive). However, I do think most folks will still want to opt for a separate sound bar / system, especially if you’re going for something closer to theatre quality sound.

My TV for the Next Decade at Least
21 November 2021

I've had a 50" DLP TV since 2008 and surround sound system of similar age and this year I decided to modernize. I picked the Hisense 75U7G on the basis of a few favorable reviews, the eARC port and price. I have not been disappointed. Some things that bother others like barely visible halos around white subtitles on a black background and slight corner vignetting bother me not at all. I find the fact that it has a very good viewing angle, as a result of it being an IPS panel, a big plus. I sometimes watch from the side during the day because the big east window directly opposite the TV is annoying if what I am watching is darkly lighted but usually it is bright enough that I don't bother to move. I sometimes watch from the side during the day because the big east window directly opposite the TV is annoying if what I am watching is darkly lighted but usually it is bright enough that I don't bother to move. I had to set the TV up an a narrow width table (see picture) so instead of the enclosed feet, which I judged to make the TV possibly unstable if I put them into narrow position by exchanging right and left legs, I used an aftermarket table mount, an rfiver UT5002 which seems quite sturdy, swivels and has a large tempered glass base on which the soundbar, which I also recently bought from BestBuy, sits. I have found that just watching everything in Film Maker mode, day or night, gives a very good picture and obviates fussing with controls. I am not a video game player but I can attest that OTA broadcast TV; built in apps Amazon Prime, Youtube, and Pluto; DVDs and ordinary Blu-rays give very good results. The 4K material on Youtube and Amazon Prime is stunning. If you want to listen to the TV with earphones instead of its speakers or your sound system, there is a wired connection which allows you to also use the TVs volume controls, something my old TV lacked. Bluetooth pairing with your phone or wireless headphones is also easy. I had to use a 300 to 75 balun to connect my rooftop antenna to the TV and the fit was very tight. You can attach an easily found, elbow shaped male/female coax connector to the coax port of the TV to make it more accessible to the balun. Scanning for channels is a bit strange. You can do it in antenna or cable mode but the only difference is the order it looks for antenna and cable frequencies. At the 50 mark it starts looking for the other kind. It ends up scanning for VHF twice since those frequencies are the same for both OTA and cable stations. You can safely stop the scan at the 50 mark whether you are in antenna or cable mode and not miss any channels. Most OTA channels are 480i and don't look that good on any 75" TV AFAIK, but 720p and 1020i come in fine on the 75U7G.

OUTSTANDING 4K ULED TV – OPTIMIZED FOR GAMING
14 November 2021

The Hisense 75U7G 4K ULED Android Quantum Dot television is a great new model. It is one of the newest Hisense Quantum Dot televisions which are equipped with display panels with superior performance. In addition to being an outstanding UHD television for enjoying broadcast, cable, streaming and Blu-ray media, the 75U7G is optimized to provide a superior gaming experience. I selected the Hisense 75U7G because we already have a Hisense Quantum Dot TV that we really enjoy. I selected the Hisense 75U7G because we already have a Hisense Quantum Dot TV that we really enjoy. We have been so favorably impressed and completely satisfied with our other Hisense ULED Quantum Dot television, that I felt confident that the 75U7G would be equally impressive, enjoyable and reliable. I have recommended Hisense Quantum Dot ULED televisions to friends and coworkers who resultantly have been extremely pleased with the Hisense TVs that they subsequently purchased. Inside the box with the 75U7G TV is the power cord, Quick Start Guide, two tabletop legs (stand) a backlit Remote Control with batteries and an analog AV cable. The 75U7G can be wall mounted with an optional bracket. The TV stand legs mount in a wide footprint configuration with a very wide stance of 59.3”. The television was exceptionally well packed and protected against shipping and handling damage. The 75U7G television has an extremely thin bezel surrounding the flat screen. The bezel measures only 4 mm (about ¼”). The bezel is barely noticeable. The 75U7G is a sleek television with impressive appearance. Setting up the Hisense 75U7G is fast and easy. In typical Android TV fashion, the 75U7G allows you to ask Google to set up your TV with your Android phone, which is extremely straightforward. Utilizing the Google app, the TV establishes the Wi-Fi connection (802.11 ac – 2.4GHz & 5 GHz) and links the TV to your Google Account. The Hisense 75U7G has excellent specifications and features, including: 4K ULED Quantum Dot, 1000 nit, 120Hz native refresh rate, IPS panel Dolby Vision HDR / HDR10 / HDR10+/HLG IMAX Enhanced and DTS Audio Dolby Atmos sound Full Array Local Dimming Backlighting (90 local dimming zones) Google Assistant (Voice Controlled) and Alexa Compatibility Chromecast Four HDMI Ports with CEC: Two HDMI 2.0 Ports (4K@60Hz) and Two HDMI 2.1 Ports (4K@120Hz). One HDMI 2.1 port supports eARC. Additional connectivity: 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 digital audio output, RCA composite video input, 1 RJ45 Ethernet port, a mini-plug serial jack and an RF coax jack. The video display of the 75U7G is absolutely outstanding. The 1000 nit 75U7G is extremely bright. It performed beautifully even in a bright room. Whites are pure and untinged, and blacks are absolutely solid jet black. Colors are extremely vivid and realistic. I did not detect any of the common video issues like Dirty Screen Effect (DSE), color bleeding, motion blur or other deficiencies. There is some blooming, but it is minor. There is no black crush. There is some question as to the number of local dimming zones in the 75U7G display. The Hisense product webpage states that there are 72 local dimming zones. The PDF Specification Sheet states that there are 90 local dimming zones. A generally reliable Internet site listed the specification as 120 local dimming zones. It appears that the specification sheets for the 55U7G, 65U7G and 75U7G have a few discrepancies. If the 75U7G actually has only 90 local dimming zones, that is surprising and disappointing. The U8G model has an extremely impressive 360 local dimming zones, and even my other Hisense TV has 132 local dimming zones (and no blooming whatsoever). Upscaling to 4K is excellent. Upscaled 1080p content looks almost as good as native 4K content! The panel has 120 Hz native refresh rate and supports a maximum resolution of 4k@120 Hz. The Quantum Dot technology produces outstanding colors. Other television manufacturers offer the same display panel technology as Quantum Dot under different proprietary names. Another 75” television that I own, and enjoy immensely, has the equivalent screen technology, but is priced more than double the price of the Hisense 75U7G. The Quantum Dot panel is the primary reason that the Hisense 75U7G is so pleasing to watch. The Quantum Dot display produces very dark black, and rich, vibrant, saturated, intense, detailed, bright and accurate colors. The exceptional depth of color of Quantum Dot displays rival OLED displays in many respects, but has the advantages of not deteriorating and fading with age, as OLEDs will during their operating life, nor is the display susceptible to burn-in like an OLED display, nor are Quantum Dot panels significantly more expensive, as are OLED panels. Additionally, the extremely bright Quantum Dot displays look much better in bright ambient light conditions than do OLEDs. Frequently, a brand new television will require significant adjustment to deliver the optimal viewing experience. The out of the box Picture Settings often require modifications / adjustments to achieve an acceptable level of color accuracy, particularly for skin tones. I was particularly impressed and extremely pleased that the picture settings of the 75U7G did not require any adjustments whatsoever during initial setup. The display was absolutely excellent! The Hisense 75U7G has multiple, tailored viewing modes including Vivid, Standard, Energy Saving, Game Mode Pro, Sports, Theater Day and Theater Night and Filmmaker Mode. The 75U7G automatically switches to the best viewing mode for the selected content. The standout, differentiating viewing mode of the 75U7G is Game Mode Pro. Hisense intelligently designed the 75U7G to appeal to, and satisfy the needs of gamers. The 75U7G includes advanced gaming support technology which they call Game Mode Pro. Game Mode Pro includes HDMI 2.1 inputs to support the bandwidth requirements of next-gen gaming consoles like the Microsoft Xbox Series X, and fully exploit their capabilities, as well as future evolutions of gaming systems. LLM (Automatic Low-Latency Mode) automatically switches the 75U7G to the low-lag gaming preset when a signal from a gaming console is detected. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) dynamically adjusts the 75U7Gs refresh rate to correspond to the frame rate output by the game console. AMDs FreeSync VRR ensures that input lag is not an issue when a game ramps up the frame rate during intensive content and intensive processing. VRR prevents stutter and frame tearing which would otherwise significantly diminish the gaming experience. These features, especially the Variable Refresh Rate, in combination with the 4K@120Hz, High Frame Rate display panel, result in genuinely outstanding gaming! The Game Mode Pro features genuinely work well, and game play on the 75U7G is consistently smooth, fast and fluid. Even during intense scenes there was no perceptible input lag or frame tearing. The 75U7G rivals a dedicated gaming monitor for its ability to deliver optimal display performance with resource demanding games but does it with a beautifully large 75” screen. The 75U7G really exploits the full capabilities of the game console! The relatively glossy screen was actually not an issue even in a bright room. The built-in audio sounds quite decent, but many people will elect to connect a home theater system to greatly enhance gaming, movie and TV viewing. It is generally understood that AV display panels are considered the better choice for television viewing. The basis is that IPS panels provide far superior off-axis viewing, but that contrast and black saturation and uniformity is inferior. However, the IPS display of the 75U7G has excellent contrast and deeply saturated ink black. I found this to be surprising and extremely pleasing. The 75U7G display simply looks outstanding and is very satisfying! The Hisense 75U7G runs on Android 10. The available settings in the software are numerous, and offer a great deal of feature and performance configuration and customization. The printed Quick Start Guide is included in the packaging, however the User Manual is electronic only. A QR code on the screen links smartphones to the online User Manual, which quite candidly is not sufficiently comprehensive or adequate. Many features and settings are not documented, and that is a deficiency that genuinely needs to be addressed and corrected. The remote control is black plastic with backlit buttons, including six dedicated streaming buttons for Netflix, Prime Video, You-Tube, Disney+, Tubi and Peacock. The remote control includes voice control through Google Assistant. There is also a software switchable microphone for Google Assistant on the TV front panel, which can be set through a software feature to remain active when the television is not turned on. The Hisense 75U7G is an excellent 4K ULED, Quantum Dot, Android television. The features and specifications are very impressive, and more importantly, the television performance is also very impressive. The enhanced Game Mode Pro features genuinely make the 75U7G an optimal television for gaming. The 75U7G truly offers the best of both worlds; an excellent TV and a high-performance 75” gaming monitor! The Hisense 75U7G is a pleasure to watch and a pleasure to game on. The Quantum Dot display delivers beautiful high-definition content. Whether watching broadcast TV, streaming or gaming, the Hisense 75U7G has been very satisfying! I really like the Hisense 75U7G and I definitely recommend it!

I researched the entire lineup before I bought. When researching, the U7G is US model and U78G is Canadian. U is the series and G represents the year under current naming pattern (2021). There is also a AUS variant, they differ so pay attention. I intentionally avoided the 75 inch models because I knew I wanted a VA panel. I have to say that via Reddit and other social platforms, it's amazing to be able to receive responses/DM's from a team that genuinely cares are it's customers. I can't speak for the future growth and scalability of this service. The Canadian model is a no-brainer for movies and gaming. Low input lag and vibrant colours. HDMI 2.1 and eARC capable. Leagues above my Vizio, all except Apple AirPlay. The only other minor points is that there is no input for "Home" in the input list, although there is a button on the remote. This prevents you from setting custom picture mode for OS dashboard. There's no auto-memory/cache clearing feature either, which means periodically you may want to run those manually to run at its smoothest. TV processors are not known to be powerful. Motion smoothing (soap opera effect) is good if you're into that, although I did expect 5:5 pulldown for this native 120hz panel to have less intermittent stutter. Updates have been made from community feedback that have addressed some gaming issues for some consoles. I also won the panel lottery. Highly recommended.

I was initially very impressed with the Hisense - 75" Class U7G Series Quantum ULED 4K UHD Smart Android TV. It has lots of great features such as IMAX, Dolby audio and video, local dimming, light sensors, active contrast, etc. It's the best picture of all the TV's I've purchased! However, the joy faded quickly. My first problem was with how it worked with my Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max streaming device and Denon - AVR-X3700H receiver. For some reason, upon powering on the TV and receiver, the receiver switches inputs to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max every time regardless of previous settings. For some reason, upon powering on the TV and receiver, the receiver switches inputs to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max every time regardless of previous settings. The TotalTech Support technician that came to my home to troubleshoot suggested new more expensive cables (of coarse) and that I replace the Fire TV Stick. Even though the cables were new as was the Fire TV stick, I decided to follow his recommendation just in case and to eliminate sources of the problem. I replaced all the HDMI cables and replaced the Fire TV Stick twice with no improvement. Please note I did not have this problem with (2) previous TV's and the same receiver and same Fire TV Stick Max 4K. I even swapped out the Fire TV Stick Max 4K for the older Fire TV 4K and the problem did not go away. Second problem is the google voice/automation/integration. No matter what I do, the TV will intermittently switch to the home screen, pop-up some search results, etc. Very annoying. Apparently you can unenroll devices once enrolled in google home. Third problem is the app. Its sucks. It constantly disconnects from the TV and requires me to reconnect. However when I try 2 of 3 times it can't find the TV. Ugh. The latest issue is with the screen randomly turning gray or some wired iridescent pink color. Not cool. The cherry on top of this disaster sundae is Best Buy's TotalTech Support. I scheduled an appointment with TotalTech but they cancelled without an explanation. When I called to get one, I was told it was cancelled because they would not be able to service my TV since the manufacturer's warranty was still active. I explained that I knew that when I scheduled the appointment and asked what's the point of TotalTech if you guys are not providing the warranty service. I'd naively assumed Best Buy was an authorized service provider for the TV's they sold and could perform warranty and non-warranty service. What made purchasing a plan form Best But attractive was having one place to call or work with when I had a problem and avoid dealing with the manufacturer. Apparently this is not a service or benefit of TotalTech Support. This leaves me wondering what am I getting for the several hundred dollars I am spending for totaltech. Also wondering why I risked purchasing a brand with which I am unfamilar and has not been around as long some others like Samsung, Sony, LG, Toshiba or Panasonic. Never again on both.

If you want to disable the assistant on the tv and use your other assistants like I did, leave the switch near the mic on (so those lights don't come on) and dive into the app permissions for the Google app on the tv and remove microphone permissions . It's sad that the Ethernet connection is only 10/100, so if you need it faster you have to use wifi. (honestly just hoped better on a 2022 tv. Not a big deal). The sound is decent enough for a medium size room.
