I originally wrote this brand off when my BF had purchased some. They were a really bright color and a brand I'd never heard of. I personally don't like loud and bright tennis shoes but my feet have been killing when working out lately. I have tried exercising with orthotic inserts and even that stopped working as far as feeling discomfort and some pain. I looked up good running shoes and this brand popped up. I stepped in the pair my BF had, dispite being way too big, I felt the cushion in them. I went ahead and ordered a pair. I love these! I can't believe I've lived without them! I do more circuit training and cardio then running but these shoes are a game changer for me! They give me support and cushion where I need it and are super light. This is my 2nd pair of Hokas (I bought Bondi 7's earlier in 2021) and they have alleviated ALL pain. I have very bad hip flexors and they hurt almost all the time. On top of that, I sit a lot studying so standing for long periods of time hurt if barefoot or not in supportive shoes. I love these Hoka shoes, they are lighter and shorter than my Bondi's and are so comfortable. My feet feel very supported and because of this, my knee, hip, and foot pain is a thing in the past.I am a true 7.5 in every shoe and the 7.5 are perfect. I have a wider foot and the regular width suffices.A couple of suggestions to Hoka: please make everyday slip-on shoes for women + make CUTE colors for women! This shoe has what I need; so glad I found them! I look for something with good arch support, deeper heel or high back, narrow, roomy toe box, firm but cushy footbed. I have a 41/42 shoe size but my arch is a 44. This means the arch in 90% of the shoes I try on hits the front of my heel (or back of the ball of my feet) instead of in the actual curve of my arch. The Mach 4 arch fits perfectly. I like the sole/footbed of the shoe to be soft for comfort but firm enough to support me so as to prevent plantar fasciitis and more importantly provide a firm barrier between me and uneven ground (roots, cobblestone, etc.). This shoe does that too! I also have a narrow foot and too often, shoes get wide when you get up into the size 41 or 42 (10 or 10.5). I don't know why so many shoe makers think your foot is somehow magically wider just because you wear a larger-length size. This shoe fits my narrow foot perfectly. SO glad I found these. Thanks Hoka!

I'm a nurse and I'm on my feet12 hours a shift. A lot of co-workers are now wearing Hoka shoes so I decided to try them. I'm glad I did. I read the reviews and agree with some that the toe box is small so I went up half a size so my toes don't feel cramped by the end of the shift. They don't and my feet don't hurt at all. The only issue I had was that the tongue is rough so when I wore no show socks the first time, within a few hours, my shoes were rubbing raw spots on my ankles. So I wear them now with my compression socks. These shoes don't look too big like some of the Hoka shoes do. They are light weight and give me great arch support. These are my go to shoes for work. Going to buy a second pair in a different color for walking and working out.
I originally bought the mach 4 and the most recent Bondi. These shoes felt completely different and the Mach was a better fit for my foot. In the same size, the Bondi felt shorter and too tight. I'm recovering from a trimalleolar ankle fracture and originally was trying to find a shoe with more height on the sole because I was transitioning from crutches to a walking boot. The Bondi was higher but it wasn't as comfortable. If you need a lot of distinct arch support I'm not sure the Mach is a good fit for you. The insole and foot bed don't lend toward significant arch support. I did like the Mach 4 enough to buy a second pair so that I could have a pair for outdoor use as well as keep a clean pair for inside the house because it hurts too much to walk in bare feet. I don't have clearance to run or jog yet for 2 more months so I'm unsure how this would perform as a running shoe. For now it is providing consistent support as I go through rehab and transition to walking.
After the Clifton 8 didn't quite work for me (too narrow) I tried this shoe on a whim. WOW am I glad I did!! This shoe has now taken me through two half marathons (training and races) and a 10 miler race with complete ease and minimal signs of wear. I'm really impressed! It's the perfect mix of cushion, spring and responsiveness, has a fairly wide toe box and is a very breathable shoe. Also comfortable both on the treadmill and on the road! I just purchased another pair to start wearing for higher mileage but will continue to wear my originals for shorter run as they still have life left in them. I can see myself wearing these for the foreseeable future - absolutely love these!!
I am someone who enjoys a more responsive ride in a running shoe. Too much squish is bad for my knees, ironically (I need a lil' more support). So I've been in the Arahi and all was well and good and then the Mach 4 came out and I was like, "Oh hey, it's time to update these puppies, why not try something new?" And boy howdy does this shoe deliver. These are some of the easiest miles I've run, and I'm not a competitive runner! I was CASUALLY running a sub-8:00 minute for 5 miles and I didn't feel like I was working hard AT ALL (fwiw my average pace is 8:30). This shoe has the perfect amount of cushion, with response to help push you forward. The upper has enough support to hold me in too, combined with a nice heel collar so it's not too loosey goosey. All for an amazing price point.Whether you're a competitive runner, or someone like me who just likes jamming to musicals while running around your neighborhood, this shoe delivers. Get this little lady in your life and eat those miles!
These lemon/navy shoes are very, very pretty and feminine. But, they are also one of the sturdiest and best engineered shoes I have ever worn. These Mach 4's are well suited for serious runners.I have owned Hoka Mid-Tor/Mid-Speedgoat for the past 2 yrs. But, the Speedgoat 2021 version was very poorly made, so I was hesitant to try this Mach 4's that came highly rated. I called Fargo Scheels & spoke with Alex Fuchs in women's shoes. Alex confirmed the Mach 4 was great for runners, & even reached out to the Men's dept., who described a design feature on the Mach 4 before I bought it. So, if you ever need help finding the right running shoe, Alex is your guy! His customer service is so stellar, he needs to be training Scheel's sales associates.Mach 4 - Women'sI ... MoreThese lemon/navy shoes are very, very pretty and feminine. But, they are also one of the sturdiest and best engineered shoes I have ever worn. These Mach 4's are well suited for serious runners.I have owned Hoka Mid-Tor/Mid-Speedgoat for the past 2 yrs. The beauty of these shoes is, every step feels energized -- even the last mile. You don't even feel tired. I've been running for 30 years, so I have been through a lot of runs. The other important feature is the shoe rolls perfectly with your gait, and also supports each portion of your foot that contacts the ground. This not only gives you an effortless stride, it also provides perfect support. (In comparison, I tried Salomon's Speedcross that painfully separated the movement heel to toe). The Mach 4 is such a stable comfortable shoe, and I find the way the shoe is designed also allows proper form. In turn, this takes less stress and energy to run.I also had an outside metatarsal break awhile back, and I can tell you the support of this shoe -- even running an extra 2 miles over my normal run my first day out in these Mach 4's -- was absolutely "no pain" or discomfort. These Mach 4's are not as cushiony as the Hoka Clifton's or the prior Speedgoat versions. However, I have run in this Mach 4's on concrete, sandy/rocky county roads and grass/cross country and every step is supportive. To me, this is a hugely versatile, high quality runner's shoe. It can handle whereever you run, and it's obvious attention was paid to every portion of a runner's stride in the shoe's engineering.NOTE: Pull out the pebbles in the bottom of the shoe after your run to extend the life of the shoe. After about 150 miles, and 1 wash, the shoes still look almost like brand new. So they are wearing well.
I purchased this shoe approximately 2 months ago on sale. The shoe has a great fit, feels comfortable, and has good ankle stability. However, while the sole appears thick there is minimal cushion and impact absorption. They are okay for short 5 km runs but longer runs on sidewalks in city are uncomfortable. Overall, I’d prefer a shoe with more cushioning, or perhaps a different type of cushioning.
What I like:- Versatility. The Match 4 are well-rounded trainers for recovery runs. Their comfort, feel and drop make them also suitable for cross training. In my case, I like doing a ~30min recovery run + gym/HIIT. It does a nice job covering these varied tasks!- Design: neat and elegant. The color combination of the fucsia ones also make them stylish. You can fashion Match 4 for casual outfits with an accent. What I don't like:- Ankle hold: I don't feel my ankles have enough support for longer runs (10K+). I feel my ankles and lower tights sorer after running long distances with the Match 4, a feeling I don't get with other shoes. I made sure I was wearing an adequate size -indeed, the shows are very comfortable. However, the ankle feeling makes me not use them ... MoreWhat I like:- Versatility.
