First time with Hokas...would do again

I have been running in Altra road and trail shoes for years. I started to feel like I may need more support but was nervous about the transition from zero drop. I am more than satisfied. I'm an ankle roller (primary reason for switching to zero drop) and I haven't rolled one time in my new trail Hokas. Furthermore, it's been really nice to NOT feel every single root and rock under my feet like I did with the Altras. That was so painful sometimes. I'm pretty happy. I'll still use my Altras but probably less and less as I grow more and more comfortableWith Hokas. I do wish Hoka would do a wide toe box option. This has to happen.

My orthopedic surgeon recommended Hoka's, as both my feet were severely fractured in a car accident. I struggle with balance and confident footing and we live in Rocky Mountain terrain with steep inclines around our log home. These shoes definitely have given me back better balance and footing in our yard. My only complaint is my feet are sore after 2-3 hours wearing. The stiffer traction "bumps" start hurting foot soles. Will try some gel inserts to provide more cushioning; multiple surgeries & screws make these a little too stiff for longer wearing that I was hoping for. I do highly recommend for traction and balance, however. HOKA wish you had shoes in more subtle color options as well.

FINALLY, I have found a shoe I can wear on the trails by my cottage where my feet are not ruined afterward. The right combination of support and cushioning. The bonus? I wear these on our wet stairs and dock, and don't slip as with my other shoes/sandals. They "stick" quite nicely. I measured my feet as recommended on the Hoka website and ordered a size 8 (my usual size...8.5 in Asics). Also worth mentioning, I do not have wide feet, actually a narrow heel and foot, just the darn bunions and toes that need a bit more room. These shoes needed no break in period. Wore them right out of the box. Happy feet.

Horrible support ! And horrible customer service
15 July 2021

I purchased these in high hopes as they were recommended , No heel support my feet hurt with them . I called customer service stating that unfortunately I did wear them out as I needed to test them . I gave them a good chance however it was still very painful to walk in them . The sizing was perfect however not a comfortable shoe. Spoke with customer service person by the name of Morgan who basically said oh well ! If you sell a product you need to stand by them ! I am a nurse and need comfortable walking /running shoes to and from work. This was explained to Morgan who basically said well if i had spoken to a customer service representative prior to purchase they would have advised me against buying Hoka shoes because they are not good for nurses ! I would have gladly purchased the Bondi from Altitudes sport however after this horrible experience no way !

I prefer Bondi 7
9 September 2021

I’ll start with the great experience I had shopping with the running room. Easy online purchasing, fast delivery, and of course, the quality of the Hoka brand lived up to its name. I use mine for work, I’m a nurse and I take on average 15-20k steps a day. I usually get the Bondi 7 but saw that the torrent was on sale, so I thought I’d try them out. They’re not for me. The arch is way too high. So I returned them, which was an easy process. You’re provided with a return number and a free shipping label which is a lot more than other companies offer. Anyway, so I spent the extra $80 and got another pair of the Bondi 7. My previous pair lasted 10 months before I started to notice wear, and before I was wearing mid-range priced brands and had to replace them after 4 ... MoreI’ll start with the great experience I had shopping with the running room. My old pair of Bondis still has enough life in them to use for my daily walks outdoors. I recommend the Bondi 7 and not so much the Torrent.

I'm a fan
27 June 2020

I wore my first Torrents into the ground, and was intrigued by this updated version. I've had them for a week and put about 60 miles on them on a variety of terrain. I'm a 6 in all other running shoes, but a 5.5 in Hokas. The heel felt great - completely locked in with no slippage (or hot spots). The front felt a little tight on the first run, but loosened on the second run, and have fit fine since. Traction worked well on everything I put them through, including mud and wet slabs. I transitioned to Hoka from years of pretty minimal shoes after a couple injuries, and like this model (and the first version) because I can get the support and cushion but still feel what I'm running on. Looking forward to putting these through the ringer this summer. One slight annoyance unrelated to the shoe itself is that Hoka charges tax on these in MA even though the state doesn't have sales tax on shoes or clothing. I was told in the little chatbox that they tax on online mail orders, though I don't understand why. I'm unlikely to order directly from the company in the future for this reason - it adds up with how frequently I have to buy new pairs.

I'm unstoppable in these shoes! ALL the trails
25 November 2021

I could not be happier with my Torrent 2s! I bought them because I was tired of slipping on hiking trails here in OR, little did I know they made me unstoppable on ALL the trails! No more slipping, super grip with these shoes. I wore them to the top of Angel's Landing in Zion - no slipping while everyone around me was falling. I trekked across the desert on unmarked "trails" walking down steep rocks covered in a dusting of sand that would make anyone slip - nope! Not in these shoes. I'm much more confident on any trail, jogging or trekking up a steep incline. Seriously stoked on these Hokas. I now have a Hoka for every occasion, as a long-time follower for their superior cushioning, wide base for my feet, and defeating my plantar fasciitis. Only gripe is the insole that comes in them is not enough arch support, but it's easily removable for my preferred insole insert. Pro-tip for hiking shoes - order 1/2 size up to allow room for your feet to slide forward comfortably on inclines. These are not too bulky like most Hokas that tower you over the ground.

Love hoka
22 December 2022

If you're young, start wearing these sneakers, so when you're an old 60 year old like me, you will have better feet. Also walk longer dnt run. Running catches up to you n I regret that I never listened to anyone. By far these sneakers are mad cool n comfortable. I wish they had better colors. I love my dark blue w solid green soles. Bt a lot of the colors r ugly. Way too much neon. Other than that, you won't find better sneakers.

Roomy
28 November 2022

Comfortable. Lightweight. Great laces. I'm solidly a size 9 in most shoe brands and I chose a 9 for my new Hokas. The sneakers are roomy. If your feet swell when you run, the Hokas accommodate it. If you are buying sneakers for walking or other fitness where your feet will not swell, I would recommend trying on a size a half step down in a store if you can. I will stick with the 9s that I got as I do love them but the next time I can try on a pair at 8.5 I will. They're a little roomier than I would ideally like but they are still very comfortable.

Sticky soles, nice flex, but too much feedback
20 June 2020

Bought these to replace my old Teva Arrowwood 2 leather trail shoes. The Tevas have been great, but they lack any real cushion which, if I could ever find it in another shoe, I would go for. I thought with the Hoka Torrent 2s, and Hoka's rep for maximal cushion, these would be that shoe. I just got a pair of the Bondi 6s, and THEY are phenomenal and live up to the hype. These Torrents, however, are not working for me. I think that Hoka, by listing as "responsive" actually means that you WILL feel plenty of trail feedback. Unfortunately, that feedback is very strong in this shoe (for me), too strong. I got done with a normal trail hike this morning, not even running, and now my knees hurt which they never did even with the old Tevas. They are beautiful shoes, but I think I'm going to trade them in for the Stinson ATR 5s as they look as if they will provide more of the real cushion I need.About the Torrent fit: The medium width is plenty roomy (I have a wide forefoot) and they feel stable and light. The lugs are super sticky, as promised, so you will not slide around even on slick rock surfaces.Bottom line: If you want a light-weight, sticky, thinner trail shoe that will give you LOTS of feedback, this might work for you.
