I purchased two automatic digital timers to set up watering whilst on holidays. The holiday didn't happen due to Covid in the family but I have used one timer in an area where the tap is behind hedges. It is set to water once a week for 40 minutes and is working excellent. I had to get advice from Holman as to how to set the duration to less than an hour. Once that advice was received it was easy to set up, although you must read the instructions carefully and follow them exactly. I've suggested the instructions be amended to explain you must set the minutes on duration to a number before you can set the hour to zero. An excellent piece of equipment that is great value. I'll use the other unit when we next go on holidays.

If I could give this product less than one star I would. First one I purchased the internals filled with water and it stopped working after a day. Replaced it and the second one also stopped working after a day. But this time the unit snapped at the top and started flooding my back yard. I had to return from my holiday early to fix it. Reading the reviews, this product should be removed from the shelves until they improve the quality.

This tap timer was purchased to replace a tap timer purchased 5 years ago built by another manufacturer. Setting it up with a program was much more difficult than the tap timer it replaced. Also and most importantly it seems to DEFAULT to have the program disabled (eg for wet days etc) and as such it took some time to work out why it would not turn the water on an the programmed time AND that there also is method to disable and enable the program (pressing and holding the off button). The icon showing a watering device should NOT be displayed if you want the program to operate. This is a BIG trap for the unwary especially as this appeared to be already set and I was unaware that this was a feature on this tap timer which did not exist in the timer it replaced. Recently installed this and after a few days noticed condensation building up. Opend the battery area to find its was full of water. Dried it all out. A couple of days ago noticed it wasn't working. Did the same. Tonight notice the battery says empty. Opened it up and it's full of water again and completely eroded the battery and wires. Don't bother buying this. I am going to see if I can get a refund or exchange for a better brand except i cant locate the receipt.
I have just returned from a weeks holiday after leaving my recently planted vegetable garden in the care of the Holman Digital Tap Timer. The timer was set to commence watering every second day at 7.00am for a 30 minute duration. The Timer was connected to a garden hose and sprinkler and the whole system was tested prior to leaving home. There were some very hot days during the week that I was away but I was very pleased with the condition of the plants when I arrived back home. The Tap Timer is easy to setup, has many options and can be bypassed with the press of a button if extra watering is required between start times. I love this timer.
I have my entire block watered automatically with 4 of these things.. some off rainwater tanks, some off mains, the only limit is water pressure. Bit surprised by the criticisms, ive never seen any water condensation, all of mine are under the eves of the house, so they get wet but not constantly. Batteries are a little tricky to change, be careful not to damage the wiring.. but the piece that fails for me eventually is the plastic tap fittings on top.. ive had a couple break eventually, and you cant replace that 1 part.. you have to buy a new unit.. but this is years down the track usually. Dont buy manual timers.. you need something that will run daily, or 3x weekly, or whatever it is you want.. I sometimes dial it back a bit in winter when its unnecessary. Given the rain in previous years it hasnt been a big deal, but when its drought, this is the perfect way to make sure you dont forget to manually turn things on each day/week/etc.
Purchased two units 3 years ago. Both attached to irrigation systems and worked OK for 2 years (but not in full-time use, especially in La Nina). Began leaking 2.5 to 3 years after installation, constant slow leaks into irrigation system when supposedly in OFF position. Only found the leaks because water bill was 40% higher than normal!!!! Do NOT recommend.
Simple, easy, foolproof (if you read manual) Lol. A great product that just works. As long as you don’t crush the o ring I can’t see why it would ever leak but a little smear of gasoline on the seal should keep it in good nick for years and then it’s just battery replacement and they have so far lasted very well. Happily recommend and the price is so much cheaper than others here that don’t do anything more, why would you not try it? Excellent product I’ve used for over 2 ½ years now without a drama
Ok so the first issue I had was that after one week the valve would sometimes not open properly, and only let out a tiny trickle of water. I then put a 100kPA pressure regulator upstream (keep in mind its rated for 500kpa) and this seemed to fix it.... Until 2 months later when I noticed it was watering my garden when it shouldn't, I then go out and notice that it's filled itself with water and the screen is going nuts (counting down in minutes and seconds but at abnormally high speed, and looping back to 15 minutes when it hit zero), the buttons were also unresponsive and the thing wouldn't shut off at all. So I took battery out and dried it out with a hairdryer, it started working again but I noticed it was leaking internally when it was on (and bear in mind doing ... MoreOk so the first issue I had was that after one week the valve would sometimes not open properly, and only let out a tiny trickle of water. So I took battery out and dried it out with a hairdryer, it started working again but I noticed it was leaking internally when it was on (and bear in mind doing so with 1/5th its rated pressure). To try and workaround this I added 2 more drain holes to the bottom, and left lid off (its mostly sheltered from rain anyway) but this didn't help and it kept getting the circuit board wet enough to do the whole "stay on indefinitely while counting down on loop" thing again several more times before I had enough and returned it. It's a shame because it had a lot of flexibility with the way you could program it: up to 4 cycles a day at any time you like (rather than setting an interval) with option to specify which days to turn on... But with an unreliable valve these features exist in theory only.
I bought one over a year ago for our holiday house. After a couple of battery changes the lead to the 9v battery broke at a solder joint. Not an easy repair. It could do with a re-design to a fixed 9v connector and from a personal perspective an additional product option of solar charging on an upgraded model to make it a great unit.
