Unbelievable, picked this up on a curbside order. l left in my car in a tied bag so my son didn't see it for Christmas. I went to wrap Christmas Eve and the box was clearly a return from someone else. It was All torn up and tapped up. I still wrapped gift against my thoughts/ feelings and guess what one? One of the controllers is broken. Noone will answer the phone at the store so i can ask about a return or exchange. I cannot believe this and the worst part, my kids threw the box in the dumpster with all the Christmas garbage. I'm so beyond upset right now.

Ive only been using for a few hours, but overall its a great substitute for the stock JoyCons while in handheld config. Its just missing a few features…. First and honnestly largest flaw, the additional button…. You can only map it to a button on that same side. So you cant map the left back button to the “B”/Back button. That is honnestly my biggest issue. The other 2 issues are “hardware” related that i woul gladly pay an extra $20-30 for if they were included…. No vibration/feedback… really??? Everything newer then N64 has this feature…. And theres no Gyro/Motion sensors. Otherwise these are great controllers to gove more of a xbox confort feel while playing in handheld mode. Hopefully theres a v2 out that includes the mentioned missing hardware features.

Hori split pads is of great design and great quality. It has added back trigger buttons that can be programmed. However, it lacks a number of important features:1. No vibration2. No Gyro sensor3. No bluetooth (own work when attached)Without these features, you cannot enjoy AAA titles like Zelda BOTW.Many games also has vibration, so when using Hori split pads, i miss the vibration features even if gyro sensor features are not that common with games.

Feels great in the hands and the buttons have remained responsive. Love the under dual external trigger buttons on the bottom. Miles better than the stock Joycons for extended playing sessions. I got the red color. Fits perfect in reg switch, but feels like it's more tailored to the OLED model in terms of the Switch screen being flush with the flat area of the controller. It does not fit flush in front with the Original, but can be easily overlooked as you focus on how great it feels to not have a "dig in" feeling into your hands as you play.
For Switch handheld gaming I first tried a Satisfye – ZenGrip bought on Amazon.com. While that is a good product that allows you to still use JoyCon features such as HD Rumble and gyro aiming in handheld mode, I overall prefer the Hori Split Pad Pro for convenience and comfort. The Split Pad Pro is the best feeling way to play Switch in handheld mode that I have tried so far. Using the split pad pro, my hands don't hurt anywhere near as much when playing something like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as they do when using just JoyCons and to some extent when using the Satisfye – ZenGrip. Personally, I like the light weight of the controllers as it doesn't add unnecessary weight to the console and I can still hold the Switch by holding one of the pads if I need to use the other ... Personally, I like the light weight of the controllers as it doesn't add unnecessary weight to the console and I can still hold the Switch by holding one of the pads if I need to use the other hand for something at a given moment. There are some additional buttons included on the split pad pro, however I have not used them yet so I don't have anything to say about those other than they don't get in my way. With pre-OLED Switch models you can dock the Switch without having to remove the split pads. For the Satisfye – ZenGrip, you have to take the grip off just to dock the console and over time I noticed slight imprints and scuffs on the JoyCons after using that product. I can usually play games just fine without much of the JoyCon features such as HD Rumble and gryo aiming, so the Split Pad Pro controllers make more sense to me for max comfort and minimizing wear on the console. The including attachment part for me adds a lot of value to the split pad pro as aside from allowing you to use the split pad for docked gaming, you can also plug the thing into a PC and use it for pretty much any game that supports a x-input controller (such as an Xbox One controller). This allows me to travel somewhere with a laptop and use the split pad pro to play games on Steam if I want without needing to bring a separate controller or an additional adapter for the JoyCons (which I'm not even sure is a thing since I have not felt the need to try using JoyCons for PC gaming). The cord of the attachment is conveniently a decent length too.I used $30 worth of reward certificates on Best Buy to lower the price of this thing to around $55 with tax. I'm not sure I would be OK with paying $80+ for this. I think $70 or 60 would feel like a more fair price given how long the Split Pad Pro product has been available for and that this set is just adding the attachment.
The Hori Split Pad Pro is an excellent addition to any Switch owner's accessory kit. If you find the conventional JoyCon to really limit the ability to play certain titles, this is the option for you. Are they a bit large and kind of defeat the purpose of having a portable console? Yes, but so what! I've found them to be excellent for when you are at home and have the Switch in handheld mode but want more control in your games. Of course I have a Pro controller as well, but I use that while in dock mode and have a great time with these when undocked. They slide on and off with ease and can be left on when you dock the switch for charging. One thing to keep in mind however is that they will not work once removed from the Switch wirelessly. A lot of people have gripes about this Joy-Con which I would consider unnecessary and quite ignorant if I'm being honest. There are complaints regarding the inability to use it wirelessly and how you can only use it in handheld mode.Fruitless issues considering:A) They couldn't have made it more clear that the controller isn't wireless. It's 20 bucks for crying out loud!B) Its limit to portability is something I would consider a good thing. Hear me out.The left Joy-Con by default substitutes the d-pad with buttons. Why? So that each Joy-Con, no matter whether it's left or right, can be played single-handedly.If you were to take this Joy-Con and play with it by itself, the d-pad *can't* register as good buttons to ANYONE. That would be just silly.Anyway, ... That would be just silly.Anyway, if you need to use a d-pad while your Switch is in docked mode, you can simply invest in either a Pro Controller, Third-Party Controller, or SN30 Pro Controller. This is, by all means, a handheld Joy-Con and it serves its purpose tremendously. It gets extra points by default for being able to fit into my Satisfye grip.I bought it to play Mega Man 11, and with zero input delay accompanied by the fact that this d-pad is very comfortable, makes my gameplay experience so much better. It's a soft d-pad that presses quite comfortably if I do say so myself. My only slightest gripe which isn't even really an issue at all is that if you're playing a 3D game, the edges of the analog stick are ridged, and it's somewhat noticeable if you give it the intention. Once you get used to it though, it's perfectly fine. The minus and capture buttons are also mushy as opposed to a tactile press, which is surprising when you first use them, and it takes some getting used to, but like the analog stick aforementioned, they're not that hard to break in.I fully recommend this product for all lovers of platformers. The ONLY reason I'm taking one star away is that my shoulder buttons both got stuck for no apparent reason. I'm assuming something went defunct with the Joy-Con and would appreciate it if HORI could get back to me as to why this happened. (and whether or not something can be done about it)
I'm a fan. The split pads make the switch sooooo much more playable in handheld mode. Sure, it loses out on all the fixins (NFC, rumble, etc) but I'm not super invested in those anyway. I'm more interested in ergonomics and the d-pad, which are both much better than with joycons. The adapter cord is a nice add-on with a pretty long cord so I can use it in the dock, too.The biggest knock against it is the cost. For this price you could get a pro-controller and one of those adapters that connect the switch to your pro controller. So, I recommend it because it works well, but it's debatable if it's worth it at this price.
I wanted to like this product. But I ultimately returned it. It has sooo many things I wanted: - Big Grips that feel like a Pro controller (though they were a little too big for me, the buttons are pretty far apart) - Great Thumb Sticks - A freaking D-Pad - And Turbo mode But that is about where the Pros end. I tried to play Tetris and noticed I would misplace items very often. Then I realized that sometimes when I press the D-Pad, I can feel a click but it doesn’t actually register a click! I got this on video, but unfortunately I can’t post the video in this review. Given that the main reason I got these controllers was for the D-Pad, I had to return it. A game-changer!! Even after the great reviews and how nice these look i was worried about how big these looked to make the switch. However i do have bigger hands and with the original switch attached controllers my hands would get that tingling numb feeling only after a little bit. Will with this thing those days are over! Amazingly how wider these make the switch actually feels SO MUCH better! Way more comfortable to hold and makes the entire switch feel even more premium! These are light weight but feel of a premium build! The joysticks are AMAZING! Really smooth and feel like a high end controller. D pad is responsive and all the buttons have a nice push to them. I got the black with red lettered buttons. matches my grey switch well. Do not hesitate to get this! ... MoreA game-changer!!
