When Horton the elephant hears a small cry for help coming from a speck of dust, he immediately does what he can. However, the other animals in the jungle think there is nothing there and try to destroy that speck of dust. Can Horton prove to them that there is someone that needs to be protected? Rereading this as an adult, I was struck by how strong the themes of standing up for what you believe and those who need your help are. But those themes never slow down the story, which features constant danger for the Whos. I actually found myself caught up in the story once again, hoping they’d be heard in time. Add in Seuss’s rhymes and illustrations and you’ve got a wonderful book.

I bought this book for my grandson. He loves elephants and I remembered it from when I was a child. I was so happy to find it at Macy's because it is difficult to find in most stores and it was even on sale. This is a great classic story that should be in every child's library.

I purchased this book with the understanding that it was a used "good" copy. The description was "Light shelf wear and minimal interior marks." I hardly think the interior of the book had minimal marks. This book was FULL, page after page, of chalk drawings by probably a 3 year old. I have bought many used books before, but I must say that the quality of this book was quite poor. I gave 2 stars because the shipping was quick, but the quality of this book is NOT "good" as listed. I attempted to gently remove the markings with no success. Very disappointed.
