Neutral Density filters evenly reduce the amount of light passing thru the lens without effecting color. Ideal for reducing bright light in large aperture situations when a narrow depth is field is needed. Allows for slower shutter speeds when blurring or showing of movement is desired. Allows balancing of exposure to highlight a key subject. Lets you use higher speed films in bright light. Hoya Neutral Density filters are available in most sizes and in three strengths:.3 (2x) Reduces the light one f-stop.6 (4x) Reduces the light two f-stops.9 (8x) Reduces the light three f-stops.

I debated going all in on a much more expensive ND filter but I ended up buying this filter instead. I use it mainly for video and I've been getting great results. It's become a handy tool that certainly allows more flexibility when exposing for a scene. I'm satisfied with my choice.

Wasn?t aware of brand recognition at first but I must say this is a GREAT tool Esp combing a circular polorizer on a drone. This size fits the x5-x5r-X5s. I have it on the latter but they are all the same Lumix I mean DJI 15mm stock lens.I love it. Clean. Neat. And makes shooting in the brightest of day a breeze.

Bought the Hoya ND filter to use taking waterfall pictures. I like the silky appearance that can be achieved with longer exposures. This ND filter adds about 3 stops added exposure time. Not really enough for bright sunny days to get the silky smooth water flow that I wanted. I am going to get a 6 stop ND filter to have more flexibility. I can use both filters for really long exposures, 6 or 3 stop for shorter exposures. A bit of a learning curve to get good exposures with a ND filter.

The Hoya ND does a good job of cutting the light without adding too much extra color variance.Only beef is that the coating on the glass seems rather thin; despite my careful use, theres already a few small scratches. Nothing that affects the image, but be sure to baby these guys.Bought mine for the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8, and it screwed on perfectly. Thin and light w/o feeling flimsy. Over-all, a very good ND filter for the money
Seems to be of good quality for the money. I have used it once as I just got it but what I used it for was to photograph Football players posed with flash in bright sun and it enabled me to lower my sync speed to 1/200 at F4. Camera (Nikon d750 with 70-200 2.8 lens) had no problem auto focusing. In post production no change in sharpness or color.
The 3 stop ND8 ND Filter is perfect for shooting waterfalls at 1/2 to 1 S Shutter Speed to Blur the water. When shooting long exposures to blur waterfalls, you often need to keep the shutter open 1/2 to 1 second. This lets in way too much light and will over expose your shot, even at f/22. Using a 3 stop ND Filter corrects this problem to get the perfect waterfall shot.~PhotosByMeta
I dont like step up rings nor expensive complex ND systems. I just buy one of these Hoya NDs for each lens for long exposures and video. These are made in japan and good quality. Pretty much every one I own has at least one small flaw in the coating, however. Just a little spot here and there where the coating didnt take. No impact on results though and great for the price.
I purchased to use with Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 for Canon EOS M mount. I wanted to shoot outdoors in the bright South Texas sun at f/0.95. Mission accomplished. Get some cool results shooting wide open in broad daylight, extremely shallow depth of field. I wouldn't recommend unless your lens is faster than f/2.0 and a relatively short focal length - at least not for hand held shots as you may experience shutter/camera shake. The attached image was shot in broad daylight, f/0.95, ISO 100 with a nice fast shutter speed.
I haven't really used it much yet, but it is well made I believe. I do like the feel, though maybe a bit thick for wide angle. I did put it, a uv filter, a polarizer, and a gnd filter on it and was fine at around 28mm in my 16-35. That's pretty overkill, just was seeing the vignette. The color seems mostly neutral, might be a slight cast but nothing that really causes me concern yet. Hope to get a chance to use it in the field soon.
I own two B W ND filters, which are excellent in every way. I bought this one for my 35mm Canon lens for travel use, and I’m pleasantly surprised at its quality. Most importantly, the minimal color shift. The only thing that’s missing that B W and other high end ones have, is the oleophobic coating. Without that coating, it’s harder to remove fingerprints and dirt. But I can’t complain at this price range. You just have to be extra cautious to keep it clean.
