Coming from ThinkPad X220, now X1 Carbon Gen 9, I am ThinkPad customer since 12 years, running Ubuntu only. ThikPad never denied me service as I need it, LinuxUbuntu did always as expected. There is a lot going on in background and so I love the X1 performance. The only one think I have acclimate to the thunderbolt fast execution of tasks usually symptom that something didnt work well but thats the not the case on X1, just flash fast. Lenovo is offering warranty extension for 5 years and some add on options, like serviceparts in place, international, softwarehardware hotline and so. I enjoy to purchase this options, to have the best possible situation JUST IN CASE YOU NEED IT. Never happened with my X220 but you never know. So I hope to have another hassle free 12 years ... then we will see.

I was pleasantly surprised once I received my new x13 laptop. The magnesium chassis was well finished and lookedfelt very premium while still being extremely light in weight. The top cover is a glass fiber reinforced plastic and is smooth to the touch. Screen bezels are fine to me I dont feel like I am missing out by going for the 169 model. I would likely be seeing black bars in YouTube videos anyways. The slightly less expansive screen therefore is good for me as having smaller bezels would mean some other compromise on keyboard layout or touch pad size which I am not willing to make. I dont edit a lot of photos on my laptops but when traveling it is a godsend to have available. I have no issues with the screen. Response rate is to be expected from a business laptop and I dont have any issues with watching videos. This isnt something I would game on so I dont factor that into my opinion. The privacy guard feature gets a lot of flak online from reviewers. I have noticed a slight decrease in viewing angle when disabled but I also dont sit 45 degrees from my screen and expect great viewing angles, who are these people who do When enabling the privacy guard and with the brightness down it has a pronounced affect and helps stop prying eyes. The additional IR camera and glance software is very cool and will fuzz the screen when you turn your gaze away or someone peeks over your shoulder. This isnt a feature I needed but since it came with my model it is a bit fun to play around with. To have a good affect you really must turn your brightness down a lot however and for inside viewing this is fine but dont expect to see anything outdoors. Overall very neat to have and I appreciate the extra brightness when not in use. There really isnt much more to say. The performance is really great and I almost never hear the fan spin on business or browsing tasks. When it does come on it is hard to hear. A far cry from my reader Razer Blade 15 which sounds like a banshee in heat. The computer also runs very cool and cpu temps are well controlled. Web browsing i get about 10 hours of battery with the brightness half way which is acceptable as the chasing6 is very fast. You can assist change off a usb battery pack which is super cool. I am super happy with this little guy. If Lenovo could add a glance support for Linux that would be very appreciated by me. I havent installed Arch Linux yet but when I have time I will be soon so get on it If you are on the fence then just buy one. I recommend the 4650 processor that I got. Great performance to battery ratio. Looking forward to my next ThinkPad in the future.

In the spirit of the old ThinkPads IBM released yesteryear this laptop is study and functional while maintaining a sleek and light profile. Coming from the Mac and iPad world I found it a breeze to use this laptop with Windows 10 and I hope the next version of Windows as advertised would make it more useful and functional. The keyboard is noticeably delightful to use and the touchpad also works well. As is the norm for the ThinkPad line of laptops there is a red button at the centre of the keyboard that controls the mouse and it is quite an experience to use the mouse with it. Theres a lot to like about the HP 25Xih, though I do have a couple of issues with it, with one in particular enough to give the monitor a pass. While a high refresh rate is critical for performance gaming, its also a great benefit for virtually any computing task. Since Ive been spoiled with 120Hz displays, Ill admit its hard for me to downgrade to 60Hz even for simple tasks like web browsing, where its like looking at a slideshow as I move the mouse cursor around, drag a window, or do basically anything. Being a FreeSync monitor, one thing that has to be fiddled with is the response times which GSync monitors handle automatically so as to avoid ghosting problems endemic with IPS displays. The low response time, adaptive sync provided by FreeSync, and especially the 144Hz refresh rate, combined with a decent GPU, really lent for a smooth gaming experience in my testing. The picture quality is better than I expected for an entrylevel monitor with matte finish. Theres great contrast with the darks actually being dark, lights being bright thanks to the high nit rating, and the colors are quite vivid. The display performed quite well on gradient tests, showing minimal banding. I didnt have any issues with backlight bleedthrough and didnt have any dead pixels. The side and top bezels are quite thin, allowing for decent multimonitoring if desired. I really like how adjustable the included stand is, allowing for height and tilt adjustments, as well as rotation for portrait alignment. It is a tad wiggly though. What I really dont like, however, is the downwardfacingand gravityalignedinput ports. This makes plugging things in much more a pain in the rear than it should be, and also greatly increases the chance of accidentally unplugging something. Case in point, the power cable slid out as I was casually adjusting the monitors placement on my desk. The OnScreen Display OSD is quite flexible and has some nice features. It has the obligatory gamers crosshair where the color can be adjusted, and even multiple overlays mixed and matched among dot, crosshair, sidebars, and circle. It also has a framerate overlay feature that has configurable color and the corner position can be selected. Unfortunately, the size cant be adjusted for either the crosshair or FPS overlays which is unfortunate because they are both unusually large. The power indicator light can be turned off. I like how the physical buttons are configurable, providing quick access to features such as the crosshair and framerate overlays, switching input sources, or adjusting brightness and color, which saves time that would otherwise be spent navigating through menus. Considering how well this monitor performed in my gaming testing and the features provided for the price point, I would normally be happy to recommend it to those who dont mind the relatively small size, but I did run into an unfortunate snag with the autosleep mode. When the monitor stops receiving input for a while it goes into sleep mode and turns off the backlight as it should. But sometime later, for some unknown reason, the monitor wakes up and remains at a backlit black screen that is until I reawaken the input signal source. Every morning during my testing Id wake up to this monitor in this state. Of the well over a dozen computer monitors and displays in my room, this is the only unit with which Ive experienced this problem. I wish this were an issue I could simply ignore, but as someone who has experienced LCD backlight burnout on monitors with working autosleep functions, I see this as a major problem for longevity. During the prohibitively short timeframe I was given for testing before having to write my review, I wasnt able to find a solution other than manually turning the display off. Its possible that Im an outlier and that most users wont experience this issue, but its enough for me to avoid recommending this monitor at this time.

My first ThinkPad came with Windows 95, and my first USB port, although Win95 had no native support and the USB was a curiosity that never worked well. When I saw Ubuntu installed, I went all in. I installed Psensor, and it sure runs cool. All the data, including the fans I cant hear, are there. Sound is good to great. Usually, I brown out the screen with Night Light, but this screen is somehow just not annoying, but beautiful. With any computer, the important things are the screen, the keyboard, and the pointing device, which is devices with the ThinkPad. My purpose, and I am retired, is authoring. Im getting an AX WiFi router soon, but the 2X2 802.11ac is flawless. The keyboard is GLORIOUS. The CPU is waiting for me to hit a key, but I got the RAM in case I play with Oracle Virtual VM, and other things, and I can pass on the right. I was actually toying with the idea of a Chromebook, but you get what you pay for, if you shop carefully. Finger scanner works. Ive put the mechanical shutter over the camera, so Im completely satisfied and done with that. At 14 inches, the purpose of 1080p escapes me. The LED keyboard sure comes in handle, because like the Fn key is where my favorite Ctrl key usually is. Still, the arrow and PgUp and PgDn are good, and the QWERTY keys are perfect. My prior ThinkPads had long lives and my only complaint is that when I die, my kids will be fighting over this one. The keyboard feels like a desktop, and the 2.5 lbs. weight feels like nothing. I read that while the SSD is replaceable, but I also read just get the SSD size you want Ive been in laptops and even a tablet, and I have the pry tools, but I will use a professional if I ever replace the battery. If I play VLC, a video, and Files is full size, and then close VLC, Files is askew in the screen, probably because of the 16 x 10 aspect, instead of the usual 16 x 9, but thats the first glitch I found. I LOVE the 16 x 10
