I bought this to replace a wonderful HP2475w. That older monitor came with a solid base that was well designed. But just looking at the narrow stem of the z27n's stand as it came out of the box, I knew that I should hang on to the 2475w's base. The picture offered by the z27n meets my expectations, but the flimsy stand caused it to jiggle frequently when I typed at my keyboard. Sure enough, after putting up with intermittent wiggling for way too long, I finally mounted the z27n on the older monitor's stand. Problem solved.

Now to cover the monitor...The build quality and clarity on this monitor is remarkable. It truly defines a (semi-)professional drafting, photo editing, you-name-it-it-does-it monitor. The second screen had a black blob in the bottom right corner. This wasn't exactly a dead pixel, but more likely contamination. No contamination is allowed under HP policy. I requested a third monitor from B&H, but this time holding the second monitor just in case. I mean, what are the chances 3 of HP's higher quality monitors arrive defective? The third monitor arrived with a bright red stuck pixel near the right hand side of the screen and additionally contamination near the top left.I'm keeping the second screen because the contamination is isolated out of view and I'm tired of the back-and-forth nonsense. I am definitely not satisfied with the outcome, but I need a monitor. I will never purchase a display from HP again. I will purchase from B&H in the future though.

EDIT: I switched to thundbolt 3 USB-C cable instead of using the HDMI to USB-C converter. That's fixed the flickering issue. Original Review, 3 stars: I'm using this monitor for my work setup at home. The monitor is beautiful, and I'm a fan of the stand. What is infuriating, though, is the fact that the monitor will flicker on and off randomly. It just goes to black or grey at unexpected times. I've tried using different HDMI to USB-C adaptors and also different HDMI cables. My laptop doesn't do this with other monitors. So it must be because of the HP Monitor. For something so expensive, it's very frustrating.

Monitor image is good, and monitor is easy to set-up and to use. Also great that it has a variety of connecting points, and comes with cables for two of them. I that I spent hours trying to buy a similar monitor from Dell, but their customer support is so bad that I gave up. Also tried to purchase this HP monitor directly from HP, but was unable to do so. Next time I will go straight to B&H, where the phone was answered immediately, and by someone who was very knowledgeable and helpful (unlike the Dell and HP representatives with whom I was able, after long waits, to speak).

The bezel is narrow, so I can place these side by side without an ugly black bar down the middle. The monitors are large, so I angled them in slightly for a more natural viewing angle. The resolution is ideally suited to MacBook Pro retina displays (4K isn’t an integer ratio and would have caused some scaling artifacts), and the USB-C inputs save me from having to pay Apple any more money for adapters. I’m very happy with the result. One word of caution, buy the quality USB-C to USB-C cables from Monoprice (100W, 20Gbps thunderbolt 3 USB-C). The monitor has an excellent array of ports; I was able to get a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable to connect my work HP laptop and it works perfectly and looks fantastic. The fact that is it height and tilt adjustable is excellent. The bad: the stand is solid, but the display wobbles when I'm typing. I have the monitor up on a stand that is quite stable; when my Dell monitor was on the stand, there was no wobble. I think it's because the HP has a lighter/thinner chassis. You can also make the HP display wobble by tapping it on the side - might be a side effect of them giving it a portrait option. I'd prefer a zero-wobble design to a portrait monitor. This isn't a deal-breaker, but it is something to be aware of. The other thing HP did is put the hole for cable routing quite low, so if you have the monitor more than halfway up the adjustable rail, you’ll see the cables. The ugly: check yours for dead pixels (search for web sites that will display a full screen block of colour), and if there's even one, send it back. HP has to learn that customers won't accept their poor quality control. I’m glad Home Essentials Direct has such a great return policy.
Edit: I just received my new laptops (one from work and my new MacBook Pro M1 Pro) and the screen DOES CHARGE them both! It was a great surprise for me to notice that USB- C charging was working. Then charge is slow but hey, at least I can work a whole day without the need to use the external chargers.The screen is well built and not too pricy. The color accuracy is very good (that was what I was looking for primarily) and the size is just what I needed.Nevertheless there are some downsides that HP should have addressed already:- the screen is provided with an European power cable, not a Swiss one. And I've been given a small power cable which doesn't fit with the screen...- The cables provided with the screen are Display Port and USB-A to USB-C..?! This is, by far, the BEST monitor I have ever used, especially for what I paid for it. Calibrated at the factory by HP (I use the Neutral Color setting - Looks very natural), plenty of connectors, including the newer USB-C, and it'll be my monitor for many years to come. The 27" screen is perfect for my needs, and many times I will work with 2 or even 3 windows open, which makes for an awesome working experience. Everyone seems to get hyped up about 4K screens, which cost a lot more, and I guess they have a place, in some circumstances; but 1440p is plenty for most folks' needs.
