I received mine with the Summit Stuff Pocket. I am honestly just as excited about the stuff pocket as I am the bag. This review is not about using it just first impressions from someone who has never had a Dyneema pack. Looks and feels great so far. I got it to fold up and put in my larger pack. It seems like an all purpose bag that has multiple functions and won't hold dirt, very clean. The Summit pocket can be attached to a larger pack no problem if it has loops or a way to attach it.

This bag is the best designed, lightweight day pack on the market - that is if you’re an ultralight adventurer. I’ve taken this bag with me everywhere in the west. I usually push the pace on outings and pack minimally so this bag pairs well with this type of traveling. For anyone who is used to more “over built” bags like Osprey or Deuter, I probably wouldn’t recommend this as there’s no zippers or pockets and it encourages you to travel light and fast. I use a hydro pack with this and it works well but you have to place the nipple of the hose just right on the shoulder strap otherwise it’ll bounce around. The fit is excellent, no hot spots or rubbing. The material is incredibly durable as it was barely phased by the sandstone in Southern Utah. It’s also waterproof ... MoreThis bag is the best designed, lightweight day pack on the market - that is if you’re an ultralight adventurer. I’ve taken this bag with me everywhere in the west. I've used this pack many times. It's good. The one problem is how the shoulder straps attach to the bottom panel. The straps pull the panel up so that it folds over to create a lateral crease that sits across my lower back. It's not uncomfortable but it shouldn't be there and this ought to have been worked out at the design prototyping stage. The bottom of the bag should be more of a curved teardrop shape to avoid this crease. Perhaps the pack could also be just that little bit longer.

I have been using this backpack for hiking and traveling around. It has huge internal volume more than I expected. I found it a little annoying when it's not half-packed which makes it's not full contacted with your back, but it's not a huge deal. Since it comes in one-size, this might not be ideal for those who have a long vertebrae because the backpack will sit higher toward your middle back rather than the bottom. I wish they made an external part for water bottle. I did buy an additional pocket attached to the backpack and it was super useful. I use it to keep stuff that I will use often since opening and closing the roll top might take time.
This little pack is tough. I wanted a lighter pack for day hikes and Canyoneering (which is notoriously rough on gear). It also requires carrying a lot of gear so the lighter the better. So far I’ve taken it in two water canyons. My gear stayed almost completely dry even after multiple swims and waterfall rappels. I wasn’t expecting it to be totally water tight but this was a great test of water resistance. I will be bringing in canyons probably until it disintegrates, which I hope is a long while. 4 stars because it has essentially no padding, something I knew when I bought it.
It's very tough, weather resistant and extremely light. I thought what I was looking for was straightforward. It's taken years to find this pack. It's a great everyday day pack, if you don't need pockets. There are daisy chains where pockets certain can be added though. Also it rolls up to almost nothing for stowing in a larger bag. I plan to use with pods to provide a bit of structure for multi-day hikes using hostels. I highly recommend it.
The summit packs is definitely one of my favourite packs from Hyperlite. I predominantly use this pack for trail runs where I need to bring overnight gear for 1-2 nights. The pack has zero padding or frame but a sleeping pad along the back panel adds structure and padding. I can fit my quilt, bivy or mid, tuna can stove with some food, rain gear, down jacket and my mirrorless with an ultrawide inside the pack and the tripod straps externally with the daisy chains. It doesn’t get any lighter than this! The sternum and waist straps prevent the pack bouncing around too much and it sits higher on your back like a running vest. Love it
Three weeks after it arrived, I finally got to use my summit pack on a long scramble in the Olympics - 22 miles over 14 hours at 6,200' gain. Summit of Mount Henderson. I've been waiting for a chance to use it. I got the stuff pocket with it. I like the size and weight and happy with how it carries. It might be a bit small for my shoulders, but I have found all my HMG packs a bit narrow, however all packs have compromises and I generally love the HMG packs. While the waist strap works, it's not ideal. I think the minimalist focus was taken too far in this area. I like having snacks and some essentials at the ready so used my Versa fanny pack. I would have preferred waist straps the size of the Versa. It would be less irritating and possibly the Versa could be ... MoreThree weeks after it arrived, I finally got to use my summit pack on a long scramble in the Olympics - 22 miles over 14 hours at 6,200' gain. I would have preferred waist straps the size of the Versa. It would be less irritating and possibly the Versa could be adapted as the hip belt. Wearing a fanny pack and pack is not the best combo when needing to scramble where one is climbing/scrambling on rocks, scrunching down, etc. I really like all the daisy chains. I also wish it would have come with bungie straps like my Prism for holding an ice ax handle etc. I can add that feature, but would have been a nice addition. I'd have given it 5 stars if the hip belt was better. Sacrifice a few ounces for comfort would be my suggestion. For tomorrow's scramble I've placed the Versa on the narrow straps. I feel like I should be a HMG product tester. :) Hyperlight should also make a helmet holder similar to those made by Blue Ice.
After 6 year I've dragging it evry day, and in most of my trails, the idea of this pack is just amazing : an ultra light and simple pack strengthly build. But I goint tout be fussy :-The steech to attach the chemeney buckles has rip the fabric, this hole is strutural not accidental, even if I tape it the hole get back again and again, making the pack permeable.-The fabric resisting well, but after few year, the inside layer delaminate, that making the permable again and hard to clean due to the dyneema fiber release. I think it will not last longer.-The fabric drastically reduced due to all the folds : my bagpack comme from 30l to 21l !!this is a bigger problem on the shoulder strap : they bicamme smaller and smaller in width until it shear the shoulder. I LOVE this pack and think it has a great, simple design (and monster-strong materials). But I had to return the first I received because it was poorly sewn ... the pack straps were stitched on the bag very crooked/cockeyed. Backcountry was awesome in taking the return and sending a new one to me even before they got the original back--I got great customer service. Unfortunately the second pack was also not perfect--more of the same skewed tailoring in the straps, though not as bad as the first. I'm keeping this one, because it's good enough and I feel somewhat uncomfortable with the level of carbon impact of shipping back-and-forth multiple times for a simple backpack, and also I'm trying to be less uptight about details. BUT: it's a $200 daypack and the fact that ... MoreI LOVE this pack and think it has a great, simple design (and monster-strong materials). Wasn't going to post a negative review if it was a one-off problem ...
