I purchased this as an inexpensive classical that I could bring with me when I travel without having to worry about damage. I selected this model in particular because of the mahogany back which really adds to the bass and low-end. The action is nice and tight, the cutaway for easy playing, and the guitar is surprisingly heavier than other guitars in its price range. I build guitars for a hobby. Although I have yet to tackle any acoustic, I already know the kits could run $400. I decided to restart lessons after a year off and never playing. The classical type appealed because of the nylon strings that are a little easier on fingers. When I received this Ibanez I was literally shocked how beautiful it was and how well made. The sound was excellent and I still have no clue how anyone can make a guitar this nice for the price I paid. DCC

I have had this guitar for some time now and I still play it just about every day . The sound is very rich and even for an instrument of these dimensions . Too bad the tuners are so awful . I've tried several types of lube but they are still creaky like crazy . Some superficial cheesyNess is actually a bit charming (sticker resembling inlay on the bridge ) but doesn't affect playability or sound . Only problem aside from tuners is the battery doesn't shut off when unplugged . I had to remove the battery clip when not using it -until I finally lost track of it . So now it's exclusively acoustic . However mine is quite a few years old they may have fixed this problem .

I still have my first guitar that was purchased by my parents in 1954. As I play for my own pleasure and an occasional recital, I have found much satisfaction with this product.My son gave it to me 2 years ago for a birthday present. This instrument "fits" me perfectly. The neck is of perfect dimension for my left hand and fingers. As I transitioned from my first guitar to this one, I found it to be so comfortable. As I do not use much, if any, amplification, it is nice for large rooms like church buildings or recitals. The most expensive is not necessarily the best. At home, this Ibanez is the one that was always out of the case on a stand, ready to pick up whenever. So it became comfortable, but then noticeably reliable. The tuners (particularly the low E) have withstood routine changes to drop D a few times while playing, without obvious sign of wear. OK seriously I am a working musician and this guitar is well worth the money , no it isn't a high end guitar but it is very well worth the money. I am so tired of these negative minor complaints people have. OH wait you bought it on line and never actually played one well there in lies the issue. You can play two guitars made the same day at the same facility and they feel and sound completely different as any true musician would know. Why would you buy a guitar that you replace every major part on and seem to hate the wood it's made from ? Try playing one before you buy one pretty simple , yes there will be variations but then people won't have to listen to others whine. As far as this guitar I have been playing 44 years and it is well worth the money ...sounds ... I could not be happier or more surprised at the construction quality, finish and sound. It came with D. Addario EXP strings laid over a IvoreXII nut and saddle which produced a nice warm tone. In fact, I could still hear the sustain after I put it away in my Humi-case. Apparently, the top is spruce, but it is the most beautifully patterned spruce I have ever seen. Color of a medium dark honey. I have since replaced the nut and saddle with my handmade Wyoming Buffalo bone nut and saddle and now it sparkels like a very high end guitar. Seriously, you will be pleased with the Ivorex, but bone transforms this guitar, head and shoulders above the crowd. No skin/finger snagging as you work up and down the fingerboard. It takes patience changing the classical strings but a tiny pamphlet is included, illustrating how to change and 'secure' the strings. I purchased mine in '05 and I'm not surprised to see this at a 'Top Rated' status. It's very light weight adding comfort whether lap playing or standing. The open head stock is very attractive and stays in tune just fine. The neck is wide & flat, typical for a classical guitar but still comfortable to play. Purchased as a practice nylon (dark violin burst finish), however I have found this guitar to be the classical / acoustic / electric hybrid that fills so many sound requirements it has become the 'go to' guitar in our studio. Unplugged, the nylon sound is fine, however not as loud as a full size. When played as acoustic, the softer tone is a good contrast to a steel string. When plugged in, you have an electric hollow body with a true vintage sound, with some eq tweaking you can get an awesome high gain to play the hardest rock. The guitar comes nicely set out of the box, but to make it more like an electric action, I lowered the nut slots.
Overall:This was my first time ordering from zZounds. I wanted a cheap nylon string to play around the house and Ibanez makes decent low cost guitars. The guitar showed up and the box looked to be opened previously, the tape was cut. I immediate noticed the fretboard was extremely dry, to the point that the radius of the fretboard was concave, not flat, it had cracks, and all of the fret ends on low E side and high E side were sticking way out. I boxed it right back up and sent it back the next day. I'm no stranger to working on guitars but this was not worth the effort. Too bad, the guitar itself sounded decent but I highly suspect this guitar was stored in a poor environment hence why the fretboard was severely dried out and the radius of the board literally ...
