(74 reviews)

The MerinoLoft Jacket is the perfect insulating layer for skiing or hiking in cold conditions thanks to icebreaker’s innovative MerinoLoft insulation—a natural and cruelty-free insulation that harnesses the natural benefits of merino wool. The jacket’s woven cotton shell features a durable, PFC-free water-repellent finish to shed moisture, while the zoned insulation provides the optimal balance of warmth and breathability. The merino lining helps regulate body temperature and resist odors. Offset shoulder seams reduce friction and front hand pockets secure small essentials. Three layers of comfort in a lightweight layer, icebreaker MerinoLoft has a durable, water-repellent shell filled with natural merino-fiber batting, with a super-soft lining in 100% merino. Inspired by nature, icebreaker harnesses the performance qualities of natural fibers to offer an alternative to clothing based on petrochemical synthetics.

I have the cherry colour of this jacket from last winter in size small, which was perfect for me then, but I've gained weight, and even though I still wear the small, and can zip it up, I ordered this pink one in a medium for a bit of wiggle room, and so that I can wear it over more than a base layer. I always go by the size charts, and have a lot of IB layers and these 2 jackets, and the white coat that is no longer available, and I've never had to exchange sizes. I have no complaints about this jacket. It's super light, but surprisingly warm. I love this pink shade!

Back is too tight. Outer fabric feels like paper bag

What's happening with Icebreaker in the last few years? This jacket looks great on the pictures and I loved the loose fit. I had the slim fit version 4ish years ago and I felt it was too tight, so I thought this would be great. When I tried it on, I found it hard to bring my arms to the front before it felt very tight at the back. I don't think I can fit a thick layer underneath. Also the outer fabric feels like paper bag, not nice and soft. Too expensive for this quality.

Comfy, warm and a great price

I purchased this jacket at a great sale price and am so glad I did. I already had the long version of this jacket, which feels like a pillow (in the best way)! This jacket ran slightly smaller, so I sized up. It's a great jacket to keep you warm and cozy, and it's lightweight so easy to bring with you just in case. Love ice breaker and the materials they use.

Great craftsmanship
2 February 2023

This is a great and beautiful made jacket. I am a true icebreaker XL. (Hourglass shaped) This jacket though, just as the hard shell I bought are really on the snug side , especialy on the hip and bum area. Also the arms are a bit snug. no room for a sweater, just a shirt. I had never had this problem with icebreaker before. The collingwood 2 is made a bit romier, and this one a little smaller then the normal XL. Why?? The jacket itself is made beautiful. Great materials. But absolutely no stretch whatsoever in the fabric. It could also do with an extra inch or 2 in length.

Like it more than I expected
21 February 2023

I have the long version in white, which has a hood. I got this in small, which is the size I always get in IB. The colour is a nice cool deep pink/raspberry, so that works for my complexion. I'm about 5'4.5" and 120 lbs. I've only worn it twice, the first time I got a 1" grease stain right on the front, but it came out with spot cleaning using dish detergent. It did not bleach/change the fabric. This coat is warm and layers well over a wool base layer and wool sweater when needed.

Love Love Love
16 March 2023

This red jacket is a delightful cherry/raspberry colour. It is surprisingly warm thanks to the merino wool. I like that it is sustainable. Fit is equivalent to IceBreaker's relaxed fit. I am 5"2" and 110lbs and the XS is roomy to fix a bulky sweater underneath. It has ties at the bottom to make it snugger and elastic cuffs that can be folded under for petite ladies.

Love the color!
27 February 2023

I have to echo Hike1Ride's review. I wasn't sure about the fit.The jacket fits perfectly through the shoulders and chest but the flare at the bottom of the jacket is too big. There is a cinch along the edge to tighten the flare/bottom edge but it doesn't work well. The sleeve openings are rather large and cold air strikes the wrist.I wore the jacket in -6C weather ( -14 with the wind chill) and it was fairly warm but not as warm as my other jacket. My plan was to wear this for hiking/ walking the dog and nature photography but I will use it more for an "about the town" jacket and short winter walks.

Not up to IB standards
30 December 2023

This is becoming typical IB but the zipper just does not want to zip up! Needs repeated, tiring attempts! Like the other reviews, it is very boxy around the hips which lets in cold air. The shoulders fit fine but the bottom is made for large, wide hips. I like the color and the idea, but overall a disappointment.

This jacket grows on you
21 February 2023

When I received this jacket and tried it on, I wasn't sure about it. It was fine in the shoulders as I had ordered a size Large so that I could fit sweater layers underneath, but it was loose at the hem. After going for a hike, I must say that I am pleased with it. It was warm and totally breathable which made it really comfortable to exercise in. The flared hem gave freedom of movement on the uphill climb. I love the concept of a totally biodegradable jacket, but the cotton outer shell was a little noisy. I have a feeling that will soften up with time resolving the noise. It felt wonderful under my rainproof jacket. I look forward to including this jacket in my summer high mountain hiking plans.

Wonderfully warm and light, but rather loose?
28 November 2022

The jacket is wonderfully warm and light. I love wearing it. It's not a 5 star because the fit is not perfect. I'm a true Icebreaker S, but this jacket feels perfect on the shoulders but rather loose around the waist (looser than on the model in the pic); the sleeves are rather long (or perhaps my arms are short?). I have only worn this around town, but will soon take it hiking and skiing and will update the review. But when it comes to skiing, where's the pocket for the ski pass?
