We have owned this timer for a couple years and love it. After somehow wearing out our ThermoKing timer, and then another cheap timer from a target store, we saw the Fantast timer at Ikea and decided to try it. I'd say it's pretty comparable to ThermoKing and at a much better price. We use it regularly as a timer and occasionally as a thermometer. Love that it has a magnet so we can keep it handy.

I have used this product for years and was very satisfied but the unit failed when I used it for barbecuing. Apparently if you leave the thermocouple under the cover of the gas grill to get a constant measure of the meat temperature, the thermocouple will fail with a Hi Temp. At this point the only use is timer since there is nothing wrong with the read out. I don't believe the thermocouples are sold separately.

Have purchased several of these electronic thermometers. Not advisable for commercial use as they are not built tough.Price is boss. Throw away when breaks.

Would have given it 5* but, if only I could set the temperature at 82 for start up. It starts up on 58? I think. So I always have to change it. Other than that fantastic. Loud beep on reaching temperature or time on timer. Loved it so much bought one for my mum.
I've had this unit for several years and use it fairly often. I like that it's easy to use, magnetic, and works in my oven or my grill. However, after several years of use, it is no longer working properly. It seems that either the cable or the port where the cable plugs in has worn out. I have to wiggle it around , unplugging it and plugging it back in, to get it to read the temp. So be gentle with the cable portion of the unit, and don't expect it to last more than a few years.
Clear display and accurate readings, however the cable stopped working after 6 months (it's very thin and although metal braided, it kinks easily). It has a magnet at the back but that came unstuck within days. There's better out there for half the price.
Works really well as a good kitchen timer. Easy to set and looks sharp on my fridge. As for the thermometer feature, its simple to set a goal temp but its a bit on the slow side to calculate the temperature. Especially at higher temps its takes a long time to calculate. Also the price is a bit high for what its worth. Overall I still recommend this product.
I initially bought this thinking I'd use it primarily as a meat/pastry thermometer, but I've actually come to use it every day. It also has a simple and intuitive timer that I now use on a daily basis in my kitchen. It has a nice magnetic back that I use to keep it stuck to my fridge. I'd initially bought a meat thermometer with alarm just like this one a few years ago, but it died within a year, with barely any use. This one feels a lot more solid, even though it's mostly made of plastic and is really simple to use. No frills. Does what it is meant to do, be a simple timer and a meat thermometer.Note: The minutes part of the timer goes up to 99, and only goes forwards, so if you cross the number of minutes you're setting by accident, you'll have to turn it off, ... MoreI initially bought this thinking I'd use it primarily as a meat/pastry thermometer, but I've actually come to use it every day. I've now gotten used to the system, so it isn't a problem to me anymore.
I have used this thermometer so many times, it has paid for itself many times over. Lots of foods these days say to heat the item to an internal heat of 165º or more, and this does all the work for you. Your item gets up to the temp you set (ºC or F), and then it sounds an alarm you can't ignore. It also can simply act as a timer. The thermometer cord is metal-encased and works just fine in your oven (the cord is nice & long so it can reach your countertop). I have also used it when heating up milk for yogurt, so it doesn't boil over. Bought one for my niece, who also loves cooking! (If I could change one thing, I'd add a setting so that it beeps when the temperature *drops* to a set number. This would be handy for the second phase of yogurt-making.)
Wow, who knew cooking meat could be so easy! I cooked a beautiful prime rib roast for the holiday and used this thermometer for the first time. It was spot on, notified me when my meat reached 125. This is a real value.Disclosure, I work for IKEA.
